Why can't we capture Madran?

hyplhypl Member Posts: 3,719 Arc User
During the Romulan Tier 1 warehouse mission, it's possible to catch up to Madran and attack him until his health is 0, but he keeps going regardless. Why can't we capture him? It would be great if we could capture him as a bonus objective for more Romulan marks.

You should know once a minor character has appeared in two episodes, they become immortal until the series finale or the actor wants more money. It's really our own fault for letting him walk the first time.

Because he's attained Saturday Morning Cartoon Villain status.

Once a character reaches that, they'll be thwarted time and again until the writers run out of material for them.

uh, thanks for the information. This means that there is actually no point in doing this mission.

Where is this warehouse mission? I am into T3 now and got no warehouse mission to do, only the "look at camera recording" and "get recording from shuttle" in the mountains...

The warehouse is in the staging area, just North of the shuttle landing pad. There's a Romulan Civilian standing outside who you need to talk to, and he'll let you in.

This character is why I don't play my Romulan any more. Tovan Khev is NOT my BFF! Get him off my bridge!

Because, lamentably, there is no option to just shoot him in his seat when you first realize who he is.

    Believe me, I tried.

Speak for yourself... I tried to kill the little troll when I found out he was using the Romulans as slaves.

Except of cause if you want 3 easily obtained Romulan reshearch.
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

He's a named character, he can't be killed.

Unless, he fastens his seatbelt.... (Let's see who gets the reference.)

I like the reference to Saturday morning cartoons... that was a good one :D

though I do believe all who want to / wanted to, vaporize him, (me too), I have a feeling that we are going to see him in the future.

That's more in line with a Saturday morning cartoon bad guy, take a licking and keeps on tickin... :P

This thread has been relocated from Federation Gameplay to the Missions and Episodes subforum.

On a personal note, I don't see Cryptic changing this much. Madran is what we would call a 'recurring character'. It would be satisfying if you at least got to arrest him and beam him straight to your brig.

We should get accolades for busting Madran over and over again. :)

Even if you could capture Madran, he would keep coming back, since it's a repeatable mission.
We can consider Madran one of those slimy go-betweens that governments turn to when they don't want to get their hands dirty and gets bailed out by those same governments because he is useful to them. New Romulus is in desperate need of supplies so they probably aren't looking too close at where those supplies are coming from. I look at the warehouse mission as repeatedly reminding Madran that if he's gonna cheat anyone it better not be the hand that feeds him.
Honestly the mission doesn't make a lot of sense as a repeatable, going over his books and checking inventory, ya ok, you could do that every day without it seeming ridiculous, especially with a Ferenghi involved, but having him escape while you are fighting his guards only to have to do the same things over again the next day turns it into a bad comedy.
It would make more sense if Madran was a bystander in this, he might be aware something is amiss but finds no profit in getting involved, while at the same time the real villains are cloaked Tal'Shiar that are sneaking around in the warehouse, doctoring the records to smuggle in contraband and those are the ones you have to repeatedly fight.
If something is not broken, don't fix it, if it is broken, don't leave it broken.

That mission needs to be reworked anyway. The mission waypoints are seriously bugged, and there are way too many Hirogen for me and my Boffs to fight without at least three respawns per group. Then again, maybe it's just that my build sucks.

"Critics who say that the optimistic utopia Star Trek depicted is now outmoded forget the cultural context that gave birth to it: Star Trek was not a manifestation of optimism when optimism was easy. Star Trek declared a hope for a future that nobody stuck in the present could believe in. For all our struggles today, we haven’t outgrown the need for stories like Star Trek. We need tales of optimism, of heroes, of courage and goodness now as much as we’ve ever needed them."
