My favorite ship design in the game is the Excalibur class. Now, I know CBS said no T5 connie, so lock that skin if you must. But can I please have a fleet Excalibur Mr. Stahl?
**** Locking the Connie. you want an Excaliber. Give me the ****ing connie skin too.
CBS says no Connie. That's about it for that. You should hope they at least let you use the Excalibur, Vesper, and Exeter, if you want anything close to the classic profile of the Connie.
I can't wait to fly a fleet Vesper myself... I just love how cryptic made 3 versions of each ship... a basic original design, a "rugged" older design, that's still not too old, but probably have been in service for a good 20-30 years and some brand new few year old models.
So yeah, can't wait to fly a T5 Vesper/Excalibur. There's T5 escorts, science vessels, T5 Cheyennes ()... give the Excalibur/Exeter/Vesper some love, please!
I would like to know if cryptic could dance around the official message and release a tier 5 of whichever connie did not get the mandate, as for op's subject there is no excuse for the lack of fleet exeters. When the fleet Exeter does come, it will be woefully underpowered just like all the other low tier fleet conversions sadly. Won't stop me from pissing of my teammates though.
Logically the Vesper and Excalibur are "new" starships, so I wouldn't see why not. But personally rather see a new T5 starship that takes omage to the Consitution, but much larger. (Though far from the JJPrize).
Consequently, since the T2 Connie is denied a fleet ship, for some type of parity, the K'Tanco was also locked out from a Fleet model.

I love it how they look at these threads but never reply. I would really like to know, if CBS said no to the Constitution, why don't we get the Excalibur/Vesper/Exeter?
FKA K-Tar, grumpy Klingon/El-Aurian hybrid. Now assimilated by PWE.
Sometimes, if you want to bury the hatchet with a Klingon, it has to be in his skull. - Captain K'Tar of the USS Danu about J'mpok.
Not my body parts, mind you. I'm rather attached to them. But, someone else's would do.
The Ex is probably the best looking ship in the game. Even more than my beloved Vesta. It's the classic Trek ship silhouette, in a nicely updated package. Looses those eye sore nacelles that ruin the refit Conny's looks, too. And, I love the classic beveled edge saucers. I think if the NX had that design feature, it would have been easier to accept as Constitution predecessor.
But, I digress, I'd gladly abandon my assault cruiser refit for a T5 Exeter.

If we can have a Fleet K'tinga, why can't we have a Fleet Constitution? CBS logic fails here.
Were the K'tinga and Constitution not launched at around the same time? If they're going to use the excuse that the B'rel and K'tinga were apart of the Dominion War (still in service) then you can give us a Tier 5 Miranda Class too.
And... Starfleet made a 25th Century NX Class. The Romulans made a 25th Century Bird of Prey. Tell me CBS, what is stopping Starfleet from making a 25th Century Constitution? Hmmm.....

The K'tinga is actually a "refit" in itself. Canonically that is... There was an episode of Enterprise, that had a "D4" in it, which was basically the original low-poly TOS K'tinga. Also it's stated in ST lore on various occasions how klingons don't feel an urge to come up with newer ship designs, when the current - usually decade or century old - frame serves their needs right. So the K'tinga argument *can* be explained away by the klingons' "philosphy of why fix it if it ain't broke".
Same goes for the romulans I guess... and the NX class is stated to be a homage, a "replica". They only re-used the frame, so other than the exterior (and maybe the interior if someday we do get an NX bridge/interior), it's was constructed via 25th century methods. Also, it's a Tier1 ship and was never in any way suggested that it would one day get an upgrade of some sort. Take it as a museum/training ship of some sort, that went thru emergency refits because of the war.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not defending CBS's decision, it's just what I think they would come up with as a semi-valid argument for not wanting the Constitution to be featured as a T5 ship. Though I myself, can't see a reason why they can't just let us have the other 3 ships... I always think of the Exeter as *the* 25th century Constitution.

Granted.
Yet the second part of my post still holds merit. If Starfleet and the Romulan Empire (an Empire of which has fallen to pieces) can create 25th Century versions of old 22nd Century ships, why can't Starfleet make a 25th Century version of the 23rd Century Constitution?

For the same reason the modern US military is not using a Sherman refit with composite armor: they have the Abrams.
Just like the 25th century replica of the NX that's still only comparable to a modern T1 ship it can't cut the mustard.

I was going to try and argue against this, but the unmitigated derp of space encounter designs and battlefield meaninglessness of starship progression foils all the arguments.
Whatever, that ship flew out of spacedock three years ago. T5 TOS Connie, ho!

Yet the Excelsior (when you've got the Intrepid and Galaxy) can?

Good point! Why does the Excelsior deserve more love than any other ship? ... apart from the Oddy and the Vesta ugh... They just made it into a god ship! That is a bit too much I think!
Good point! Why does the Excelsior deserve more love than any other ship?
Granted, the Excelsior is a classy design, but there is no reason why we should be able to fly the Fleet Excelsior when we've got an Intrepid, especially when they wont allow us a higher Tier Constitution.
For the record, I wouldn't use a Tier #5 Constitution, my argument is merely for being practical. As auricius has stated, the Exeter design pretty much looks to be a 25th Century Constitution. They could at the very least let us fly around in that.

Personally, I don't like either of those designs. The Veteran ship too, that thing is damn ugly. Whoever put that hull/deflector on it needs to be shot.

Agreed, I don't really like them either... the Chimera looks better than the rest of the bunch, but meh... the latest ship designs feel rough-and-ready even if they aren't downright fugly, they still make my eyes itch... I usually strap on a few parts of the other ship classes and/or use another hull material, because the way they look is just wrong. There's a couple of older ships which look beautiful that have the new material, like the Sao Paolo, Bellerophon or the Thunderchild, but recent ships like the Regent, Vesta and the Armitage all look like cheap plastic/inflatable toys for 3 year olds.

Idunno, the Vet Escort has something of a Captain Proton charm (no argument regarding the oddly occluded deflector tho). I agree about the others, tho. The Odyssey is a non-euclidean Eldritch Horror from certain angles, and the Vesta doesn't even really have a 'good side'. The variants just look kinda lumpen and generic, and like they belong as Star Cruiser variants.

Yes, because the devs have repeatedly said how much they like this ship.
Good point! Why does the Excelsior deserve more love than any other ship? ... apart from the Oddy and the Vesta ugh... They just made it into a god ship! That is a bit too much I think!
You mean the devs have beefed up a ship because they want too, without regard for what the community wants? Surely you can't mean that. :P
