Nice and Fun Improvements.
Live Snowmen to fight.
Second race (not sure how to run it).
And plenty of snowballs.
But why is the only way to buy items is through the Lobi Store?

That really takes the fun out of the event if it costs you real money to enjoy it.

the second race as in the PvP race?
You go to the far left on the map, to a platform that says START.
Wait til a race timer shows, select join race.

Go west of the main gazebo, up a hill lined by blue flags and you'll find the race start area, which has an option to join the race when the event is on.

Stupid that I had to wait over an hour for it. And didn't get a single reward for doing it.
The sad truth is that money is the Ultimate End Game Goal for Cryptic and PWE when it comes to STO and that is not a bad thing, I mean they?ve got to show a profit with it or it won?t be worth keeping around.
In a Free to Play MMO Nothing is Truly ?Free?
I had a feeling it might be a bit harder so you would not win it as much and had to spend money on lock boxes to make up the short fall of pictures etc.
And if you don't win can you re-run it again or have to wait a day to run it again?
But you think you could get those store items without having to purchase lobi, like last year.
You fight the Snowmen to get the Collectibles. Which happens every half hour, at the Top and Bottom of the hour.

I'm confused now.
So the items like the consumables and Scarfs and the like cost Lobi now?
If that's the case then count me out on picking any of them up.
I almost feel bad for the poeple that had to work on this garbage. Almost because if I was working on this I would have actually tried to make soemthing worth doing, instead of dangling a carrot at the end of a stick for me so Ill be tempted to play their pitiful stolen ideas and horriable programming.
No, they only cost Collectibles.
You CAN buy more Collectibles with Lobi, you you don't like EARNING them via the Snowman fight.

Thx.
There are boxes you can buy with lobi that has holiday items in it.
But from what Kirian says, the only other way to get these holiday items is waiting 30 minutes for a snowball fight. Which I think having it rewarded by completing the daily race was better.
And there are plenty of interesting items in the store that's gonig to be difficult to collect them all before the event is over, and impossible if you got multiple characters.
Which one? The Solo one or the PvP one?
All I can say is good way to control is "letting off the gas" (releasing movement), and sudden stopping by rolling.
Also, there is been an old belief that having Q turn you into a beast like a Mastiff, helps with control.
The solo one you need for the Chel Grett. I guess picking it up on 7 alts is gonna take more than 5 minutes per.
Not True.
I got several collectibles from digging up snowballs. I have also received a Winter Epohh tag or two from digging for snowballs.

Last year this was my technique:
* The thing to remember is the NPC Racer doesn't sprint, they only ever "trot". So if you get a lead, you don't have to sprint again the whole rest of the race. You can relax and take your time. With that in mind:
* At the start of the Race, sprint nearly the whole opening straightaway. As you get to the first turn, reduce speed (depending on your skill you can just stop sprinting and slide, double-roll, jump, catch a corner, etc.) and make the turn.
* If you can make that first turn after sprinting, just casually trot through the rest of the course. You'll win, cuz the NPC Racer will never catch up. The end.
This is how I taught my 61-year-old (at the time) STO-playing father how to complete the race all by himself. He's a little arthritic and has bad eyesight (cataracts, well, had them, gone now, yay!), but he would win about 90% of the time using the above methods.
Other tips:
* This is not a "try it once a day"-restricted event. If you fail, don't worry/fret. Just run straight across the middle of the map, requeue with the Race Coordinator, and try again.
* Some of the turns have "snowy corners" that are still considered in-bounds, and are not slippery. Once you learn where these are they are great for stopping, taking short cuts, and making better turns.
* Those last couple of hairpin turns have major snowy corners that are still in-bounds. You can almost run straight through them (that's an exaggeration, but if you spend a little times testing where the track fails, you'll see what I mean).
* It is possible to sprint the whole race. Once I got my practice up, I was doing it all the time... You don't need to, but it can be a fun challenge. I got to the point where I was regularly overtaking the race in front of me! In fact, if I didn't at least lap the NPC Racer in the previous race (ie the one that started before me), I considered myself a failure. LOL
Disclaimer: This notes are all in regards to last year. I'm at work right now and haven't done the race this year, but I expect it to be the same.

Ah got it. Sprint on the stretches, drop to jogging in the turns, uses the Kirk Roll in the apex of the hairpins to quickly change direction. I guess not too bad.
*Never had to, I chose to, to keep it fun/exciting, and to more quickly get through all my alts, but that was my choice.

I tried this and have gotten some items.
But I can't help think how easily people can exploit this and setup bots to farm these piles and sell the items for EC.
BTW Cryptic, the Event Alerts are pathetic. You need to have a Red Alert type notification.
Shields up Red Alert! Derange Mutant Killer Monster Snow Goon off the port bow!
Better than missing the event because the notification doesn't pop out.
What are you talking about Azurian? You never ever have to pay a cent for this event. Do your one quest race, fight evil snow man, and your set, you can get everything you want no problem.
I was just standing around after killing maybe 4 snowmen, because I had to go AFK for a few minutes, and came back to a reward window of three items. If that's all you get, period, then I'm not even going to bother.
As mentioned above, you get the same stuff by fighting the snowmen. And the PvP Race only rewards Snow Epohh Tags.
So only option left is to buy the other items or make a BOT and dig for days in hopes you get the other items.
The snowman fight is every 30 minutes and the even is open for around 35 days. thats a long time.
if you want them faster then yes you can buy lobi as with most things in game there is a quick option, but with such a long window and all the items being fairly cheap, all it takes is a little patience.
not much to ask for some pretty nice costumes and items.
