I fly one in endgame constantly and pull (what I consider to be) very solid DPS. Also, pretty sure all of REDdit Alert would disagree w/this statement, the Defiant is 110% viable for endgame.
Hell, if it wasn't, why would it only be available at.. uh.. the end of the game? It's a VA ship for crying out loud.
They don't get a shield mod upgrade, but they do get a hull upgrade.
In the interest of balance (and variety), they aren't going to give the Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit a universal BOFF slot when it already has a 5th tactical console, more hull, highest turn rate for a Fed ship, and can cloak.
As much as I love my Tactical Escort Retrofit, even I think that would be too much.

In fact, I kinda retired my fleet defiant today. After having died 4x times in a row in an Elite STF (and no, I didn't fail-fit) I decided the thing is simply too fragile, and went back to my 'lowly' fleet patrol escort. It may not have the fancy 5 tact consoles, but it tanks like crazy, and at least it has the universal ensign station (so you can form a convenient 2x EPtS pair).

I have yet to get a Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit and still fly my Tactical Escort Retrofit. With less hull and no 5th console, I rarely die in Elite STF. And when I do, it's because I was careless.
I got the Fleet Tactical Escort Retrofit today. I have yet to try it in battle but what I can tell you is that main upgrade is the hull and console slot. You also get a special material and two different color patterns for the ship. I have the subspace jump on it also... I'm gonna have a field day.
the defiant class does pretty well in pve, with my old defiant even if its not a fleet defiant yet, i still can solo a cube in elite STF and kill it within 30 sec, but if it s about pvp, the fleet defiant class is pretty poor compared to other fleet escort. it still does alot of dps but the survivability is too low that cant get into puggs pvp. So in my opinion this is the best ship for pve but not for pvp(unless u play in premade team with good healers)

I fly an HEC right now. And when ever we get to tier 5 the fleet HEC will be the last ship i fly.
