I've always envied your healer build! Would you mind talking about (your) builds in game with me? I think I need to give my a bit selfish engy healer a new build :P
This is a really good guide Jam0. It's well thought out, put together well, and it's just what someone who wants/needs to heal really has to know. It's so good I really only have one other question for you.

Thanks for this guide. I was wondering if you could expand on this line and what you mean by "assist bind":
"That?s when I use the assist bind and send resist heals to his/her target then continue healing normally."
This bind is really simple. All you do is choose a target (whether they be ally or enemy) and whichever key you choose to be your 'Assist' key, you just hit that key and (gotta get your brain into gear for this one) YOUR target will jump to YOUR current target's, target :P

/bind <key> assist
^ Simple as that...I think
So you are saying that there is a bind to select the enemy team's target?
So you are saying that there is a bind to select the enemy team's target?

/bind <key> assist
I'm not sure what you're asking but I'll just clarify what I think you mean.
You can't select the enemy WHOLE team's target, only individual's targets. And it doesn't have to be an enemy, if you targeted one of your team mates and sent them heals, once you're done, just hit the key you assigned to be your assist key and it will target whoever he's targeting so you can then fire your weapons at them
These abilities in tray 8 are connected to your team mate selecting buttons, the F buttons. Normally, you select yourself by pressing F1 and your first team mate by F2 etc. In my opinion confusing, so I changed it to:
Yourself: Esc
First team mate: F1
Second team mate: F2
Third team mate: F3
Fourth team mate: F4
Its more natural. The 4 team mates together with the F buttons in the right order, and yourself easy accessible by hitting the top left corner button?
So summarized,
spacebar activates abilities in tray 7
F1,F2 F3,F4 , activates abilities in tray 8
escape activates abilities in tray 9
Few notes:
All buttons have also shield distribution. You need to hit the buttons a few times to activate all abilities. This is due to activation delays (usually 0.5 sec). The bind is designed such a way that the order of activation goes from the left to the right (thus tray 7.0, 7.1, 7.2 etc), so order your tray likewise.
Place the bind file in following directory: C:\Users\Public\Games\Cryptic Studios\Star Trek Online\Live (Or same cryptic directory in your program files)
Use following command to activate your bind by typing in your chat window: /bind_load_file healbind.txt
this is a great thread. Surprises me it hasn't gotten more traction coming from a pilot who is one of the best healers in the game. (except for the comment about miracle worker. not sure if that's supposed to be a dig at someone in his fleet who tried to "send" his MW to a team mate )
What about newbs who don't have the all those DOFFs, EC, money you are talking about. I'm not saying, that this guide is bad, quite the contrary, but when someone sees on the beginning that he should get the lockbox ships or C-Store one - this is kinda discouraging, don't you think?
Yeah, I know, ship does not matter (<yoda>or does it, hmm</yoda>), but young ones will not know it. And Star Cruiser is not that bad, even if little outdated

Becoming a good healer is a progressive thing, no one should expect to instantly have all the EC in the world and get/do everything that is mentioned, it takes time, green doffs are fine, normal ships are fine, but when/if the player gets enough EC and is committed to being a healer, then upgrade

Also, the assist bind is ground related.
Most easy and quick way to select a team mate and give heals is adding binds to the team mate selecting F buttons.
Im working on a "improved" version of Hilberts spacebar bind file. Need to check one more thing (probably this weekend) and then Ill post it here.

Download the bind at: http://www.mijnbestand.nl/Bestand-7TASRZYBEPWQ.txt
So, in this ?heal? bind, fill tray 7 with power and offensive abilities you want to cycle.
Tray 8, fill with team heals, like ES, TSS, APD, HE etc
Tray 9, fill with self heals, like evasive, BFI, PH, ramming speed.. but also TT, TSS, APD etc (the team heals)
Here an example: http://img713.imageshack.us/img713/5004/bindstray789.png
