I agree with your points Voicesdark, I also think that if we opened a public memorial that people could submit names to, it would be rife with all sorts of trolling/fake names etc.

Perhaps we could open a generic memorial for the fallen, with no specific names, in a public place like ESD/Qo'nos.

I'm very sorry to hear this, you have my sympathies.

I'm not really sure how we would implement something like this. Definitely wouldn't want to put it into every starbase system, unless it was somehow customizable by the fleet.

Does anyone know of any sort of canonical Starfleet/Klingon Memorial? I think it would be cooler to get some central place to recognize various players who may have been lost. Though it would be difficult to figure out how to update that, and how to vet those updates.

Still, very sorry for your loss.

    . . .Sad taco is sad. . .

There's the statue of Zefram Cochrane mentioned in First Contact. The folks at Decipher mocked up a photo of that, as they tended to do with things that were memorably mentioned but never shown. Likewise with Arne Darvin's statue, holding Kirk's head in one hand and a tribble in the other.

What I think would make the most sense is to have a "Hall of Heroes" added to starbases or a museum holding.

Players could select between ship portraits and could have statues behind glass that would be scaled up stone/marble player models. Which could be whatever the fleet leadership wants. Choose a pose. Customize them in the tailor. Pick a name to appear on the plaque underneath, similar to how names display on ship hulls.

It could be in honor of friends or fleet members. It could be roleplay statues of captains' heroes or family members. It gives the OPTION to honor real people but wouldn't be reserved for that.

And as Cryptic offered "special projects", you could have Cryptic-created historical diaramas that can be placed into exhibit spaces. The signing of the treaty at the end of the Fed/Dominion War. Key moments from the various series, strategically positioned to only show characters you can get likeness approvals on.

Maybe also have the museum include a choice of ship bridges attached.

    Here's an idea:

    Starbase Featured Project: Memorial/Commemorative Plaque

No names, if tech doesn't allow it. Just some decent description.

    BUT...

Make it free this time. No 200,000 dilithium cost. Not in this case.

I don't think much work would be required for a simple plaque with generic text. It could be reused from the ones in SFA. And I believe it would be really generous of you, should you decide on such a gesture.

    EDIT:
Or, instead of interior plaque, an exterior holographic memorial, like the one at Wolf 359 - also as a free Featured Project.

I'm sorry to read you loss ma'am.

I support suaveks idea of a Special Fleet plaque.

Humbly speaking, not every fleet will have this type of loss. But for those who do (or for those who simply want the new shiny starbase project), then this is a wonderful chance to make every Fleet base truely individualized.

A "free" project like this should not be a slippery slope for the users though.

What would be grand is if the description could be customizable by the Fleet Leader (or whomever). Since we can add and edit our character biography, then the plaque could have the same function.

This way, the plaque is personalized and private to the Fleet.

Well each starbase has about a dozen glowing platforms...

Why not make it some option the fleet leader has to place the default costume slot of a toon into one of those platforms as a hologram version of that character?

This could also work for living fleet leadership personnel.

i was thinking that, there are all those glowing platforms, it would be cool to put statues or holograms of fleet leadership. it could be a way to honor former leaders and fallen members..

okay since the two main ideas involve a generalize memorial at SFA or a personalized one at the fleet base I came up with an idea for either one. This is based off the idea of using the round closed off building at SFA (like the one for duty officers and the path to 2409) or it could be a level of the fleetbase.

a generalized saying for the sfa memorial could be something like:

We live each day to honor those whom we have lost,
We explore new worlds, new civilizations,
And forge friendships with old enemies.
We do these things not just for ourselves,
but for those that are no longer here to do them.

For death is not an end,
But a new trek we must all take.

    ____

PS: it's just meant to be a quick vis of the idea to get a general idea of what i was talking about

Where would you put the one for KDF ? And what would that one look like ? Good idea though....still think plaque at starbase itself should (also) be possible .And as someone already stated : that should be a totally free project . It doesn't have any value - except a profound emotional one - anyway .

Frak.....Klingons...ummm...yeah....time to dust off my played for 5 mins klingon.

I agree that it should be at the fleet bases, but others seem to like the general public idea to, that's why i took an empty building at sfa that also has the geometry of a fleet base level as well so it could be either or.

Well I was going to dust off my Klingon to try to figure an idea of where to put this on the KDF side, only to remember I deleted him lol. To be quite honest the Klingon First city is such a disaster zone cluster%$@& that I still think it makes more sense just having it be a free upgrade level to the fleet bases. I'm sure it would be a lot easier to just add a new level to the fleet base especially when it comes to the KDF faction.

that being said I do have an idea for the KDF side you'll just have to give me some time to make up a vis mockup to see what people thing. Just keep in mind they are just quick mock-ups, know tacofangs would really make them amazing in-game.

One place such a memorial could ( and maybe should ) be located is the great hall .Plenty of walls there to put a big memorial sign on . Should be simple though : KDF emblem with klingon text underneath .

    My condolences for your loss.

Re. the implementation: I'm thinking along the lines of Tribble testing rewards - a limited-availability item to be claimed from the C-store. Could you make a trophy of some sort that could then be made available to Meemoquack, and perhaps to her fleetmates, that they could place on their ships, and as a logical extension if/when the feature is implemented, on the base? That would allow it to be put into place, and could be done on a case-by-case scenario - i.e. the trophy could be given to people as and when occasion befits, without the risk of flaming/trolling.

I don't know anything about development or the like, but I do hope something is possible.

I'm incredibly sorry for your loss, I send my condolences to you, your family and your fleet. I sincerely hope the DEV's can whip something up as a memorial, it seems only fitting.

I like the idea of a special starbase/embassy level, even if it opens to just a single room. For Feds, a garden area like the one shown by voicesdark. For KDF, a hall with some statues and a Klingon worthy saying on a wall at the end. These don't seem undoable given the current technology, and are generic enough anyone could use it. I would have a cost associated with it, but something cheap yet meaningful. Maybe a single or a few councilor, some sort of commodity that fit the bill (but not a lot of them). Just enough cost that people wouldn't just build it to build it.

I would also add, if technologically possible within the engine, a Mass Effect like wall where Fleet Admins can add name plaques for the fallen. I remember when playing that game I couldn't help but stop and reminisce on some of the names when I would pass by. I think that would be neat if it could be done. Again, though, it should be in the Memorial Room on the Fleet's starbase or embassy. This allows it to be public to the fleet but private and away from the... "people"... who would deface such a thing.

Such a setup would also be nice for RP groups. I bet they would enjoy something like this even if only for RP purposes.

    To the OP:

My condolences on your loss. I don't believe I knew or knew of your husband, but it is a sad day when any member of this great (if slightly dysfunctional at times) community falls. I know nothing we can say or do can replace your loss, but I will pray for you and your family. May God bring peace and comfort to you all.

yeah sorry I know I said I'd get the idea I had for the kdf one planned out like I did with the fed one, just had to think about it some more and figure out the Klingon architecture enough. One thing that would really help is if any of yall have a kdf fleet with the fleetbase if you could invite me to your fleetbase so I could see what it looks like then I could get a 3d model of the design done up pretty quickly.

I'm gonna crash out of a bit but when I wake up I'll get to working on it.

PS: about the mass effect style wall, I know what you're talking about but don't think the game has the tech for something like that, if it did then they probably would have used it so we could make custom ship plaques.
