Breen Warship bound to character?

hardkn0xhardkn0x Member Posts: 3 Arc User
What is the point of putting a ship in a crate if it is bound to your character?

I wasted over a thousand lobi crystals to buy these Autographed 8?10 Glossy Pictures of Q on a second crate that I wanted to pass to my KDF character only to find out that it was locked?!

Not cool putting those type of restrictions in place

PW/Cryptic > Could you guys please fix this I really don't want to waste the ship or the lobi crystals I spent on it :(

They won't, they put those restrictions in place so people can earn the ship and don't store them away to sell them later. The box is because of characters that aren't admirals yet, because if they would simply get the ship you could have a lieutenant in a T5 ship. The box clearly says "Bind on Pickup".

...next time get informed before wasting your resources. Somehow it was even written in the ships description that it was not tradeable in any way.
i sure hope you learned your lesson, that "reading is winning!"

Lol wasting the lobi to do it once is stupid enough. Doing it twice? We need a whole new word for how dumb that is.

Wow. Nice community! You guys are really harsh with him.

The box could at least be Bound To Account if they just do not want ti to be traded on the Exchange.

You should personally write to Cryptic and tell them the mistake you done. They might not refund you your Lobi but maybe they could move the box to another of your characters. It is worth trying.

Things are fine as they are.

If you just had some patience you wouldn't have to waste a single Lobi crystal to get it on all your chars.

Bound to account would be great. I have several characters and I don't need the Breen ship for them all to have.

Let me first say that I love the winter event and it is fun to do. So what is the problem? I play games like STO with a certain feeling of roleplaying. The characters are for me personages in a setting, a story, a fantasy world. That is the reason I have several characters. I don't call them alts because the are not replacable one by another; they are all unique.

I can think that some characters would fly the Breen ship, they have raided it, captured it somewhere. It is a warprize, not a prize from some social event, yet I have to roll them through Q's winter event. Then I have characters that would enjoy participating in such an event, yet they would never going to fly the Breen ship.

Let me play the winter event with character A and let me fly the ship with B if I want that.

The point is so a level 5 character can earn a ship that isn't usable until level 40.

It would be nice if they gave us something else to trade those pictures in for.

    No thanks.

I don't need fodder to waste them on, making it more difficult for myself to get that Breen ship.

I doubt they will do anything to change it considering in the Dev Blog on the Breen ship they clearly said it was bound on pickup.

If you had read it right under the ship specs it said:

NOTE: The above stats are subject to change. The box that the ship comes in, which cannot be opened until the minimum rank listed above, is bound upon pickup.

Well let this be a lesson learned - don't rush things. It's a hard lesson learned for everyone, usually.

SoL aside, what Cryptic can do is allow you to sell items like this back to the store to return your lobi. It doesn't hurt anything, solves problems like this, and gets you much needed brownie points. Or you can be Scrooge about it with the ALL SALES FINAL approach. Sometimes people really do need protection from themselves. Brownie points are more valuable than a couple hundred bucks any day of the week in the long run.

Yes a return would be good as long as the ship has not been openned. I am sure there are some people who bought the ship hoping to make a fortune in EC on the exchange and went - duh!

By my estimates the cost in Lobi is over 1500

Hmm not really sure what the thought process behind this was, making them sell-able benefits everyone.

When you own every alien ship in the game and from what I recall all the ones in crates were tradable, it sets an expectation.

+ I had enough lobi crystals on my fed for two ships. I won't have enough time to do the daily winter events to get the 40 pictures of Q as I'm working most of the time.

Yes I normally read everything but this time I missed it. What I don't understand is some items you can only have one of why did they not do the same if they planned for it not to be a tradable item.

On top of that I can't log a support ticket because the link keeps redirecting to somewhere that does not exist.

Gosh so much work and all I want is a bit of fun in my time off :(

Because they want you to acquire it two ways and two ways only....either play the event, or pay for it......not buy it off the exchange.

It's a free ship, did you really think they were going to treat it like a lockbox ship.

I don't want to sell in on the exchange I want to give it to my second KDF toon

You're wrong. Odyssey and Bortas which also were free ships, weren't tradable either.

I don't see how. anyone can simply do the race 25 times to get the pictures and turn them in. Like JJemetley said, this one is a total freebie. It's not like last year's Jem prize. Those were nearly impossible to get for free. This one is a certainty.

I was originally planning on earning them on all my toons and selling them on the exchange. Between 8 toons that would have been a nice profit. But, when I read the info, it said bind on pickup. Makes it easier, now I don't have to run the race on any of my toons.

Exactly, this is a HUGE improvement over last year ! YOU DON'T NEED TO SPEND HOLIDAY MONEY TO GET THE GOODS this year !

They can sell us lock boxes all year round, This is a GREAT thing !

All you gotta do is PLAY.

THANK YOU CRYPTIC ! I can't sing your praises enough this year !

My only problem is that the item it self gives contradicting info. If you right click it, that info with its asterisk that generally denote an exception, says that it is trade-able. All they have to do to fix that misunderstanding is fix the text.

That makes no sense either as EC in that volume usually comes from trading keys... thats why it makes no sense, Cryptic are going to lose income from this not gain it.

Really? I doubt that. The ship's existence has made the WW zone into the busiest palce in the game. I've never seen the Instance numbers NOT be in the 90s.

What does the Chel Grett not being sellable on the exchange have to do with people enjoying the winter event!?

    You're making no sense.

People seem to be rather ignorant and don't know how to read item descriptions. I see it all the dang time "WTS winter epohh tags" and people wanting to buy/trade the Q glossy pictures. It gets old having to keep telling people those items are character bound and can't be traded. (granted some of them are probably trolls just trying to TRIBBLE people off, but some are also too dumb to read)

this year WW is even busier than last year. Is the Chel Grett the sole reason? probably not, but the place is crammed with players! I have seen no shortage of people doing the race, so I know there are lots of people trying to get it.

Honestly, the non-resellability is irrelevent to whether people enjoy the winter event. But... it doesn't detract from it either.

Exactly so what relevance does that have to the Chel Grett being sell-able or not and the fact there there will be people who missed the winter event who will happily want to buy it from the exchange. One way or another they will likely have got the EC's from Zen or Dilithium and that means money Cryptic would otherwise not get.

The logic that it doesn't cost anything and therefore that's why they are bound to character is a fallacy, equally the coats costs nothing yet I see they are for sale on the exchange.

Note the thread title is not about whether people are enjoying the event, it's about the Chel Grett being bound to character. Try to stay on topic.

Topic? Your topic of discussion is futile.

Cryptic doesn't make money off of exchange sales. Not directly. Very few people would actually be willing to buy Zen just so they can get keys to get the lobi they need for multiple ships.

I suspect that part of this is the fact that the only ways to get the Chel Gret directly are with BoP items. you have to go back to lock box keys to find something that isn't BoP. So.... yeah. The Chel Grett is a giveaway much like the Odyssey prototype. Last year's holiday items were all BoP limited edition items. Thankfully, holiday commodities and the items you get from them are (mostly) not BoP, but they're still limited editions.

Your original question is futile because it is not something the players will ever be able to give you a factual answer on.
