We still need one more moderator. Please PM me if you're willing to volunteer for this duty. Please be aware that as a moderator you are not permitted to participate as a PvPer, to maintain neutrality.

Important Note: the tournament has been delayed for one week due to Cryptic's new patch. Hopefully by that time all participants will be able to get a handle on the new mechanics.

In the meantime, I will be hosting a practice tournament this weekend (Saturday, 10/13). No prizes, unfortunately, but you can get some practice in against your opponents, and get some fun pew-pew as well.

Moderators
@Alecto has offered to moderate this event.

Voice Chat
PaxOttomana from Turkish RP Heroes has offered their international PVP Teamspeak for this event. Please visit internationalpvp.typefrag.com:62245 when the tournament starts and we can get you set up.

Date and Time of Tournament
Note: The host (me, Hunter@ProjectOctober) is in Eastern Standard Time, just for reference.
The tournament has been postponed to Saturday, October 20th due to the recent patch. Time is to be determined, but I'm leaning toward 1:00PM, Eastern Standard Time.

Sign Up Form
If you want to sign up, please fill out the following form and post it in reply to this thread, and I will add you to the list:

Team <name>: - this will be your team's name. This is just a formality, to make it easier on me :), so that I don't have to refer to you as "Naz and Jorf and ...". If you are not a fleeted team that's OK, that's what the next part's for, but you still need a team name, like "Pax's Team".

Team Members: - List the @handles of the members that will form your team. Please indicate which member of the team will serve as the team's leader (for organizational purposes).

Pledges: - Please indicate any pledged amounts of EC (if any). This is not a requirement, but if any participant would like to pledge some EC to the prize money, please indicate here the @handle of that participant and the amount of EC pledged.

Time Zones & Dates: - Please indicate here the best dates and times that your team can play. If possible, list several, because I'm going to be using this to pin down a time to host this thing.

Rules of the Tournament
Ban List: The following Duty Officers and Consoles are banned as Tier 1. No captain participating in this tournament is permitted to carry any number of these.
- Subnucleonic Beam Duty Officer
- Siphon Drones
- Aceton Assimilator
- Graviton Pulse

Question: What happened to "Tier 1" and "Tier 2"?
Answer: Too confusing and difficult to enforce. I've reduced it to just a single list of banned items.

Time Limit: In the interest of keeping this tournament from being one 8 hour snorefest after another, I'm imposing a time limit on the matches. If a match goes beyond 45 minutes (this is subject to change, you guys tell me what you think is fair), the team with the highest score wins. If the teams are tied, then the match goes into sudden-death overtime (next kill wins).

NOTE: each participant gets a say in the tournament rules. I am not interested in dictating these rules; I believe for everyone to have fun, they should have a voice in what rules they will be fighting under. These rules are subject to change until 48 hours before the tournament, at which point they will not be changed further.

    @amidoinitright or @nixtux for organization.

    @nixtux
    @chaplin_charlie2011
    @amidoinitright
    @spacepenguin121
    @koopa27

    Pledges: TBA

    Times seem fairly flexible. The roster may change as RL comes first.

    Going to add so notes for rules here instead of making a new post.

    1: I'd agree with Jorf and Min regarding Grav pulse.
    2: Teams should be limited to one carrier or one carrier producing NPCs. it is PVP, afterall, and not PvPvE. Not sure on the current change to NPCs and phaser proc rate, but regardless, a screen with massive NPCs overshadowing the opposing team isn't really fun.
    3: Thoughts on tric mines?
    4: Team batts/jevonite (sp)

    Hmmm, I'd say that GPG is quite a bit worse than AMS or Leech, but that's just me.

    Also, you may as well add me to that list of Pandas who will be playing. In-game handle, @bmr1580

    No class restrictions?
    Cross faction OK?

    @havam

    Correct. No class restrictions, and cross-faction is perfectly fine. However, certain consoles and duty officers will be off-limits for the tournament (which ones, specifically, is still to be determined, but the ones hammered out so far are up on the page).

    Glad to have you join us!

    My Tac is in SVR and I'd be honored to take the field with or against the people already listed in this thread. I can bring any class, though I think my Eng is actually in Xtreme, but I haven't logged into him in forever. I'm on 9p-2a Eastern if that works for trying to practice.

    Is there a time of day we're leaning towards yet for the actual tournament?

    If I can't get with a real team then I'll just go into DS9 and post up in zone chat that I'm putting together a team for The Cure Normal and we'll join. Failing that I'll head to Drozana and say I need 4 people to team up to come to my bridge for RP.

    What's the format for the competition? 5v5 Arena? Variable numbers based on who shows up?

