I mean its nice to have the chance to earn it but come on....after 25 days of grinding for an object shouldn't it be our option at that point to do what ever we want with it? I spent more than enough real money on master keys and got a Tholian Orb ship, I then used my lobi to get a Tholian Carrier. I can do what I want with either of those ships and it required a lot less in-game effort on my part.
Just my opinion but if I want to sell it or send it to a lower tier toon on my account after grinding for it shouldn't that be my prerogative?
maybe they should change the description then? cause it says its not.

Really it's quite astonishing how many people only want to get the ship in order to sell it. I think if I were a developer who put effort into making it available to the players, I would be kind of annoyed.
The "grinding" you're talking about is literally just logging in for all of 3 minutes a day, once per character.
It's been stated already that running the daily race 25 times (out of 35+ days the event is active) will score you enough Q pictures to trade in for the cruiser, and that's not even counting the Lobi boxes that you can splurge on to get the pics even faster (which would explain why I'm seeing a few folks running around with Breen cruisers right now).
And yet you compare this to spending god only knows how much Zen and Lobi to unlock lockbox ships? And unless you bought your Zen with lottery winnings or your trust fund stipend, you've likely gone through some amount of effort to make the money or farm the dililthium needed.
Besides, it's a free giveaway ship. Even the prototype Ody and Bortas were character bind on pickup. If the cruiser's not already on the Lobi store (it effectively is if you buy all your Q pics), it'll be in the C-store or some Lockbox soon enough, probably with beefed stats and another console gimmick.

I think they anticipated lots of people wanting to sell the ship, which is why it's bound.
The 2-year anniversary Odyssey and Bortas that they gave away for free was also bound, likely for the same reason.
At first I was kind of bummed out about it being bound, but then again for it being free and easy to get, it should be no problem for players.
The only draw back is, that if you create a new toon after the event is all done and over with, and wanted the Breen vessel for it, you're S.O.L
LIMITED Time offer is just that, limited - after the event is over - You can never get another one. Unless Cryptic rehashes next winter.
We will never know if when Cryptic repeats the winter event that they will introduce a new vessel. Lets see how the sales do in regards to the Lobi shop.
If you want the breen vessel now, you could always buy it via Keys + Box = Lobi.
Lets say for the sake of argument you only get the minimum, that is 2 autograph pic, and a lockbox nets you a minimum of 4 Lobi crystals.
You need a minimum of 500 Lobi Crystals to net you 1,000 pics
1,125 Zen buys you 10 Keys
10 Keys + lockbox of your choice - will net you a base of 40 Lobi Crystals (Using minimum #)
You basically need 120 Keys = 520 Lobi Crystals = 1,000 Q autograph pic minus the 20 extra lobi
I recommend running the race, it can get pretty expensive buying it straight out:
Total amount needed via RL Cash - $115 Dollars US for the Breen ship.
$5 dollars net you 500 Zen points.
$10 dollars net you 1,000 Zen points
$20 dollars net you 2,000 Zen points
A whopping $50 dollars net you 5,000 points
(Solely for the Rich) $100 dollars net you 10,000 points - You all get the picture.
In the long run, run as many races as possible to obtain as many Q Autograph Pic as possible, buy the rest if you are close to around 800 pic - if you are in a hurry.
Note: I used the minimum amount received from both the Q Boxes and Lobi Boxes - amounts may vary.
I understand why it's not an unbound, but I don't get why it's not bound on account.
All I wish is to run the race on a few random chars 25 times and then when I wish to try my ship, to just unpack it on the char I want and not have to anticipate which this character would be 3-4 months before that.
I think this would be a much more elegant solution.

True, but history favors seeing the Breen ship again. Both the prototype Ody and Bort reappeared in the Fleet shops AND got store versions. Chances are quite good that your new character won't be without a Breen ship for long, or at least the opportunity to have a Breen ship.
And again, it's painfully easy to start a new toon, level it up to 6, and join in the racing. On the news that this would be a decent Klink-style Escort Cruiser-y thing I started my very first Fed Tac for the occasion and went racing. It took all of 3 missions and 20 minutes worth of fighting in a red alert.

