New Chimera class heavy destroyer

Okay, time to discuss the builds for the new Chimera class heavy Destroyer.

There are going to be lots of STO vets flying these things soon with Cryptic giving instant access to all vet perks to all LTS holders from day one.

I welcome any suggestions for an Engy flying one of these new toys.

I'm planning on using the latest weapons from the newest lockboxes along with the time-ship consoles from the Lobi store.

The blog post dated Oct 9th says the ship will be available to LTS "tomorrow" after scheduled maintenance, so expect the ship to be available Wed Oct 10th.

Although, usually updates are on Thursday and it wouldn't be the first time a Cryptic spokesperson got the dates mixed up, so I wouldn't be surprised if its not actually available until Oct 11th.

Planning to use the same build as my Akira Class T5 I currently fly:

MK XII Borg Antiproton DHC x2, 1 MK XII Borg QTorp Launcher, 1 MK XII Borg Antiproton DC

3 MK XII Borg Antiproton turrets

MK XII MACO Shield and Deflector, Borg Engine

Subspace Field Modulator & Red Matter Capacitor

    Eng Consoles:
Borg Console, MK XII Blue Neutronium armor, Tachyokinetic Converter

    Tac Consoles:
MK XII Blue Antiproton Mag Regulators

    Sci Consoles:
MK XII Blue Shield Emitters, MK XII Blue Shield Regen

The final BOFF assignments, I'll see.

What is phased armor? I'm not familiar with this device and it doesn't appear to be listed on stowiki.org.

same as the fleet patrol escort i guess. ltcmd tac, and the universal ensign switching between sci and engi.

to accomodate the new console and facing only 9 consoles, i think the field generator and the resi console will be gone. I will also need a RCS console to make it turn faster...so there is not much left .

4 phaser consoles in tac slots
special device, rcs, point defence system in engi slots
assimilated console and field generator in sci slots

i think phased armor is that device from one of the devidian missions...gives resi and def for 15 sec
    Go pro or go home

Once the maint is over and I can grab it I'll hop over to tts and run some tests my self compare it against the tac oddy keeping my beam build intact see if its worth the jump over dps wise. (my gut instinct thou is telling me the tac oddy is better overall vs the chimera; same for the kdf side).

Actually no I'm testing the ship not the weapons hence why I'm keeping the build the same to see how much difference there is between them; plus that in turn saves me wasting time on farming out new gear if I choose not to use it after.

Its another Fleet escort, just one that came from Cybertron.

How to fight it? Stay out of the front arc!! If you're an FAE, grab him. If you're a HEC, Danube him.

If you're in the front arc? Impulse Cap Cell outta there. You should have that console mounted ever since timeship craziness hit the Prime universe...

Doesn't help. It has 360 degree multi-target nigh-on aimbot accurate phaser lance array. It can also strip your shields entirely and make it it's own. This is not 'just another fleet escort'. Treat it at minimum as dangerous as a time ship/D'kora.

Oh look, another OP escort. Why am I not surprised? Granted it's a 1k day vet award. But still. This borders on just obscene.
It is said the best weapon is one that is never fired. I disagree. The best weapon is one you only have to fire... once. B)

Looks nice, like others i will equip it as per my fleet patrol escort. Need to play around with the consoles though. I just went lifetime. I have paying subs for a few months and enjoying the game so what the hell, get it all now. I like the look of it and looking forward to seeing how the consoles work.

This build is designed with an Engineer Captain in mind, but I believe it should also be viable for Tactical Captains without much change.

Due to RL issues, I won't be able to try the ship out for another day or so, so right now this is all theory. All critique & ideas are appreciated! Would love to hear what other Captains think on this one!

