So what you are saying is the entire rest of the Mark rep system is one big boring joke? Too much time for too little reward?
Well, I'm not going to speak for him, but I'd say that pretty much nails it. Epohh raising is a boring joke too, but at least it provides decent marks for the time required.

Already stopped playing New Romulus content, only thing decently good is Mine Trap.
On tribble we told them it was boring content that wouldn't last any time at all, but fanboys protested saying it was the bestest thing ever, devs responded to the fanboys. The fact that they reused the t4 mission for t5 is disgusting.

Yes, of course ... not trying to defend the Rep. System here ... enjoyed "Mine Trap" for a few runs ... but after 20+ times, even this gets boring ... without Epohh Raising i just would've stopped playing after ~T2 ... and my only reason to play is because I want to play the Tier Missions / see the cutscenes ... which are just a very cheap Versions of "FE" anyway
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
10 mark Rom ground missions are still better than 5 mark Defera ground missions that take twice as long. /shrug
Haven't done Rom "content" besides the Tier quests since T3. But that's because I realized Epohhs + Winter Epohhs was less work/time. Hit T5 on my main yesterday. Between all the Epohhs and the T5 bonus, I've got 4.8k marks to play with. And there'll be the last few Winters to add to that. So, unless I really need more Dil in the future, not much need for more marks.
My other characters have 1-2k marks, and are between T0 and T2, just from Winter epohhs. Haven't stepped foot on New Rom yet with any of them.
(Once winter is over, I'll get back to work on Omega marks. Man, those Defera missions are going to be a massive drag after how easy Rom marks have been to get.)
Oh noes gear grind is the only end game no company has ever done that before pushing you into dailies to obtain your gear as the only end game content oh wait ...... ALL OF THEM now stop whining and go back to it

Once there was a magical time, when Cryptic promised to release FE's without major breaks ... and even managed to release 3 of them within 6 months ... this was the end game content I was hoping for, but guess this ship has sailed long ago after PWE/F2P ...
Now they can't even manage 1/year ... but everyone at Cryptic tells us, they have more resources now than ever yaddayaddayadda ... still don't get how this is possible ...

And I predicted that would be unsustainable, as did everybody else with lots of MMO experience and/or industry knowledge. And look; it was unsustainable.
The only way story content can stay ahead of the average player's play curve is with UGC; a company just can't do it with paid employees, it's not possible.

And yet clearly you haven't played many of those gear grinds. If you had you would know gear grinds are usually accompanied by....wait for it... content for said gear! The Rom missions are incredibly easy and SLOW and therefore BORING. Mine trap is merely decent, but positively shines when compared to the rest of S7.

Well it was sustainable/possible for 6 months ...
I always thought the whole "It took us 1 year to make FE-4, too much resources, not sustainable yaddayadda" statement was kind of funny .... because that would only make sense if they started working on FE 1-3 in 1997 or so ...

sky I've played over 20 mmo's I've reached top level and had some of the best gear in those games i have a full set of the current top gear in world of failcraft I'm quite familiar with the grind specially since its not all that different then grinding rep in mist of faildaria
Maybe I'm just not as easily bored as you after spending years of playing Linage II this game and every game since have been Easy Mode
I already stopped over a month ago at T2 before deciding its a waste of effort.
Almost the entire Romulan rep system is fail. All the energy damage type is plasma, so useless in pvp, the Reman and Romulan sets are junk, most of the stuff their is way overpriced for what it does to. Fortunately its mostly unnecessary, I just went to T2 for the crit passive and console then stopped after that since all the items and passives beyond that are mostly useless or mediocre.
I might be interested in Romulan rep if more items were added like a Romulan ground set with unique visuals, and the energy type was something other then plasma. Also marks need to be easier to earn other then epohh farming, I'd like to be able to earn marks at a reasonable rate comparable to omega marks on elite STFs, and not by raising epohh.

I have to agree that all the gear grinds are roughly equally dumb.
Even the ones involving interesting content or story become a chore after the fourth time or so.
Repetitiveness still is the key to endgame gear it seems.

