Idea for a new skill

stargypsy38stargypsy38 Member Posts: 0 Arc User
After watching a cpl of the movies over the last few days... and watching as bridge consoles blow, and crew go flying, I realized we are missing a MAJOR skill. We already have target shields, engines, aux, and weapons.... we need TARGET BRIDGE!
Here's my idea. Target bridge: Gives a 1.5% chance to knock out a random BO for say, 20 seconds... As for how it'd work in game... for PvE, it would knock out a ship types inherant abilities, or work the same as the regular target skills, just for a longer duration.
In pvp LOL ohhh yeah... thats where the skill would really shine! I could see it being a lot of fun to play with.

Fun to play with, but not be hit by.

I like the idea, but I think 20 seconds would be too long - especially if the effects of the attack stack. I'd hate to lose all my boff abilities for 20 entire seconds while a few escorts shoot at me with rapid fire and scatter volleys.

I'd say 5-8 seconds is enough of a window to do serious damage, either that or have a heal/buff ability that brings the boff back into play (like tac team or brace for impact).

this sounds excatly what the science captains- sub nucleonic beam does.

maybe it should be renamed to- target bridge.

Frankly, I think the only sound advice that one can give new players at this time is to stay away from PVP in STO.

Not quite. Sub-nuc knocks off ALL buffs, not just the ones from your own BOffs. An ally uses their fleet ability ability, or throws one of their teams at you, it's wiped by sub-nuc.

I like the idea of an attack that doesn't wipe your current buffs, but stops you getting more for X seconds.

Base the timer on Aux power, and if it's taking too long, chew on a battery to speed up the timer.

Doesn't the idea assume that one knows where the targets bridge is located as I thought shielding stops most scans?

but wot about the borg? there is no bridge on borg ships.

personally I never understood why the bridge would be exposed anyway... would make sense to me for the bridge to be in the middle of the ship somewhere.

It's not hard to SEE a bridge on the Fed side. It's that Domed part on the saucer.

You know, the one with all the windows.

Like Captain Calhoun once said, Why not just paint an arrow on the ship with a sign that reads "Shoot here to kill captain."

On a real ship, you have the bridge for navigation and the Ops Room (CIC for yanks) for battle control.

The latter is always somewhere deep in the bowels of the ship.

Yes, an example of wonderous engineering considering the ship doesn't use windows to fly or for anything other than looking out of...

But they really should use it for flying. My first lesson in navigation was LOTFW (Look Out the Window) Think about it, it would really help when sensors are gone and or scrambled.

lol- yes. The spindly graceful arms of the classic fed cruiser and the spindly necks of teh classic KDF design. If STO had actual target choices we would all be clipping wings and cutting throats.....

They could at least try and use astronavigation, I mean how did they map the galaxy to begin with? Also if space is rather empty, it makes it rather easy to see the nasty Klingon BoP decloaking of the starboard bow...

Yeah, in my mind, it would not de-buff anything.. it would simply not allow you to use another one at random. And yeah, 20 seconds is probably too long.. I dunno... 5-10 maybe. Also, I wouldnt have it effect captain's abilities or console abilities... just boffs. Maybe even have a rank limit on what boffs could be damaged.
I just think with as much as it's shown Boff's getting tossed around in the shows... we should have something to simulate that in the game. :D

Well, think about it this way:

Target weapons disables/weakens the weapons, making damage-boosting buffs less useful.

Target engines disables/weakens the engines, making speed-boosts less useful.

Target auxiliary disables/weakens the auxiliary power, which significantly affects your ability to heal/tank while it's active.

Target shields disables/weakens the shields, reducing the usefulness of shield buffs.

Basically, your boff powers are already indirectly impacted by the current 'targeting' abilities. I don't think we need to throw 'Target Bridge/Command Center' on top of that. Not to mention there are a LOT of ways to disable/disrupt people's systems right now. Viral Matrix, Magnetometric Generator Overload, tricobalt kinetic stun, the system targeting abilities, massive power drains. . .