    Can we have more people on our roster than we actually bring to the fight, based on availability at the time of the actual fight?

    Why is Plasmonic Leech even on the list for restricted items?

    It's drain is not all that powerful, against any ship with Power Insulator ranks.
    It's biggest boon is bonus power. Which you get fedside via Maco Shield.

    I suggest you add Maco Shield to the list of Tier one items if you're going to ban Plasmonic Leech.

    AMS is more problematic than leech is by far as well.

    Then you may as well ban KHG too, as they are arguably as good or better than maco ;)

    That being said, I don't care too much if plasmonic leech is allowed or not. I would rather not have it in, but it wouldn't be the end of the world either way.

    Nothing is better than a Resilient cap3, that has +10 SDR passive and +10 power levels anytime it's shot at. Nothing in a Shield anyway.

    For the way people currently play, definitely, but I'm thinking several steps ahead of that. I'm also thinking of the two piece KHG bonus with a full kinetic Wells build.

    TRIBBLE the wells :P

    2 KHG is going to lose quite abit of durability. Mind you with as broken as the Wells and the Destroyer both are, it won't matter anyway.

    Even down the line though the Maco is the superior shield. Especially once you start factoring in Bleed Builds. Like full on tranny torp Wells builds :P Every bit of Effective HDR will be a huge boon at that point. Resilient shields are why my Vorcha exists without hull heals and can still go toe to toe with DEM builds and trans torps. That effective bonus 50 percent HDR as long as the shield is up is just too good to pass up. (versus only 25 percent bonus HDR with a non resilient shield)

    I never put my Res Cap 3 away on my Vorcha specifically because of the sheer amount of difference in bleed through damage. And it's proven every bit as tough as any ship especially in it's weight class that even runs KHG shields because of the sheer power of Resilients. If I had a Maco on my klink ship I'd be having an TRIBBLE everytime I got shot at. (where as now I only have an TRIBBLE every time I kill someone in my vorcha ;) )

    I've been running Resilients for the last two and a half years squarely because of that. As long as I can keep my shields going, it takes very minimal effort to keep my hulls going.

    im the proud new owner of a fleet resistant shield on my vorcha, ended up getting the one that have 15 resists to phaser, polaron and tetryon weapons, you know the most common and/or dangerous? seemed a bit more useful then an extra 10 regeneration. LOVE it so far, i might even be able to drop a hull heal and put EWP on it after all.

    In answer to your questions: yes, you can have more than 5 on your team, but the excess of 5 will be your reserve. This will be a 5v5 so you will have to decide at tournament time who will actually be on your roster, or if you will rotate.

    Like I said, most of the "banned" items will be up for consideration, this is not a hard-and-fast list (yet). I will try to take all opinions into consideration, and I will adjust the ban-list accordingly.

    Important Note: I will likely be changing the format of the ban-list shortly to just be a straight-up "these things are banned", and remove the tier system. As interesting as the tier system is, I've been told (and I agree) that enforcing it would be almost impossible.

    Rather than withdraw from the tournament, i strongly suggest that the tournament be postponed until all parties fully understand the implications of these system changes.

    It would also afford the organiser more timeto get the relevant infrastructure for the tournament in place rather than being rushed into it.

    I personally want this to become a community diarised event so i on behalf of the Pandas really want it to succeed.

    Agreed, Naz. I'm postponing the tournament until we can get a handle on this patch. *sigh* Cryptic, why do you do this to us?

    kalecto, thank you for your kind offer. Please respond with your @handle when you can so I can add your name to the mod list. Hopefully, you'll still be available the week after, as due to Cryptic's wonderful patch schedule I am going to have to postpone it one more week.

    Borticus, if you guys are releasing another patch on the week of the 20th, please let us know :rolleyes:.

    Havam, please don't withdraw :(. I know the patch sucks, but this event could still be fun! I'll give everybody one more week to prepare, so please consider staying in!

    Perhaps it might be a good idea for the teams to get together regardless and still setup some matches for some fun pew pew? Test/brainstorm amongst each other and at least get some good pew pew in since we've all cleared our schedule anyway.

    That's more the point of these events over showing who has the biggest swinging ****.

    I don't have a problem with hosting a practice tournament. I don't have the resources to offer any sort of prize for winning this, though, so it'll just be, as you say, fun pew pew.

    Anybody who wants to join in is free to do so. This is completely casual, although I'd recommend we still follow the rules of the tournament so as to make the practice meaningful, but I'm open to lifting restrictions if enough people request it.

    These patch notes are big time changes. I agree, we should postpone.

    It will also give October more time to organize his tournament to a point it will be a very smooth event.
