My main problem with beleive Dan this time around is how the definition of content changes in meaning to suit their needs. I don't consider reputation, fleet, and other forms of grind content.---Story based content is what the KDF needs! Anything less than that is just disappointment in my eyes.
That's what's up. I don't doubt that the dev team has increased in size / effectiveness that they CAN do a lot to improve the KDF. For me it's a matter of "Will they" and "How"
The problem with KDF isn't content. Seriously, the KDF missions are ten times more fun and role-accurate than the dumb federation ones.
What KDF lacks is the ability to BE klingon. Right now the whole faction is just a 'lite' version of the Federation.
THIS TOO
The nature of the game-being more combat-driven, not having the exploration system to really "feel Trek" (Fed Trek) makes the game really lend itself more to a KDF 'feel' (less exploration-driven, more combat-centered)
But, the dev team hasn't really capitalized on that, IMO (by fleshing out the KDF)
What KDF players have wanted, since the go, has been:
-KDF exclusive Episodes
-Storyline content that explains why Orions, Ferasans, Letheans, etc. are w/the Empire
-Aesthetics that fit the KDF (First City hit the nail on the head in that department, as did the species-specific ships)
Reasonably, rep / fleet grind stuff will come too, as it should, but if that's the whole focus of KDF development KDF'ers won't 'feel the love' and won't play it as often-or, gripe about it when we have to.
Then we're stuck back at square one- "KDF won't play what we DO develop for them, so why develop anything?" And that's my main concern. But the dev team has heard this stuff long enough to know what we want.
Also, how cool would KDF rep systems be if they started off at level one, and were for every species in the Empire?
Orion, Lethean, Gorn, Ferasan, Nausicaan, and Joined Trill rep each with their own social zones, missions, (storyline & otherwise) rewards (costumes, ships, social items, pets, etc.)
I did and like other posters you where fast to critisize as a response. Such distrust is fine given past experiences but the attacks against the Devs is not helping us.
Better to let the feds be the whiny faction from now on while we KDF become the more stoic faction. Its not like the Devs are clueless to how we feel.
I don't consider reputation, fleet, and other forms of grind content.
So basically you paid to be a career officer in a genre of game you can't stand? Well done.
I mean it's a MMO. What exactly were you expecting.
I'm also baffled in general by how many people seem to really want more story missions. There are 50 missions on the foundry probably better than the majority of story missions in this game. Do people just enjoy really bad voice acting that much?

Cryptic set a precedent in this game early on, by releasing content in the form of story missions at a very high rate. When the game transitioned from pay to play to free to play the story content release has ground to a halt. People want what we had back in the day where we got a new featured series on a regular basis. With weekly episode releases that felt like the Star Trek we remember watching on TV.
The argument that this is an MMO and the players should expect to not get new story missions on a regular basis doesn't go over well, considering a large portion of the community of people that play this game are Star Trek fans not MMO gamers. Those people came to play this game because it is almost the only form of Trek available at the moment.
As for foundry missions being better than story missions, That may be true but it doesn't do anything to help the problem of giving the Klingon Faction a full level 1 through 50 experience equal to the Federation.