They could have kept going. IF they hadn't added ANYTHING else to the game.
And I predicted that would be unsustainable, as did everybody else with lots of MMO experience and/or industry knowledge. And look; it was unsustainable.
The only way story content can stay ahead of the average player's play curve is with UGC; a company just can't do it with paid employees, it's not possible.
And yet other MMOs can also regularly churn out new questlines several times a year. LOTRO just released an expansion containing the largest landmass they've ever created, along with over 400 new quests, a continuation of the Epic storyline, new systems (e.g., mounted combat, open tapping, new looting) and are following up with a free instance/raid pack.
I do think it's unlikely that cryptic could maintain a steady supply of FE quality missions; however, expecting new regular mission arcs and the occasional FE should not be too difficult for an MMO company.
It's not a matter of staying ahead of the players in STO's case. STO released with less mission content than most MMOs release with and is well behind the curve for adding new mission content. This would be a case of STO playing catch-up to reach a solid level of mission content, not trying to stay ahead. This is sad considering how they've developed superb storytelling tools/systems and a spectacular environment to deploy them in.
Nothing in an MMO is more boring to me than repetitive "endgame" grind that does nothing other than net new gear to grind the same stuff more efficiently. I'd rather roll a new character and play hundreds (or thousands) of storyline missions again than continue to run the same relative handful of dailies/raids.
Because as with the WW Epohhs, once you've got a chain going, you can keep it going - but despite what people are saying, Epohh tagging is as much of a meaningless grind as any other part of Season 7 - yes, you can make a big pile of Marks doing it, but will you be having fun? I don't see how really.
Which equates to another ham-handed play by Cryptic to over-manage the players. There should be at least two more maps that produce RM's. Epohh herding is about as much fun as fiddling with tribbles, that is to say not at all IMO. What irks me most about this situation is that I haven't seen a word from Cryptic at least addressing this.
They could have kept going. IF they hadn't added ANYTHING else to the game.
For FE level content, perhaps. But this does not give a pass on standard story arc content that does not require a plethora of new systems to produce.
The writers/content designers can use existing assets to set up new storylines while the systems, art, and engineering teams continue to design new stuff. Currently, they're letting the Foundry authors fill that role for them, with mixed results.
I'm hoping that all of the new systems, etc., that Cryptic has added over the last year have been in preparation for even better story arcs and mission content (things that couldn't have been done with the old systems perhaps). New systems need engaging content to go with them.
The systems added would truly enhance their already powerful storytelling tools. It could be great. Time will tell.
They could have kept going. IF they hadn't added ANYTHING else to the game.
Well thats just my opinion, but i would prefer ~12 Story Arcs instead of Lockboxes & Reputation Systems :P ... allright I would probably miss the DOFF System ... so lets say 10 Story Arcs + Doffs :P
So being blunt ... I would say ... the really haven't added ANYTHING else to the game .... considering this, I highly doubt, they really have all these new resources, they are constantly bragging about ... at least not STO ... NWO maybe ...
Patch Notes : Resolved an Issue, where people would accidently experience Fun.
I am only grinding as you call it for the end result .... To be able to purchase equipment that I could not otherwise get. Once I have the equipment I wish to use I would stop doing the missions, rather simple for me. Then if more new equipment was issued then I would probably start the missions again (providing I wanted to use it), isn't that how it works for all players??
And yet other MMOs can also regularly churn out new questlines several times a year. LOTRO just released an expansion containing the largest landmass they've ever created, along with over 400 new quests, a continuation of the Epic storyline, new systems (e.g., mounted combat, open tapping, new looting) and are following up with a free instance/raid pack.
They don't do that several times a year, and they charge for content. PWE could devote manpower to that too, if they charged for content. However, it's still a curve; the average player won't finish quest 400 the week they release the next content pack, he'll finish it long before. A lot of those quests aren't storyline, either; they're just "tag five" with some text and a might-as-well-have-been-random quest giver and location. STO could do that too; it would involve sending you to the same map for a dozen different missions that all had the exact same gameplay. It's in fact exactly what the Exploration missions are.
If you want to pay money for 400 new Exploration missions, I'm sure PWE could arrange that. I'm glad they don't.

I stopped repeating New Romulus content when the Winter Event started and its winter Epohhs gave more marks than I will ever spend.
I have since completed both Reputations, but there is nothing in the Romulan Rep that I would go for.
The sets are sub par, the space weapons are far too expensive and the consumables are not worth the time of day.
The only thing I got from it was the fighters and they were disappointing. I was also excited about the romulan entourage, well until I found out it was on a timer.....

Then you know as well as I that new gear tiers are tied to new content. Its maddening that looking back I felt doing dailies in world of failcraft was more entertaining than in STO. Not only were there more, they were more varied! I left it for CO and then STO, but the way Cryptic has practically abandoned CO and left STO to wither in favor of working on NW makes me want to go back to it.That IS a tragedy when you consider just how sick I was of the hard trinity. Are pet battles as fun as they say?
What wouldn't I give for more well designed STFs? But current Crytic thinks small play area high npc spam as "well designed". /facepalm.
Oh noes gear grind is the only end game no company has ever done that before pushing you into dailies to obtain your gear as the only end game content oh wait ...... ALL OF THEM now stop whining and go back to it
There is repetitive multiplayer raid/instance content, and repetitive solo fetch quest. One can be fun, the other one is annoying. New Romulus is all about fetch quests and solo play. The instance are not that bad, but they reward very little, if you are succesful.
I'd trade the whole reputation thing for new STF to grind for the gear, without thinking. You can also remove the "very difficult to do" New Romulus map, just keep the staging area as a social area.
There is, literally, nothing I enjoy with regards to actual mission consent in all of Tau Dewa.
Instead of moving forward with new, team focused, content like STFs what we got were low quality missions both in ground and space - most of which you are simply better off soloing or at least lose nothing for doing so.
Ground missions collecting rocks, plants and samples for 5 to 10 marks.
Space missions consisting of 5 waves of X that you have to repeat 5 times to fulfill just one daily's worth of 60 marks. These combats take place in empty space maps of no particular quality or appeal.
Events in the teaming queue system that are in no way challenging, and do not offer enough rewards for the time you have to spend doing them.
The best way to earn marks appears to run around like an idiot chasing bunny rabbits on New Romulus and then submitting that to the doff system.
Overall the entire experience for the Tau Dewa sector block promised more than was really delivered - there is some decent story background there walled up behind a month and a half long grind of repeatedly purchasing stacks of hypos and commodities and clicking inventory sliders.
If this were the only type of content available in STO I would quit and as soon as my characters are done with T5 and have their items I will shun Tau Dewa for what it is:
It is an empty shell that exists to sell & support the rep system - which is the opposite of what it should be (the rep system should support the mission and teaming content).
