I didn't know were to post this. So I'm posting it here. I'm a former Star Trek Bridge and the modding community on it was massive, And I found an interesting ship. That i think would be a great addition to star trek online if you can get the permissions and details from the person who made the ship

here is a screenshot of it http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/screenshots/File/73486/1

and here is the link that leads you to the person who made the mod/ship/file http://bridgecommander.filefront.com/file/USS_Voyager_A;73486

this ship he declared the voyager a and since gene died before that could ever happen. i think it would be a great addition to star trek in general is a very amazing ship. and I personally think it would be great to add to the game...

what does everyone else think about this? lets get some feedback going on this xD
They say there's no such place... as Paradise. Even if you search to the ends of the Earth, there's nothing there. No matter how far you walk, it's always the same road. It just goes on and on. But, in spite of that... Why am I so driven to find it? A voice calls to me... It says, "Search for Paradise."

Of cause they can... The Vesta has proved that... However...

If the author will not allow it, THEN they cant use it.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

They need to go through CBS, and get some lawyers, and find the guy, then the guy would need to give up his rights to the ship to CBS, who would then own the rights, who would then give it to Cryptic.

Wasn't the Vesta taken directly from the books? My understanding was that it didn't appear in any other title, which makes it considerably different than using art assets from an existing video game, even if they are fan-produced.

Vesta was not a simple thing, and took a long time...and it's not as simple as the guy saying yes, if it was then we would live in a almost perfect society :D

BC mods are not official, and if CBS wanted to they could sue, but CBS has never been that way when it comes to Trek, if they did there would be no fan fiction Star trek on the internet.

As long as no one profits from Trek CBS is very nice about it.

    You're citing a fan-made mod, not a licensed use. There's a massive difference.

If we lived in a world without Lawyers, and copyrights, and licenses...then yes, but that kind of world only exists in Star Trek....the irony:cool:

That's why Cryptic has a team of guys who make ships....most ships in game Cryptic made which is why they are in the game.

I never said it was a simple process... But in the end, it's really just a matter of getting the ball rolling, and convince the guy who owns the design to let them use it.

I would for my own ship, or any of the stations/ships my crew designed when we were modding, but cryptic generally isn't interested.

Till we agreed with that line from Shakespeare: "Kill all the lawyers" Why waste money on lawyers.

Agreed, hell, if I had a ship design of my own and Cryptic offered to put it into the game, I'd jump at that offer, and I'd even see if they could cut me some of the sells from it if they put it into the C-Store. Just because it's fan made doesn't mean it's off limits, hell, having fan made content added to the game, adds to the game and makes it feel more fan driven.

But hey if anyone is insisting that fan made content is off limits to Cryptic, then place, find me an official statement stating they can, and will not use fan made ships, and a statement explaining me the Vista class and Enterprise F designs.

Hi, just like to point out that "argument" should not be the point of this thread.

Your opinion that this would be nice to add to the game is just as valid as the opinion that it will never happen, except that the latter has a great deal of precedent.

Discuss, don't argue. Both points have been made and don't need to be rehashed again.

Not that I would do it because I don't own the IP and am not that sort of fan who thinks he does in some way... But I wouldn't do it unless they offered me the proper pay rate for a ship designer because I'm not dumb enough to work for free to provide something a company is going to make some cash from.

Yeah, everyone has their own opinion on how to do things.