I have said this before, but as people keep using the foundry excuse, I am going to repeat myself.
When you sign up for a game, whether pay to play, or F2P, there is an expectation. The Develops give you content, you play, and (in F2P too) if you like what you get, you support the game with money.
The Foundry, while great, and I have no doubt there are some awesome missions there, Is little more then an escape goat, players and cryptic can use to excuse their own lack of providing what is there responsibility as a game company to produce content.
Now I understand development take time. And I understand resources in a company as small as cryptic are limited. So priorities are sometimes shuffled to benefit the largest playerbase. I am ok with that, I except that as part of the industry. What I am not willing to except is the lame excuse that there are UGC mission so Cryptic need not bother creating content that was essentially promised when the game was started or when I signed up for it.
Honestly, when it comes to content and UGC stuff, grind etc. I just take a step back and shake my head at how much the ball was kind of dropped from the beginning not just with the KDF but with the whole premise of the game. I mean this was a golden opportunity to do something interesting and unique to the MMO genre.
We all know Star Trek fans are a unique and numerable group of people, and when this thing released (early and well before it should have IMO) there hadn't been a series on the air for what? Five years? With as rabid and dedicated a fan base as Trek has that was the shot they missed to release a game that could've been a new "series" for Star Trek that gave a Trek fan the unique position to actually be part of it all. I'd pay a sub even still for that kind of experience.
The story had such a good premise to begin with too, following the Fed missions, the state of the galaxy it was like DS9 all over again with different factions playing the roles. Instead here we sit almost three years into the game and its STILL Year One in the story. Virtually nothing has been added in that time except busy work, meaningless grind, and the ability to "do it yourself" with Foundry. Just unfortunate all the way around because the potential was there for unique experiences between factions. Why don't the KDF focus on their witch hunt for Undine infiltrators? An undertaking like that could have a task force, and all kinds of war mongering/aggressive infiltration missions as the KDF scoured both the Empire and other powers for the lurking infiltrators. The Fed story I think was great as is, set the stage for the Undine to unravel and gave us a peek at the real Big Bad but Klingons are nothing if not single minded in certain pursuits.
Just a shame nothing was ever done to follow that and more attention hasn't been given to pushing forward galactic events than giving us busy work.
IMO, the #1 problem that has sabotaged the KDF from the beginning is that you have to level up as a Fed first.
The ONLY way that could have worked well is if KDF faction was better/exclusive to drive people to put up with the hurdle and overcome the natural inclination not to 'abandon' what you started with -- that is, even if the content were even, that wouldn't have worked well. And, well, it isn't.

Ok, ok, I started this thread, time to chime back in!

For any Dev's that read this..
There are some hints in the posts of this thread... If you want to get the KDF players less hostile.. (and yes, it has toned down in recent months..mostly because far to many old guard posters ars, and have just given up and gone somewhere else to play)
Recommended: Screen shots, tweet leaks.. TALK TO US! Get into the KDF forums and mend some fences. Show us that there is some real care and concern. Get a DIALOG going with your KDF player base.
We care, or we wouldn't still be here after 3 years..PROVE to us its not hype and as has been said, cheap rotgut, and polio infected blankets etc..
For those of you more recent to the forums, I am one of the old guard. When the decision was made to merge the STO forums into the perfect world forums, and force account merges a bunch of wed old guard KDF types basicly got well... screwed. Some posters didn't have any issues, but many of us did. If you want to read some examples of hull chewing vituberance do a forum search for posts by the user "Khemaraa_Iron_Hand_KBF"
which was my old forum name/handle/login. I have been around much like the inestimable "Roach" since the before the game launched and was dedicated since day one to being a Klingon faction player. At one point I deleted all of my Federation characters during one of the earlier KDF "Protests" at the time that Daniel STahl made a very unwise, unkind, and terrible foot in mouth statement about KDF players only making up 18% of the player base so what was the point of doing development.
To say the we the KDF focused players were less then...ummm.. "pleased" with the statement of the EP at time would be a gargantuan understatement. It was pretty obvious to us at the time that if there had been more KDF content there would have been a great many more KDF players. I know I watched my own fleet esentially shed 3 out of every 4 players over the course of a year. Most of the rest of the KDF player fleets didn't fare to much better. When PvP play was opened to same faction PvP it seriously hurt KDF numbers (at the time PvP made up pretty much all of the draw to KDF if you wern't alreay a faction fan from before launch)
To put it in a nutshell, most of the cause of KDF faction numbers being low lay with decisions made by Cryptic studios. And a year plus ago we KDF fan made a very strong point to remind the studio of where the cause lay. For the record no developer or officer of Cryptic has ever maned up and said "yes, it is our fault" accept for one.. and he shortly there after left the employ of Cryptic. No reasons were ever stated publicly, though a few rumors have floated around from time to time.
SO today the Klingon empire is essentially have a faction compared to the federation side.
Those of us still hanging in here are relitivly certain that once the non existant core KDF content is finally added to the game that KDF numbers will start climbing..fairly rapidly.. (face it, playing the bad guy faction is FUN!). Now KDF numbers will never eaqual Fed faction numbers, but there is no reason that KDF faction number cannot make up 30-40% of the player base.... IF THE MISSION CONTENT IS THERE!
And it really is the mission content that is the most important part. Ships are nice and good and well, costumes and uniforms ditto. One KDF numbers start climbing then there is an opportunity to create PvP faction content that can really make STO a true MMO contender (ie, fed-klingon war, with persistant battlezones of grand sweep..more wargame like..with rewards that actually matter..and areas where the kid gloves are off. You enter the faction PvP zone then your there to fight until you either drop, flee, or achive/fail objectives.)
STO can be all of the things Trek fans want. from the explore the galaxy/boldly go crowd to the empire builders, to the arena fighters. But the games "Foundation" needs to be finished.
Other may disagree, but my opinion has been and still is the STO is still only 2/3 of an MMO. It will not be a full MMO untill the KDF mission content and beginning experience is in game. Once that is there STO will be ready to advance into ground only the smallest handfull of MMO's have touched. Those MMO's are World of ********, EVE online, ****, Guildwars-2 and short list of others that have stepped into full on objective driven factional warfare. Note that the MMO's listed are rather successfull, with only **** being of those named the "least" successfull.. (Tell it to the **** players.. They're insanely loyal to thier game even if it is flooded with RMT's... who wouldn't be there if there wasn't a customer base)
Anyway.. let me end this wall of text. We KDF know what our faction wants and needs. I'm hoping that as STO goes into its 4th year this faction will finally recieve its long long LOOOOONG overdue content.
ahh, you must mean us poor demented... nut cases who just utterly refuse to go away.

