    To put my opinion simple

You open your child up for the internet meaning the ability to browse webs, play online mmo wether browser based or otherwise.

Because of that your child will always be at risk their are ways to protect as much as many ways to bypass those, youll never really will be able to protect ur child(ren) from all of it and one day youl have to face the fact that this sort of "wrong" interaction can happen and its up to you and your husband/wife to be able to see when this happens and make a stop to it.

You can also place simple guidelines and rules in like the old do not talk to strangers rule as odd or funny that may sound. You can also google up "how to protect children online" you will come to some sites able to give you advice or help on the situation to handle it.

The web is like the most significant interactive reference e-book in the entire globe. And even though there are lots of superb data there are also web sites that are not meant for youngsters to see due to the fact they contain inappropriate materials. Using internet filter for your residence and loved ones can make certain your kids by no means see these sites, and it lets us you chill out just a tiny, simply because following you can have a appear in the logs and see exactly where they?ve been. What can parental web filter do for you? A lot. It is like obtaining your individual personal net nanny.

how about restricting your kids from playing STO (or any mmo for that matter). There are plenty of good single players games available.
getting them wii is not a bad idea which involves your kids to do some physical exercise with their friends. Kinds shouldn't pass a lot of time sitting in front of screens anyway.

Cryptic will not, and should not, add more mechanics to break in this game because parents aren't bothering to actually educate their child on what is wrong or right. As you said, the game is a Teen rated game, if your still worried about adult content at their teens then your babying your child, and if your allowing anyone below that to play the game, its your own fault.

Look up RageNineteen on Youtube and find his Parental Guidance video (I don't want to link it as it does contain some language and I'm not sure how far Cryptic will let me go).

Bottom line, your the parent, start parenting and stop relying on the game to do half your job for you.

There's also a reason that the ESRB has on EVERY ONLINE BASED GAME, "Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB."

That's because it's impossible to rate EVERY online interaction your child may run into. In short, if you can't be there to monitor what your child is doing or don't like what they are seeing, do not let them play the game.

Game devs should not be substitute parents.

It is the Parents Responsibility to Know what Games and what Interactions there child Will wind up being apart of. Yes Cryptic Studios - Star Trek Online Is Rated T for Teen. The Game in itself is Rated T, If you removed all Massive Multiplayer parts of the Game it Falls under that Rating. Once you bring it into the Online World It has the Disclaimer of "Online Interactions Not Rated by the ESRB."

As for Parental Controls.. They are all good until You actually use them. Problem Is, I grew up with the Introduction of Parental Controls and Passwording Access. Back on AOL it was Charge Per Minute and Dialing a Long distance Number. Back then the Internet was a very Void and Lonely Place BUT I still learned within a few Days as a Kid how to Bypass and install programs that disabled the Parental Controls but when needed Still seemed to be working with a quick Hot Key Pressed. There was Also a very Popular Program out there Developed called AOHELL. Which Ran Stealithly in the background and keylogged Passwords for me. Teenagers and Kids are Bound to go against whatever Means a parent puts out there. Does not matter how Vigiliant you are, Or how much you beg a Software Company to do YOUR JOB with MODERATING what YOUR CHILD does. My son does NOT play MMORPG's. If he plays any RPG's it's Single player ones. It is hands down Up to the Parent to Monitor and Control What Movies, Music, Video Games, Beverages, etc etc etc The Child Gets a hold of. Second Off.. As for Pervs, Trolls, etc etc.

YOU ARE PLAYING A GAME BASED ON STAR TREK! The Same Star Trek Known For Races Bred to be addicted To Drugs (Ketracel White), ORION SEX SLAVES, Kirk FK'd Everything that was brought into creation. The Game And shows Delt with Everything From Gender Politics, Race Politics, Genocidal Maniacs and Pushing the Boundaries of Sexual Inuendo On TV. Cultural Lines that few Shows themselves were Willing to Cross. Star Trek has plowed over them all sometimes with Subtly Sometimes without. The Game has Contraband, Alcohol, Scantily Dressed Women. Ferengi's that Are Blatant about how they Feel About Females. What In The World causes you to be afraid of the players, they Honestly Are playing out All the Roles that Star Trek has Thrown out there. If you Run around as a Scantily Clothes Orion, Expect to get hit on.. It was Canon. They Lured every Species they could using Pheremones to get there Way.

As a Father and a child that Grew up With the Introduction to Online Gaming and Online Services in General. YOU CAN NOT EVER STOP A CHILD. Let alone Teenagers! Look at what our Own Parents tried to keep us from doing.. what was the Typical response.. We found another way to do it. We can't Drink Liqour, Well hell we found someone Else to get it from us. You Tell us not to do Drugs or have Sex, We did it anyway. This has gone on Before the Invention of the Internet, it will go on long after it changes and well all turn into rotting corpses in the ground. Todays Parents Shelter The Children Way to much. In sports they no longer Keep score because it might hurt there feelings if they lost. We yell at kids to stop picking on other kids, we do it so much that when they get into the Real World into a JOB situation they NO LONGER know how to React when a supervisor Tells them they Screwed up. Sheltering a child HARMS a child. They are either going to see it behind your back when you are NOT around, or you can be there and guide them threw it and try to at least raise them as a Balanced Child. Trust me, What they see, hear, and learn in school from Other kids, is no where NEAR in Comparison to what they will see in an Online Game. TRUST ME. There is so much out there now that even I go.. What the hell is that and how do I get involved! **** Today is insane. There is no Way to Block Out Real Life. Stop Being a Parent That Tries, You Hurt Your Child More then You Will Realize Until It Is To Late. Just STOP.

I know You're Most Likely Going To Kill this Link Branflakes.. I love you, I hold no hatred Over it, BUt Hopefully it's up Long enough to Sink in.

Just don't let them log on from your little fundamentalist militia bunker if they can't withstand the mind-warping trauma of dirty words.

Sorry, I just can't stand it when parents try to shift their responsibilities to others.

Norway and Yeager dammit... I still want my Typhoon and Jupiter though.
JJ Trek The Kelvin Timeline is just Trek and it's fully canon... get over it. But I still prefer TAR.