    Chimera Build Design Goals:
    • Overall, use the ship for it's unique features.
    • Be able to switch between "Tank" & "Damage" modes easily.
    • Use only the LtC Universal slot for swapping.
    • Function adequately if need arises to switch to a mode that doesn't match LtC.
    • Enjoy Cannons

    And now, the build:

    Fore Weapons
    1x Photon Torpedo
    1x Phaser Dual Beam Bank
    1x Phaser Dual Heavy Cannons
    1x Phaser Quad Cannons

    Aft Weapons
    1x Phaser Beam Array
    2x Phaser Turret

    Ship
    MACO Deflector
    Borg Engine
    MACO Shield

    Devices
    Engine Battery
    Subspace Field Modulator
    Red Matter Capacitor

    Engineering Consoles
    1x Monotanium Alloy
    1x Neutronium Alloy
    1x RCS Accelerator

    Science Consoles
    1x Chimera Console
    1x Field Gen

    Tactical Consoles
    1x Borg Console
    3x Phaser Relay

    Core Officers
    Com Tac: BFAW1, TS2, APO1, APD3
    Lt Eng: EPtS1, EPtW2
    Lt Sci: TSS1, HE2
    Ens Tac: TT1

    Chimera Officers
    LtC Tac: BO1, CSV1, TS3
    LtC Eng: EPtS1, RSP1, AtSIF2

    Duty Officers
    1x Warp Core Engineer
    1x Damage Control Engineer
    1x Tholian Warfare Specialist
2x Conn Officer - Tac Team

This versus a 'fleet escort' (fleet version of the blockade)
I've been using the fleet escort ever since I got to VA back in july of the first year (the original and then the fleet version). I can tank (I can equal the damage output of nearly any other escort in healing), plus have the ability to do a massive alpha strike. I'm wondering how the fleet escort stacks up versus this. I noticed the 0.9 shield modifier vs the FE's 0.99, but since the servers are down, can't look at anything else.

What would you guys suggest? Change to this or keep my shiny FE?

The Chimera is a good ship that performs en par with the other escorts and the BO slots easily replaces the older T5 ships with basically a Universal Ensign slot to choose what we want as an Escort. Or more of a Cruiser format with higher survivability with either a LTC Engineering or Science Slot.

The only things I do NOT like is that I wish they did something about that huge Guppy Mouth with Vektor's original design. It's the one aspect I always hated.

Second, having a mix of Blue and Red Impulse Engines? Make up your mind designers? Either both red or both blue.

And that Transformation? I honestly HATE it, for now on I am going to call it "Hamburger Mode", because of those ridiculous gold bumpers. When I heard about transformations, I was thinking you have something like Photon Launchers poping out of the saucer and you got a revealing of another phaser bank. But this? /facepalm

I have to admit, it looks silly and uncannon. Phaser banks don't look like that. Its just saying 'HEY THIS IS WHERE MY BIG GUNS ARE, TARGET ME HERE, I EVEN PUT A GOLD STRIPE ON THEM'. Mind, the KDF version looks even more stupid. You wouldn't have a big block of green to fire something from.

Do not forget, Innate 15% accuracy bonus with the attack mode. That is in my opinion a huge plus.

the bumpers and the big green cylanders on klink think of it like this a marriage of the phaser lance with a beam array and the reasomn it looks so huge is because its not on a big TRIBBLE galaxy but a smaller ship around the size of a large escort . i have been waiting for a good reason to buy lifetime member ship and this just might be it. i am very excited about universal bo slots more than anything. now if only my photon point defense module was able to be mounted on it sigh.

FYI, Phaser Lotus and Tachyon Inversion Beam each have a 5 minute cool down. You can switch between modes while one ability is on cool down and use the other ability within about 20 seconds (it takes about 20 seconds to 'transform'). EDIT: Going to Tactical Mode is essentially instant (haven't tried in combat, so I'm not sure if it affects weapons), but there's a 20 second cool down after to change back into Defense Mode.

STOwiki.org states that the Tactical Mode gets +10 to weapon power, but the official site post states it's only +5. I will double check next time I'm in game. EDIT: Checked in game - Tactical Mode does in fact receive +5 to weapon power, and Defense Mode receives +5 to auxiliary.