next time you hear this one my non special effect challenged brothers and sister, calmly look the the federation trek fan in the eye wearing thier mostly like mail order trek uniform and smile politly, showing the $100 to $300 dental device that gives your proper Klingon teeth, as you stand there in your custom made klingon uniform with a minimum value considering time and materials of not less then say $400-$700, with your carefully applied prosthetic pieces to give you the ridged forhead look, not to mention hair, jewelry, weapon mockups, accessories, and several hours prepping the custume and yourself before the con which likely amounts to over $500, for a total value of anywhere between $300 (super on the cheap) to upwards of $3,000 worth of costume.
................ sigh plesantly.. and say "Fellow Trek fan...the costume and gear I wear set me back about "X" (be truthfull..its that honor thing) and very little of it cam eout of a catalog. It take me "X" amount of time to get into costume each day of the con and quite frankly I consider myself far more trek then YOU, you cheap worthless tribble treker, now get the hell out of my path.
You'll feel much better..and if the morons still don't get it.. use the tops of thier feet for a stepping stone..make sure your largest buddy is pressed against you when you do...thay way the physics of the moment come into play so when the feddy shoves you, all they do is manage to push them selves down...it looks very impressive..a holy man once said to me the secret of walking on water is knowing where the rocks are.. oh.. and be sure to get it on cam for posting on you tube..some carefull post editting and it'll look like the shoved on you and simply bounced.. whats more.. they'll belive that thats the way it really was when they see the video..
Of course I'm sneaky, clever, and deceptive in the pursuit of victory. I'm a KLINGON!
Moral of the story is this.
If you want your Klingon Trek fans to buy your over priced TRIBBLE, then you better have some over priced TRIBBLE they're interested in or it ain't gonna happen. Put a Klingon Sci ship in, not KDF, Klingon. Put off duty cloathing for the KDF faction in., Allow it to be mixed with existing uniform wear. We've been asking for that also. thats cloathing for ALL KDF faction races...and we'll buy it. Allow us to use bits and pieces of faction armor unlocks with our Uniforms and vice verse. Do More Things To Make The Faction More Atrractive To Players. And tell the Feddy player base that this little special is exclusive to the KDF, and considering just how much the fed players have its only fair.. and toss the feds a beach wear package...(note) beach wear will not show if worn with armor...if they want to wear beach shorts and an aloha shirt on an away mission then they get to do it without armor, shield, or kit equipped.
I spent a bunch of money for cryptic points and bought feddy stuff because Cryptic said KDF players didn't spend money. Instead of putting more KDF costumes and such in the C-store they put fed stuff in. And that is why I will never spend my own money to buy Zen again untill the situation is rectified on thier end.
...Tis better to leave the angst out of it, continue to express our desires, hope for the best and be prepared for the worst.
While I do play mostly Fed-Side, I love playing on my KDF toons. And would do so more if there was more to do (that wasn't PvP, alas, I'm not a PvP fan). I've watched the way the KDF have been treated over the years, I've experieced all the things listed on PF's History, etc. But mostly I feel as posted above... Hope for the best...
...If I recall correctly only the Nausicans have no "recial" uniforms...
Khemaraa, the Nausicans have those "razor blade armor" pieces and the breathing-apparatus-face-mask-thingies. It's the Letheans who have no racial uniforms.
You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

