PS: If this gets a Fleet version... More shields please.

It is a fleet ship in all but name. it's roughly analogous to the Fleet Patrol Escort.
My Romulan Liberated Borg character made it to Level 30 and beat the (old) Defense of New Romulus with the skill point bug. :D

Just for console, that ship is worth it. Do a mission with 4 out 5 teammates have that console and stagger the use :D I know we tried with my fleet. I like it more that fleet defiant for my engineering toon. I can tank real well with it and with assimilated console and temporal one too I get good constant dps (lots of crit with more crit bonus) from phasers cannons setup, 3 fleet dhc critd, 1 quad, 3 fleet turrets acc. All that with 4 mk xii blue phasers consolem 2 blue mk XII neutronium gives me resist. I can afford to get agro and stay there for the kill with my engineer.

Can not tank quite as well with my tactical toon. but bug is more a match for his skills tankwise and burst dps can't compare with polaron and 2 pces Jem'hadar set with Maco XII shield or fleet defiant which is less tanky, even more so since S7 (no more 3 pces borg). But, add that console to either and you have a get out of jail button for 12 seconds when things gets hot before you have no more shield. Don't forget, you need shields up for it to work ;).

As a side note, for such an agile ship its bigger than expected.
Jamal : Tactical space specialist. USS Bug Warrior and many others
    E'Mc2 : Science Reman torp T'Varo, deadly annoyance :P
Kunmal: Tactical fed Klingon, ground specialist, USS Kanewaga
Ka -tet Tier 5 fleet fully completed Starbase and fleet property

This is one tough little ship.

Especially when equipped right, you can get some really nice shields on this little steamer...
I bought it, nice little tank. I use it with my engineer toon and love it. Great DPS, shield mod isn't such a problem with maco xii and 1 field gen, 9.7k shield. 34500 hull translate to over 46k with my skills in space.

I am not an Engineer toon... I'm a TAC, but added some engineer skills for improving shields and hull... and that helps a lot with survivability...

I also don't have any MACO gear, but I've got a Field Generator stacked with a SIF, Emitter Amp, and Field Emitter, all MK XI consoles in either uncommon or rare quality. Throw in a couple of RCS's... and holymoly, this ship is faaast, agile... and she turns on a dime!

Took my little Steamer out to Kerrat and tried her out against some klinks and I gotta say I was damned impressed!

Only real complaint that I have though... is the Hull Colors!

They're too damn dark! Sure, they look great in the ship yard, and once you're in sector space they look fine.

But then when you get into Deep Space, there must be some sort of bug cause once there the hull colors all look the same and the ship is just so dark. It's almost totally Black... makes me think of a ship running Black Ops cause its painted black to blend in and be hard to see!

It gets worse when you equip the Reman Covariant Shield, which is one of those that changes your hull appearance to make it darker.

Tell me this wasn't intended with the hull colors?

This is likely just a graphical bug with the lighting on the model. I imagine that they will probably fix it with an upcoming patch at some point.

They don't make alterations to ship graphics or appearances. We have a list of issues with some ships since launch day. It was mostly ignored since one of the Devs left in frustration over the issue.

Just a word of warning about this ship:

If you discharge it, you cannot re-claim it on the same character.

I wasn't aware that account unlocks worked in that way, and thought you could always reclaim it later. This one won't let you though.

Account unlocks don't work that way, you should be able to discharge and reclaim any c-store ship as many times as you want. Sounds like a bug.

Nope. I've got a line of red text coming up telling me it's once per character only. Looks like the Steamrunner is designed that way.

I'm so glad to be running a Steamrunner finally; that ugly Zephyr just didn't cut it.

However, I'm wondering if there is an issue with the geometry of the raised section on the upper rear of the saucer, behind the bridge. On my resin model of the craft, this area seems to be an enclosed shuttlebay with bay doors in the rear.

But in game this area is a kind of hollow hood that seems to serve no function.

It's hard to find good visual references for this spot. Does anyone else have a better concept of what this area should look like?

Also it feels like the deflector pod drops a little lower than it should.

    But I still LOVE it.
    Now a top-rated spotlight mission!

Personally I feel the Deflector barely hangs low enough, all the times I oogled it in game I see like a fourth of it above saucer level.

Any word on when it will hit the C-Store?

That's an interesting question. So far Cryptic has kept away from the temptation to start C-store-selling Lockbox ships (The original Odyssey Star Cruiser was a free giveaway, so it doesn't count). There are probably a number of reasons for it, like:

    1. They probably feel they're making more money from Master Key purchases than they are on individual ships.
    2. Almost every lockbox ship is inherently overpowered, so making supplies "unlimited" via C-store availability will kill what little balance is left. Imagine how insane things would get if EVERYONE could buy a Bug as-is.

Considering that on paper the Steamrunner is 2nd only to the Bug as an escort, Cryptic might be of a mind to reduce supply.

