You can get the new Breen Holiday ship by playing the daily event for 25 days if you want it free. The event runs for 35 days so that gives you a few days off for the holidays.

    Is everyone happy with that?

(you can buy it via lobi faster btw)

This seems like a pretty good deal and it will net you a free warship.

I'll be logging in and running the race with my 6 Toons to make sure that they all have the ship available to them.

I just hope that I don?t forget all about it later.

When does this winter even begin?

    That part was fairly obvious.

To get the Breen ship (without opening up the magical wallet), you have to do one quest 25 times. The same quest. Twenty five times. On twenty five different days. You can't swap in and out a separate quest. No variety whatsoever.

The post I was replying to was making the comment that, at it's core, MMO gameplay is repetitive. I was responding with the fact that while that is fundamentally true, there is usually some attempt to inject something resembling variety into the equation.

Except that STO's endgame does have variety which was what that post was about.

So what if there is just one event to get one item at a Christmas event?

The Breen ship looks very cool and fits with my insane liberated borg's aesthetic style due to its mostly asymmetrical design.

I'm pretty sure that like most events 'round here this one will be fairly brief. It will not surprise me if we have ample time to get all our alts covered. I'm sure 25 days sounds grindy on its face, but give it a look. It might just be fun.

Unless they changed to track, it doesn't take long to run it. What they hopefully changed was the bottleneck of STARTING THE DAMN THING -- as only one player could trigger it every minute or so.

That was a problem at certain times of day. I like to wait until after most of the US goes to bed for stuff like this.

The race was a pain to get onto last year as only 1 person can do it at a time, and generally the person with the least lag got selected as they could press F first. Having to do it for 25 days will be a chore this year if the higher number of players is anything to go by now we have f2P. I only hope this mechanic has been fixed, and also the chances of griefers knocking people off the track are astronomical.

This will likely be as much of a Fiasco as the beer fight for the LoTRO 5th anniversary.

The trick was to change instance and enter one that had the lowest number of people in it. If they run the wonderland the same way just do that.

Is if the timer was set to 12 hours, so you can do it at 7am and then again at 7pm, that way if you are going away over xmas/new years you can still get it and not stress about doing it each day :)

What time does the race start? Or is it a time-gated event? And were there bugs in starting and ending the race?

Considering I'm already logging in atleast once a day for reputation stuff, tacking a 5 minute quest on top of that shouldn't be too terrible.

I will be getting it for sure. For once we can get a cool ship by simply playing the game rather than opening random lockboxes :D

So you'll need between 166 and 500 lobi to purchase it, probably an average of 3-400 or so. Sure seems low for an unrelated shuttle ship. Next lockbox, grand prize will be consoles for your breen ship or sold in the lobi store. Calling it now!

So what's the deal here? Sounds like everyone could own this ship. What happened to the CBS excuse? Oh right I guess it was hogwash to excuse the need to sell ships for 300 dollars each.

FREE is good, I mean how often does CRYPTIC give out a FREE ship. :D

    Question for the Devs:

Does the Breen Vessel come with its own unique bridge?

Based on what I've heard, the race takes less than 5 minutes. A day.

If you do your math, assuming that it IS 5 minutes, you get a total of, guess what, 145 minutes. That's slightly less than 2 and a half hours, but spread throughout 25 days.

And how many hours are there in 25 days again? Anyone?

Sad truth is, its going to take me a little over 4hrs a day to run the race with all my toons - talk about a side job. :(

40+ toons is the downside to all this, definitely a con.

I would be if it was an account wide unlock.

Exactly. It's not going to be that bad, considering the race will only last 5 minutes. If Cryptic would just give the ship to you, you'd log in, get the ship, and log off. You probably be less likely to come back and participate in the winter activities. At least this way they ensure that people will return and have some fun with the snow ball fights :D

Edit: However, don't get me wrong. I still think the ship should be an account wide unlock.

Well, putting aside that 40+ toons is a little insane in itself, is there really a need to have absolutely everything on every toon? :D

I imagine you have a only a couple of mains you play for the most part, some for occasional change of pace or specialized missions and a big number for farming purposes?
i think you can cut at least the farming toons because your other toons won't benefit from farming this.

Even if you real play 40+ toons more or less equally, I can't imagine all of them needing the ship, because they must be so specialized that this ship won't compliment a big number of your builds.

Edit: And if they are not so special?zed why have so many toons?

I'm not a big fan of the Breen designs, and it wouldn't make sense for my character to be flying one, so I was only going to get it so I could sell it on the Exchange. Then I read that it's going to be a bound item, so that's that plan out of the window. Still, the coats look nice. XD

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

I'm VERY happy with this... free ship in exchange for playing more? Yes please! I was thinking it would be some kind of lock box BS where you could earn keys in exchange for a minuscule chance at getting a cool ship. This, on the other hand, is brilliant and the only question is if I'll have time to get it for all of my characters.

Yesss! Ever since I spotted the Chel Grett holo-emitter in the lobi store, I've been after one (or two) of these bad boys.

TBH I like the fact that it's a single-character unlock, considering we don't know the stats yet - it could be a purely Sci ship, or only Eng, etc., plus this gives other peeps who somehow aren't able to make it online the required 25 days the ability to acquire it after the event (should someone be kind enough to deposit some on the Exchange :D).

See you folks at the starting line!

Regarding most of the starships, I like having choices for the sole purpose of variety when cruising sector space. It's not always about stat performance for actual missions.

When I first saw Breen starships on DS9, I disliked them for their asymmetry. Although, I thought they had an interesting, organic quality about them. I want at least one due to that unique quality. Getting one on additional alts is just icing on the cake. I can store a few in personal banks until I'm confident that character needs it for a mission. Or whenever I feel like cruising in something different.

    Don't you mean, definitely a...KHAAAAAAAAAN! :P

All jokes aside, 40+ toons each getting a Breen ship is an impressive goal to meet - theoretically, I guess you could make it slightly easier and stagger it out to ~30 a day, with 10 or so rotating randomly, for all 35 days...not sure about the math on that one though.

Its a free ship...and people complain. All you need to do is a easy daily and people complain. I suppose people expect to be handed free ships for just showing up...