Khemaraa sends
If I was to outfit myself to look like G'hargh from STO ( with proper hair and beard) I would have to sink more than 3k into the look. Hardly chump change for leather costume pieces and the proper accessories, but worth it to follow ones fandom desires.
I agree, we KDF do not spend frivolously but when we do we do with gusto.
I would the same in STO for the right "accessories".
If I had the time, I'd at least sit down and build the various Klingon-themed items I designed over the past couple of years:
A Tactical Knife, a proper 24th century Tricorder (I like neither the ST3 nor the STO version), a foldable ODN Recoupler, a diagnostic "toughbook"...I have whole bunch of them on paper.
And while I'd have to build most of them out of wood with only a few metal and plastic parts...it's still not like this is done overnight or I'll get the materials for free.
Cryptic give us "props" to buy and we'll buy them.
I completely agree with these sentiments. We DO spend money, and im not even a huge fan of Klingons. To date my costumes have cost me so very very much because I never go as a Fed.
Right now im working on a Mirror Universe Skant for STLV2013, and its leather (as it should be) and someone would claim that feds only spend money? seriously the leather isnt that expensive from Tandy, but the time to make it, with the tools required is horribly expensive.
For my Honor Guard Uniform I want to get together for my STO Orion Male, Ill have to make a vest, trousers, cape, ect in leather AND all of the armour which will probably be wood and glazed in iron then painted. If i dont glaze it with real metal then it will look like effing wood, and that stuff is not cheap, not at all. So yeah, give us in the KDF something we WANT to buy and THEN we will, thats the way it works.
And we have been asking for LOADS of specific things for a while now, so I would think it easy to pick something out of that massive pile to charge us for. I have loads of Zen buildt up cuz i dont buy fed stuff, so give me something to spend it on.

I'm like the others. Started playing almost a year ago. And I will believe it when I see it. On getting new stuff for KDF. We need stuff from all sections. Ships, uniforms, custom options for characters etc. KDF has a very long way to go to be even to the Fed side.

I would just be happy with a complete KDF that has a firm story in STO that immerses the players in the game as well as the bells and whistles of costumes, trinkets and the like.

Thank you.
The state of the Klingon Empire. Or the indomitable will of its supporters.
There'll be a reckoning coming my brothers...
It's not like theres anything else to do other then glue a lobster on our head, whip out a fancy shmancy costume and go to a convention...
oh.. right, while I'm at it.. MYTHBUSTING TIME.
"Klingon Trek fans never spend any money"
next time you hear this one my non special effect challenged brothers and sister, calmly look the the federation trek fan in the eye wearing thier mostly like mail order trek uniform and smile politly, showing the $100 to $300 dental device that gives your proper Klingon teeth, as you stand there in your custom made klingon uniform with a minimum value considering time and materials of not less then say $400-$700, with your carefully applied prosthetic pieces to give you the ridged forhead look, not to mention hair, jewelry, weapon mockups, accessories, and several hours prepping the custume and yourself before the con which likely amounts to over $500, for a total value of anywhere between $300 (super on the cheap) to upwards of $3,000 worth of costume.
................ sigh plesantly.. and say "Fellow Trek fan...the costume and gear I wear set me back about "X" (be truthfull..its that honor thing) and very little of it cam eout of a catalog.

Khemaraa, the Nausicans have those "razor blade armor" pieces and the breathing-apparatus-face-mask-thingies. It's the Letheans who have no racial uniforms.
You can find/contact me in game as @PatricianVetinari. Playing STO since Feb 2010.

I would just be happy with a complete KDF that has a firm story in STO that immerses the players in the game as well as the bells and whistles of costumes, trinkets and the like.

When I can beam to First City and know I'll end up at First City rather than the previously mentioned undesired location, then I'll believe even some of that might happen.

Too bad no Devs has made short beat the TRIBBLE out of the transporter officer mission. Frankly Ive turned it into a drinking game.
