Unfortunately im in the crowd that did not get a tholan ship and after spending 125.00 in keys as well. There are people with 2 or 3 of them ships but unfortunely I didnt have the luck. I cant belive i spent that much trying but I did. I do however have a whole fleet of star cruisers 11 of them that dont even come close to the price of a tholan ship. So bitter and not buying the wallet is closed if its not a sure thing im not going to get it.
Secondly this game says i joined june of 2012. Bump something wrong ive was in beta and got the game just after beta.
Just remember, when it comes to gambling the house always wins.
And yeah, we all have that issue since cryptic world PWE'd the forums, we're all newbies now apparently. It should still have your subscribed days in your account page though.
I convert my daily dilithium into zen, and buy key packs. I also used two months of my stipend toward this end.
In all, I've opened 140 lockboxes, as of this morning. Aside from the Lobi you get with each box, I also received:
-A ton of mirror ships (the result of which is much more lucrative if you open them on your KDF character, as the Mirror Vor'Cha is worth almost 800k right now). I'm not selling them until later, though, once they go up in price.
-A few purple doffs, which is always welcome, especially when they improve my STF damage output (space warfare specialists vs. Borg).
-4.6 metric buttloads of duty officer mini packs, which are great for the starbase grind, as well as converting the keepers to higher-quality doffs later.
-A bunch of Phased Tetryon weapons and cross-faction console packs that I've sold for about 20 million or so, combined.
-I wasn't counting on this, but I also picked up two Orb Weavers.
============================================
In addition to that, I ended up with a huge pile of Lobi. I spent it on:
-One upgraded Crystalline ground set.
-One Widow fighter (ship, not pet).
-One Recluse carrier
...and I have a bunch left over for the next lockbox set, so long as it's as good as this one.
============================================
My point in saying this is to point out that they're not as terrible as they sound, and the only real money I spent on these was a 20-dollar zen card thingy that someone gave me a while back for doing some quick work on his car. I guess you could say I spent another 1,000 zen, since I bought my lifetime sub before the game was ever released, and used two months of my stipend to help with the keys...but I didn't specifically spend money on the zen in this case. So, out of 140 boxes, 110 were opened with dilithium (a lot of which was saved up during the Ferengi lockbox era, since I didn't want any of the stuff they had in there).
Even if I hadn't lucked out and got either one of those Orb Weavers, I still ended up with a rather substantial mountain of Energy Credits, purple doffs, extra doffs in general, a carrier, a fighter, a rather cool ground set, and a Mirror Vor'Cha that I actually ended up using.
My advice: Don't open lockboxes if all you want is the big reward; it isn't likely to drop, and you're just going to end up feeling frustrated...especially if you buy your lockboxes with real money. This lockbox is rather nice, in my opinion; by comparison, I opened 50 Cardassian lockboxes (plus two gold ones), and never got anything that was worth its weight in dog log. It was still free, but those things were a waste of dilithium, unlike the new boxes.
Anyway, this is just my view on it, but I have to say, I'm rather pleased with my free stuff, even if you exclude the Orb Weavers.
nex time sell the keys on the Exchange and buy the ships off the Exchange with the EC you make from the keys
Also, this. If you want the big ship reward, THIS is what you do with the keys. Or, buy Fleet Ship Modules and sell those (they go for just shy of 5m each).
Yeah, I could have sworn the Orb Weaver was as low as 45Mil a few weeks ago. Selling the keys for EC make so much more sense.
It still is; if I were to venture a guess, it'll probably stay there until the end (or near the end) of the Tholian lockbox drops. Sell 35 keys and you've got enough EC for one.
I like to play the gamble from time to time but a 10-key pack is my limit. I still get a little excited when I win something and didn't have to pay for it on the exchange.
I might buy some here and there by converting Dilithium to Zen but typically, if I don't get the ship I want within 10 tries, I count my losses and move on. There hasn't been a lockbox ship yet that I've been dying to get. There will be other lockboxes, other ships. At least I usually get some cool consoles out of it like the Vent Theta, Subspace Jump etc.
If the next Lockbox event has the Reman Scimitar, however, that is something else entirely. 8-)
i jumped on the Jem Hadar ship, just could not resist because i actually had made a Jem'Hadar alien char before and 500 mil EC was just out of reach.
the Galor and D'Kora i got for EC, was a bit of work to get the EC but i got there.
the D'Kora wanted also to have the Lobi Store Set... i hated it but i opened a bunch of LockBoxes for it and got a lot a useless stuff but i managed to get enough Lobi for the full Set, without paying my own $ in time.
The Tholian Boxes i skipped... those ships are all SCI heavy... i hate SCI abilities...
also those aren't STAR TREK ships, those are CRYPTIC made ships. Sorry Canon TRIBBLE, D'Kora Galor and Jem Bug were all on TV, the only Tholian Ship on TV was the small shuttle one, the big ones are all non-canon, therefore i don't give a ****.
i don't care for the made up sword either...
no interesting clothing options this time... thank god, i hate that they are PER CHARACTER
i bought a few Tetryon Weapons on the exchange (bound to the wrong char now...) but they aren't any better than anything else... so whatever, not even visually different from Tetryon Weapons.
the only thing i've got myself were 11 packs of the 6 Tholian Warfare Specialist DOffs for all my 11 Characters, ended up only using the Borg ones for STFs and maybe later the anti Tholian ones for Nukara, but you just can't slot them for the Fleetmark missions, not enough time for this kind of micromanagement with random enemy groups.
...anyway i noticed i don't want the Tholian ships AFTER i got the EC for it together, now i'm waiting for the next Box, i hope to god it isn't the Wells Class, that would be another SCI ship i would probably want to skip.
my opinion: no the Tholian Boxes was NOT better.
only thing about the Tholian Boxes that was better was that it did not drop 10 times per mission = less littering of the game
Unfortunately im in the crowd that did not get a tholan ship and after spending 125.00 in keys as well. There are people with 2 or 3 of them ships but unfortunely I didnt have the luck. First the Winter Box, then the Ferengi Lock Box, Then The Cardassian Box and now the Tholian Box, and compared to some, you were cheap. Some spend thousands. Yes I said thousands.
Welcome to the world of the lottery. Would you be this sore if you spent 125 bucks on your state lottery not to win the millions? Guess what? Same thing, only it's a Tholian lockbox... Deal with it. People have been complaining on here since lock boxes came out and Pakled World don't listen to us because people like you keep forking out the dosh to buy keys in the hopes of wining a ship (and believe me those odds are really slim)
You got taken, you were had, and guess what?? There will be another lock box and people like you will fork out the money again and this conversation will happen again. And after that will be another lock box. So yeah , lets not break the cycle, lets keep this BS rolling,

