Seems like I'm having a different problem to most.
When I try to create my new PWE account from my Cryptic account, it tells me that someone else has already registered both my account name and display names. I recall from when account linking was first pushed to users, many people had the same issue and apparently Cryptic had reserved names matching those of existing STO accounts ready for the conversion but for some reason, it locked and would not let you use it - hence many people created new names and much forum rage ensued. I thought this issue had been fixed (its one reason my I never linked my accounts).
Note that the account I use to post to the forum is a different one than the one I am trying to link my STO / Cryptic data to for security reasons - I want to keep a totally separate forum account with a different name.
EDIT: Just emailed PWE support, received an automated response fairly quickly - they estimate 3-4 days before I should see a response - I guess they are busy at the moment! Oh well, guess no Breen Cruiser for me.
EDIT #2: Had a response from customer services, giving me the already posted instructions on how to create an account (the same instructions I was following when the problem I've logged occurred) and a link to reset my Cryptic account's password. Why would I need to reset my password? I know it and can login using it!

Here before PWE (and hopefully) here long after PWE is gone.

I take back all the bad things i said about the incompetence of the people here. Apparently the changed the method of loggin in to the game by recognizing when you log in to your pwe account and now it asks if you have a cryptic account you want to link to it, so kudos to the people who worked on this.
You have my sincere apologies for any offense I may have given to anyone on your team. The Customer service is also rather fast in their replies.
After I got thier mail to login to my account I thought they were talking about logging in onto the web site as that was where the linking was happening.
Apparently the meant to login onto the STO launcher.
When I did it thanked me for loggin in to my PWE account and asked if I had a Cryptic account i wanted to link to it. If yes, it asked me to enter the account name and password.
Nice one. I bypasses the problem of identical PWE and Cryptic account names.
So I have a completely different problem. When I try to link my Cryptic account with PW account, so I argue that the account is linked with different account... But I never linked my Cryptic account with PW account... Now I do not know what to do. I wrote a ticket, but I fear that the characters in my Cryptic account are lost forever, because that certainly support anything do about it.
Cryptic Account inaccessible and lost.
Cryptic was my main account, bought char. slots and had Z-bucks on it.
Goodbye PW !
And you didn't bother submitting a ticket....why? It's posts like this that make me facepalm....one post wonders that post how mad they are at the company when they didn't make the first effort to try and get the situation corrected...

Not lost, stop over reacting. Brandon has stated several times in this thread alone that nobodies accounts have been deleted or characters lost etc. If you have issues with the linking process, contact support, that's why they are there.
It's really funny seeing so many people having issues with this now, when it's been known this was coming for the better part of the last year. Really, there is no reason why anybody shouldn't have linked before the deadline.
Join date is wrong, I've actually been around since STO Beta.
True alters don't have a "main". Account wide unlocks for all unique event rewards!!

I can think of two right off the top of my head:
1) There have been many posts from people who have found the linking process failed in some way (right from when they originally offered the linking option through to now, it still causes some people problems), resulting in having to wait for support to fix the issue.
2) Some of us want to have nothing to do with PWE, as we do not like the influence they have had on STO, therefore we choose not to link accounts to point out that we are Cryptic customers (fans?) NOT pwe customers.
I'm sure others can think of more reasons not to link accounts but those were my two main reasons.
I've now linked my account but had to change usernames, as quite a few have apparently and not happy about having to do so but will get over it I suppose.

And to be honest, i'm losing my patience with this stupid system. It puts me into a loop all the time. Already contacted customer support today, wonder when they will send me an answer.
It always tells me that i have my crytic account linked to another account already.
Why do you make it so over-complicated?
You want us to link our cryptic accounts to our PWE accounts, which you have created for us already when we started playing from a particular date.
When trying to login via the launcher, i enter my PWE account data, then i get a notification that i have to enter a account guard number. After entering that, it puts me into a totally empty account in which i have to choose a profession and build a character. Where is my cryptic account?
When i click the "link your account" link in the launcher, it wants me to install Internet Explorer. WTF???
Don't you think this is a bit much?:
-cryptic account username
-cryptic account user ID
-cryptic account password
-PWE account username
-PWE account user ID
-PWE account password
-account guard code
this is all the TRIBBLE we have to put up with, why so complicated? Geez.
EDIT: in the meanwhile, i contacted customer support and today got a reply from them, stating that my stuck linking process has been reset. I followed BranFlakes' link and again linked my account step by step, which this time worked in the first try.
So, a big "Thank You" goes out to the customer support!
Well I've done exactly the same as so many others here, and unable to link accounts.
Support is a complete joke, all they suggest is, try this, try that, try the other, all resulting in the same thing, no linking of accounts.
So not only have I lost my lifetime subscription, rank, ships I've brought, experience, veteran status, the list goes on, but it seems they now want me to start from scratch with this wonderful Perfect World account (bring back cryptic).
Still waiting for support to help me from last week, oh I forgot, they must now be on xmas holidays, so TRIBBLE all those of us that are unhappily unable to continue with gameplay, but start again, and waste money buying 'Zen', so we can add another patch in the future, so you loose the lot.
Instead of support tickets, how do you actualy make a complaint, to get this resolved, or a complete refund and compensation for them fixing something that wasn't broken, causing those of us that have lost everything within the game.
Yes I am annoyed, which multiplies the longer support just ignores my requests for help.

Yes; please follow the instructions here: http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=784201
Cheers,

Nope, It only allows you to log into a PWE account and there is one with the same name.:(
update: managed to log into my Cryptic account at https://secure.crypticstudios.com/startrek/menu
But no option to link my account.
Seems the FAQ needs to be updated.
Sorry for my bad English, I'm from CZ.

I followed the steps to link and cannot access any of my old account. I get "This account is all ready Linked" what did I do wrong?
I tried changing my email address and still the same thing. I did everything step-by-step.

Dont want support, want my complaint dealt with.
And if I already have a PW account? You're saying I should start a new one anyway?