Then again, the supply is basically "unlimited" as well, except that the channel of purchase, which is by buying the $25 ($10 was only a promo price) "Steam Starter Pack" is unusual for most players, and the price is competitive with most other C-store ships (better value even if you have a low-level alt that needs a decent ship).

So here are the two sides of the argument:

    Pro-Steam Exclusive:

    1. Valve could have an agreement in place with PWE to keep the starter pack Steam-exclusive in return for promoting STO as a "better with Steam" game (Valve's main interest is in getting people to adopt the Steam platform).

    2. "Steamrunner" makes sense as a fun "Steam" name, and the Steamrunner's special ability and consoles are Half-Life/Team Fortress 2 references.

    3. Cryptic may be in favor of keeping the Steamrunner off the C-store for balance reasons.

    Pro-C-store Addition:

    1. The C-store is more familiar to the majority of STO players, and Perfect World doesn't have to give a cut to Valve when players purchase Zen directly (instead of via a Steam Wallet).

    2. The Steamrunner is OP, which will make it a desirable buy for people too sane to save up for a Bug.

    3. Allowing a large influx of ships on a similar (but still not equal) level to the Bug's OP-ness may put a dent in the Bug's PVP dominance (given Bug scarcity and general low-priority status of PVP, this is unlikely).

    4. Putting a Steamrunner on the C-store would open up future possibilities for a Fleet Steamrunner and thus additional FSM sales.

    Analysis

Cryptic has been fairly circumspect so far about not putting lockbox or other "rare" ships in the C-store, for whatever reasons, but the Steamrunner is in a unique position in that it is only as "rare" as people are too stubborn to use Steam as a purchasing channel. That will change in time, and the Steamrunner will only become more common.

That said, it's likely that they have some sort of arrangement with Valve.

Valve gets this "exclusive" DLC pack, so it can make a bit of money off hosting a 3rd-party F2P game, and potentially snare STO players into buying games on Steam and buying Zen via Steam.

PWE gets the benefit of having their game on the biggest market in core PC gaming. That gives them a tiny bulwark against bigger games like WoW, Old Republic, and Guild Wars 2, which are all only available on their own channels (Battle.net, Origin/EA, and ArenaNet).

    Conclusion:

There's no reason not to expect that the Steamrunner will eventually make its way onto the C-Store, but for now a number of factors, like balance concerns, historical behavior, and possible legal bindings currently weigh the trend against Cryptic doing this anytime soon.

good analysis there sir very good. I got the Steamrunner myself and she is sooo reliable she is now my main tacs secondary escort (i refuse to ditch my Defiant R for it on my main tac toon) the thing is so versitile and can match the Defiant however she is one of the tankiest escorts out there and a must have to a tac officers shipyard.

Well I'm halfway there on savings, maybe i'l just pick up that excelsior I'v always wanted. I feel like the lack of communication on CWE's part means it will be there for a while.

No doubt it'll be -75% someday.

It gives a 20% reduction in energy damage to shields for about 10 seconds and stops bleed through, this affects all your teammates.

Note, as per tooltip on them: Stops normal bleedthrough, as in only normal fire. Transphasics and the Borg uber-torps cut through your hull all the same with this up.

The ship itself is incredibly ugly - looks very much like a kitbash - but the console is amazing, or at least so it seems to me.

Worth $25 though? No way. Maybe it will go on sale again...

Incredibly ugly or not, I LOVE this ship!

It's now the primary ship of my main toon (which is a TAC). Small but incredibly tough and it puts out A LOT of damage (3 MK XII phaser DHCs and a MK XII Quantum Torp up front / 2 Mk XII Phaser turrets and the Kinetic Cutting beam Aft) . It's replaced the Armitage (though I do miss those Peregrines).

It was also a great buy at $10 from Steam (which was the sale price). Best 10 bucks I've spent in a long time. :)

Yeah, this is the Escort to beat for tankiness, so far the only thing that might beat it in that category is the Fleet version of the Armitage. My Sci is staying with the Vesta, but my Eng is Steamrunner all the way. The Fed Tac I'm leveling will probably go into it once it hits 50 (stalled leveling due to the Repuation System taking up so much time on my level 50 toons).

Yeah, although I had to download STO again through Steam to "trick" it into letting me get the code you put in for the unlock, I've heard there's a way around this but it was no big deal to be honest.

My own feelings on the ship are that it's very capable, nice and tough, and as far as the debate over where the impulse engines go, we never saw them on screen and the one's we did see were low-rez renders intended to be background ships, so any depiction of them will involve some degree of artistic license, just like how the Miranda got a mini deflector atop the torp launcher on the rollbar.

Yeah, I said on the Steam Hub that you would have to cue for download and pause it. Go to your library and find CD-Key on the right hand side under Group page, Store page, DLC, ect. Just click that, get your code, and delete the game from the download cue.

Then go to redeem key on the account page and enter your code. Steamrunner without having to use Steam.
