When Season 7 first started hitting Tribble, I was pessimistic. My favorite tanking set (Retro Borg) was getting an unwarranted nerf (and I am STILL unhappy about that >.>), the Reputation system seemed okay, if slow (no one was queuing for anything, so I had no marks for ANYTHING), and the "Season of content" was looking like grind central.
Then Tau Dewa opened up, and now I couldn't be happier. The patrols were fun, the Tholian ships (on your own) are a challenge, and I'll never hurt for Romulan Marks again. There is a TON to do on New Romulus, I could spend 2 hours in the Staging Area alone. I jumped off the pretty bridge and found MORE content... OH WOW. I came within an inch of getting a Nanov ALL THE WAY up the river, because I wasn't sprinting (I didn't know if the Nanov could keep up - it can). There is a BOAT load of new content in that sector block, and I am LOVING it. If there's anything else, it's icing on the cake.
Just one quip... On the Jouret System map, can we at least get to see Jouret IV in the map? Maybe with the crater visible on the planet? I wrote my Fed Liberated Borg Engineer's story as being from there, and it'd be a nerd-gasm-worthy touch.
hey taco, pretty environments on the new romulus. Once you enter a systems space map, those look nice too.
The only thing I'm thinking is a bit odd (and not in your area of responsibility) is the whole observe the wildlife thing. Every animal I observe makes me kill it as soon as I am done observing it. Doesnt seem like something space-hippie starfleet would do. Observe the wildlife, yes. Shoot it immediately thereafter? Not so much.
It reminds me of a gripe about SWToR when it came out. Some of the repetitive quests involved jedi's running around crushing the eggs of some animal. Didnt seem terribly jedi-like behavior.
Beaming to New Romulus as I type this. I'm not sure I like the space look of it. I realize it's a work in progress, but is it's atmosphere getting stripped away? Doesn't seem like a nice place to live. :P

All of the animals you observe you CAN kill. . . but only a few of them will agro on you. It's your choice (most of the time).

Not stripped away, just intense Auroras. You can see them from the ground too.
I for one have enjoyed the new content so far. Looks and feels like its going to be exciting and long lasting. One question though. The Elite Omega Marks aren't listed on the inventory window like it did before the patch tonight and isn't showing how many you have now. Was wondering if that is a glitch or if its been moved? Thanks.

Yeah, I was wondering if they were gonna mention or show the remains of the New Providence colony on Jouret.
I agree it all looks awesome so far, but you are essentially judging a book by its cover. That is, you have not even played it 1 whole day and you are declaring the entire season awesome. Tell us how you feel after a month and then it will actually mean something.

No, it won't be perfect from the start. But this can be the start of some interesting content that can last for a while. It looks awesome at this point. Yes, we need to wait, test, run, and enjoy. Yes, there will be bugs and problems, but there will always be something. But you have to admit at first glance it looks good.
So, Super-Artist-Taco, Jouret planet on Jouret map please?
Forgive me, I have been so wrapped up in the New Romulus ground map I haven't even been to any of our new space maps. Are you saying that there is no planet in the Jouret system? I'm fairly sure LCmdr Miller hooked all those planets up.

Empty space - must be a graphics bug. That, or it's too far away from mission zone... As I type this, I'm flying over to the map...
Planet isn't showing up on system map. Looks like the planet is bugged out. Be nice to see it - Empty space has a lack of reference points. But, this is what Tribble is for - bug testing. Speaking of bug testing, at least once, the Jouret Tholian group was replaced with Orions. Intentional or not, worth noting.