Here is the thing, its tough to try to understand Cryptic's logic behind these matters, but at the same time it is not. If it were account bound it would mean you will not be playing the games as often as they would like.
The key thing here is called "Enticement," they want you to be tempted to spend money on keys to open the lockboxes for its lobi. It is a currency hidden inside another form of currency, quite devious if you ask me.
Many folks have more than one toon, so making it character bound only works to their advantage. It is not for your or my convienence, but for theirs. They will make money regardless, this is just another means.
Don't let it fool you - The Breen ship is free to obtain, but it is a long process, and during that process they want you spend a little here and there, Making it account bound will work against them.
This is how they are doing it this time around - Last yr event gave you the Holiday Trinkets for free and in greater numbers. This time around it is harder to obtain them (The uncommon ones) - unless you buy a huge amount via the Ferengi boxes.
Still free to obtain, but at a slow and painful crawl. You will have to spend Dilithium for zen to buy at least a ferengi box to obtain the uncommon trinkets at a steady pace. Quite ingenuis but at the same time devious.
Free Breen ship yay, but slower acquistion of uncommon trinkets aaaaaaaaaahhhh - meaning specialty items are to be worked for with some amount of spending.
It is truly the spirit of giving - by the way check out the special holiday project / 250 trinkets of every kind - Fa lalala lalaala lala la Fa lalalaaaa laa la la laaa
#12 I understand their hidden hopes, but they will just not work.
-Assume that I don't have the ship and I want it badly:
I'll just run the race on my toon 25 times and get it.
-Assume that I have many characters and I want the ship badly on some
I'll just run the race on these and leave the rest.
-Assume that like me, you have the ships you want on all your chars (we're talking fleet ships and lockbox ships all across the board).
For me I don't need the ship and it would be nice to have it and try it eventually. But not immediately. Given the choice I would not run the races and not get the ship at all, instead of going nuts and racing across all my chars and/or spending lobi (and my god this is the most expensive lobi ship so far if you do the math)
I personally don't get who would spend insane amounts of lobby to get the ship on even 1 char (except fanatics and/or people that are so rich, their toilet paper is made of money), unless they have no time whatsoever or have their entire December planned to be away from the PC.
So I get that simple logic where they can say: oh let's make it bound on character so we have a better chance to get even more money, but Any person with some sense and time would not meet their hopes.
In the end as a result I will just log in everyday on my Klink to get the ship (because it needs a ship upgrade) and just not play the winter event with the other chars.
While if it were account bound, I would run it probably on 3 chars and keep my 2 ships as a reserve for the future.
Also regarding the Special Christmas Fleet Project: True 250 of each kind and you probably need to spend dil-> c-points -> Zen in a smaller fleet, BUT a fleet of 50+ people playing regularly should have NP with this (after all, all fleet projects are based on 50 person fleets).
Also 250 of each commodity is still better than 200k dilithium right?
So what if I want to sell the ship or give it to a brand new toon that isn't eligible for the winter wonderland yet...if I earn it I earn it. People were able to sell the Jem'Hadar ships from last years event. God forbid I don't want stipulations attached. I am a lifetime sub and I've easily spend over a grand on this game since it came out and countless hours doing the same thing over and over waiting for new content during the countless dry spells. Its bad enough that you have to grind for top end gear now unlike the way it used to be...and yes doing something, even something that takes three minutes is a grind if I am doing it 25-35 days.
Some of you people will defend absolutely anything...go ahead and defend the fact that cloaking has been broke since the patch of 1/11/11 and has never been fixed. I know some of the newbies or people who just are ignorant of the fact will rush to say," My cloak isn't broken" yes pal it is....does your ship get uncloaked every time a comm window comes up? Trust me its broke...never used to be that way.
Every time I file a ticket I never get even an inkling of customer service....so sorry if I am done defending this company...I'll start defending them again when the deserve it or more to the point when the actually earn it.
Let's keep this thread on topic, please. Cloaking WAI or not to WAI, that is not the question.

Multiplied by however many characters you want to run this race on. 3 minutes a day doesn't sound all that bad. 3 minutes a day x 25 days x 6 characters is lot worse. TBH, this gets too boring on just one character. These event things are not all that alt friendly IMO.
The event has a 20 hour cooldown, so it's possible to run the event 5 times in 4 days, so you can get the ship in 20 days.
...But some aren't happy that it's not free enough. So much for holiday spirit.

Winter Event is not so bad the race takes less then 5 minutes to run... but Season 7 is the ultimate alt killing exercise. So add them both together and it's awful.
Also OP is right, it seems too often these days that people will accept a polished TRIBBLE and then try to tell you it's actually not a TRIBBLE at all but a rainbow spewing machine that produces all the dreams you could have ever hoped for or dared to think about.
Being bound is sort of a disappointment. I have a few friends that won't be able to run the race enough to get remotely close to get the ship on their toons and I am running all of my 9 max level toons that will not use them. I do understand why they are bound though.

The only good reason to have them bound is if they are planning to put them for sale in the Lobi store or C-Store... otherwise they are missing a trick. You don't create time limited product knowing that you will have a whole raft of people who want it but won't be able to access it in that time frame.
What you do is tease them, then a month or so later when they are begging for it produce at some absurd price, say 2500 Zen or 900 Lobi.
I still think I should be able to transfer them around my account as I please or sell them if I so chose. There will always be people who won't spend real world money for these ships. Then there are people like me who would rather spend their real money and keep their in game credits.
So what cryptic loses a little money from people who would be willing to spend in game credits. They are already making a killing from all these lock boxes but NO! that's not good enough for them.
Here's a hint cryptic...players want freedom and options. We pay YOUR salary not the other way around.
I worked for the ship...I put in my time, my effort...and I spent real money to get lobi to buy holiday items. I've spent a ton of money in your C-Store since launch so I've done my part. If you can't fix cloaking, or any of the other bugs in my account that I've sent tickets in for since launch the least you can do is unbind the d@mn ship.
Some have jobs and need to do real world things besides sit around and wait for a timer in STO. Nowhere in my post did I say the ship should be free. All I said was running the same silly race 25 times per character is boring.
No money making potential in it... so it goes to the bottom of the pile

I'm sorry I can't offer anything more encouraging to you.
As players we should have more freedom in game (not less) to either gear our characters or make money. Especially if you're paying to play. There's an idea for the devs...if we are paying for the game then we shouldn't have the boxes bound on rewards.
They don't see it that way. Their job is to steer us towards playing how they in their lofty wisdom have decided we should play, whether we appreciate the genius of their guidance or not.
I timed the daily race myself yesterday. It took me about 1 minute and 15 seconds to complete it. So if every successful race yields 40 autographs, that means you only have to do it 25 times (25 X 40 = 1000 amount needed for breenship). And if every race takes approximately 75 seconds to complete, that's 25 times X 75 seconds = 1875 seconds /60 seconds (to give me minutes) = 31.25 minutes rounded down to 31 minutes in total, roughly. Guys, that's only 31 minutes of time that you have to spend divided out into 25 days. That's not bad at all. If you find it boring, do the race and then go do to other activities, or log out and play another game. Yeah, it's not on an account unlock, but the purpose of it being limited to per character is to limit how many of them are given out to players. It isn't fair, but at least it's free. Enough said.

Yeah, I've been having 9 chars do the race every day. It's easy... IF you actually login.