    Other fun facts:

Adding +30 to my 99 in Starship Targeting Systems sent my accuracy from 22.7 to 27.3. No change in Critical Chance or Severity.

In defense mode, with 84 already in Starship Shield Systems upped my shields from 7634 to 8188 (VA, MACO Mk XII, no field generators).

Like the Dreadnought's Spinal Phaser Lance, the Phaser Lotus is improved by Tactical Phaser Relay Consoles.

Just got my Fed vet ship... I didn't use the DTS as I swapped it out with the Tachyokinetic Console instead as it's 1 part RCS console & 1 part Borg console.

I decided on this BOFF layout since I have a uni Lt. Cmd. slot:

    Cmd Tac:
    TT1, HYT2, CRF2, APB3

    Lt. Eng:
    ET 1, DEM 1

    Ens Eng:
    EPtS1

    Lt. Cmd. Sci:
    ST1, HE2, GW1

    Lt. Sci:
    TSS1, TB2

Yeah, but the D'Kora doesn't have the 'I win' modes that the 'I-Win' class has.
And the fact that you think those modes will be "I-win" is ridiculous. Cryptic has never operated that way and they're not about to start now. Phaser/disruptor blossom won't be a "kill everything" button. It'll be marginally good and have a long cooldown. It won't make you uber.

With that being the case, it would seem that going all phaser weapons would be the best bet, in order to maximize console usefulness. Beyond that, anyone have any build-outs on this yet? My VA is a Tac officer, so I'm thinking about mounting cannons, especially since the turn rate isn't abhorrent, but I'd like some ideas about what other consoles I should put into this thing to draw out its tactical advantages.

I'm on Anti-Proton weapons. I skipped using the DTS console and grabbed from the Lobi Store the Tachyokinetic Console due to it being an RCS console/Borg Console. It sucks that it's 1 console slot short of a Fleet ship. Maybe it's for the best... this thing can blow up stuff nicely with a proper setup.

MK XII Borg Antiproton DHC x2, 1 MK XII Borg QTorp Launcher, 1 MK XII Borg Antiproton DC

3 MK XII Borg Antiproton turrets

MK XII MACO Shield & Deflector, Borg Engine

Subspace Field Modulator, Red Matter Capacitor, Anything else (Aux Battery for GW/HE)

    Eng Consoles:
Borg Console, MK XII Blue Neutronium armor, Tachyokinetic Converter

    Tac Consoles:
MK XII Blue Antiproton Mag Regulators x4

    Sci Consoles:
MK XII Blue Shield Emitters, MK XII Blue Shield Regen

Simple (possibly stupid) follow-up question: what would be the advantage of this ship without the DTS console, compared to, say, an non-fleet MVAM escort? Certainly, you have the universal BOff slots, and slightly better hull at teh cost of some turn, but if I slot this the same way I do my Prometheus, is there any discernible advantage?

I went all Escort for mine:
Fore: Quad Phaser Cannons, 2x Fleet Adv. DHC [Acc], Fleet Adv. Photon Torp.
Aft: 3x Fleet Adv Phaser Turrets [Acc]

Borg Def, Omege Engines and Shields

Device: Weapons Battery (Lotus really drains weapons power), Subspace Field Modulator, Red Matter Cap.

Engi Consoles: Dynamic Tac., Borg, Armor of choice
    Sci Consoles: 2x Field Generators
    Tac: 4x Phaser Relay

Universal Lt.Cmdr. Tac Team, Scatter Volley, APO
    Universal Ensign: Tac Team
Tactical Cmdr. Torp Spread, HYT, APO, Rapid Fire
Eng. Lt. Engi Team, Revers Shield Polarity
    Sci. Lt. Hazard Team, TTS

The ship handles like a champ. Lotus is awesome, but damning on power hence the batteries. Regeneration mode is great, love switching to it in the middle of a fight and watching my hull and shields go up and enemy shields go down.