I'm pretty sure I saw one there too. Although there is so much more to do in season 7 i was on there for a few hours possibly 3 or 4 and probally didnt even do 10% of what is available when it releases. It is pretty much more than I thought we would ever see in one release. Great job to everyone at Cryptic for the stuff I have seen and not seen so far LOL
- more grinding (reputation)
- artificial barriers (1d,16h projects)
- more dilithium sinks (embassies, reputation, new dilithium stores)
- laughable rewards for new stuff (tau dewa and new romulus missions)
- smaller rewards for old stuff (STFs)
- increased duty officer exchange cost by the factor of 20
- standard duty officer packs costing 1000 dilithium
- new pointless currencies obtainable in completely different and separate missions (rom marks, omega marks, neural processors)
- adventure zone revolving around scanning and/or collecting things (more useless junk to fill up inventory slots)
- new fleet/team missions focused solely on DPS and/or running/flying around (World of Escorts anyone?)
- brand new STF we've waited 2 years for ending up being a short easy ground mission w-o any space part
Yeah... "awesome"...
Well, I guess it is for casual players, but personally I already feel discouraged from playing even with one character. I can't see myself grinding both reputations with all of my 6 toons (don't really have one I consider "main") AND supporting a fleet starbase and embassy AND saving up on new unlockable stuff...
I guess there's one kind of "awesome" thing about season 7, and that is the Vesta class. But I'll wait for stats and price to be announced before I'll get too enthusiastic.
But you have to admit at first glance it looks good.
This sentence leads me to believe you didnt actually read my post, because my very first sentence said it looks(key word) awesome so far(more key words). But my entire point is that we shouldnt judge something based on a "first glance".

I have never played a super easy MMO, the entire point is to suck you in, entice you to go for a challenge, to work for something.
I agree its seems the entitlement system I mean S7 will just be boring.
Forgive me, I have been so wrapped up in the New Romulus ground map I haven't even been to any of our new space maps. Are you saying that there is no planet in the Jouret system? I'm fairly sure LCmdr Miller hooked all those planets up.
I did make all the system map planets, however there were last minute changes and someone else was assigned this task

Clearly Portal 63 took a fancy to that system and ran off with all the planets, as it's empty besides the orbital installations.
I agree. On that subject:
Helmsman: "Setting a course for Earth at one-quarter impulse."
Captain: "But... "we're in the Gamma Orionis Sector Block..."
Helmsman: "Course plotted to avoid transwarp gate."
Captain: "But this trip will take CENTURIES!"
Helmsman. "Yep! I'm gonna sing the doom song now! Doom do-doom-doom dooooom..."
*7,000 years later, arriving at Earth, only the Helmsman remains alive, and his doom song echoes through the halls of the ship.*
I have to agree from what I've seen overall. I have in fact been trying NOT to try everything out so I still have something to do when S7 hits Holodeck proper.
I am still concerned with the dil sinks, and very concerned with the implications of the changes to DOffing (and the impact it will have on starbases, embassies and reputation); however, in terms of basic content I am liking what I see.
While the planet does look very nice (although more of a Neverwinter cut and paste) I'm not really a fan of what I'm seeing so far.
The reputation system, while a welcome change from the random drops, is just another grind on top of a game that has descended into one long grind. It's basically just another mini starbase at the end of the day.
It is nice to have a large map to play with but there is so little to do there beyond run pointless mini-games often set against timers. To be honest I can't really ever see myself wanting to go there. Defera as a setting is ten times better in my opinion and beats the heck out of spraying insect swarms or leading baby squids to their mother for little in return. It lacks substance and innovation to me and just feels big for the sake of being big and devoid of any real meat content.
It feels stagnant to be honest and while it's not a game breaker for me other than the few added stf missions and the omega rep system I really can't see myself going out of my way to play any of it.
I do understand that it is just a stepping stone to future development but it's not really adding that much to the game right now as a sector.
I'd much rather have seen some decent episode content and more stfs added to the game rather than another dilithium sink.
I did make all the system map planets, however there were last minute changes and someone else was assigned this task
I will look into this. Thanks!!
I think the New Romulus Map was a very nice success. People are hoping other Social maps could get similar treatments.
BTW, hope you take a look at my critique of the Planets in the Tau Dewa thread. I have some canonical concerns with their locations. Especially with the Archer System, with it using the location from the Star Charts, but in Enterprise (which came after the map was created) said the system was 31 Light Years from Earth, which puts it in the Regulus Sector.

Be liking it more if Retro Set wasn't getting nerfed, but that's not your department. To your credit, New Romulus is gorgeous.

Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.

A better question might be, what didn't have a dilithium tax appended to it? (and yes stf gear now costs $$)
It's "The Magnetic Void" from Battlestar Galactica.
thats poor that is like when u think we can only refine 8k per day (8.5k with 800day vet)and after u build your rep WITH dilithium is it worth it???