i have sworn off lock boxes, i do not think they are appropriate for a game rated teen, however i do believe these prizes should be in the zen store for a reasonable price, i have to admit i picked up a mirror ship on the exchange for 2,000 so i bought it.

I boycott lockboxes.
I still LOL when i see a bug ship in space (first of the lock box ships)
I make all lockbox ships my primary target.
People that buy keys encourage Cryptic/PW to continue this behaviour.
I blame those that buy keys, more than Cryptic/PW for the lockboxes still being here.
Coding new features for the game = More lockboxes and C-store items.
Adding new art assets to the game = More lockboxes and C-store items.
Guess, because I disgree with a 'pick me, pick me' mod, I'll get an infaction... oh well.
You think someone at Cryptic wiggled their nose and Fleetbase projects just appeared? Or the DOFF system? Or Shooter Mode? Or the Difficulty Slider? Or the Foundry? Or dozens of other things you take for granted every day?
There's no doubt that STO's a FTP game, so there's going to be lots of things to buy, but we get a lot of things for free too. We very quickly forget about Calender Events, Deferi Invasion, Red Alerts, Numara, Dilithium Mining, etc, etc, etc.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
1) Coding new features for the game.
2) Keeping the servers running.
3) Adding new art assets to the game.
That's what subs were for too, and now its lock boxes... frankly with the overwhelmingly disappointing (for me at least, YMMV) S6 I very much doubt numbers 1 and 3 are happening much.
Cryptic has been strictly in my "seeing is believing" category for a while now.

I thought that was what our subscription paid for, and micro transactions were for the extras, it would seem as if adding content, fixing bugs, and everything else like is extra, right behind making new ships and sell me items to run through the same old boring content.
F2P.....is what i predicted it would be for the subscriber...a nightmare we have heavily invested in since before launch.

What subscription are you paying? You bought your LTS pre-launch for $240.00, just like I did. You effectively stopped being a Subscriber after month 16, just like I did. At that point you no-longer earned Cryptic any money as a Subscriber. At that point you became a FTP C-Store buyer - even before the game officially went FTP - because that's the only way Cryptic earned any money out of you after month 16.
Your issue is that you paid $240.00 once and you think that makes you more valuable then anyone else in the game - even more valuable then the people who are coming up on 1,000 days who have been paying $15.00 per month for over 30 months. You're not more valuable. From a business perspective LTSers are dead weight, so they really should stop acting like they're the game's prima donnas, IMO.

I bought the LTS, multiple box and digital copies, and have supported this title via the c- store, i refuse to pay high prices, and maintained a monthy at one time also. When you prelaunch invest you are not dead weight, you are an investor, that is sold on the advertisement. That is the deal, we blindly give money on the promise of what the game has to offer us. We are the most loyal subscriber base in my opinion, we are not prima donnas, we are the investors that helped launch sto, so we care more than most where it goes......
But not bugfixing. Cryptic frowns upon THAT type of behavior.
Yup.
I've limited myself to one or two keys per round of boxes. But I don't mind them so long as they keep the STO lights on. I just wish they would polish more. It's the little things that spoil the fantasy when playing.
