Qapla' fellow warriors!,

It gives me great pleasure to announce that Priority One will be hosting a question and answer event with the devs that is focused on the KDF.

The purpose of this thread is to gather questions for the event.

As many of you know, the last few weeks in the KDF forums have been lively and we want to capture some of that liveliness in our questions to the devs. I hope that you will comb through recent KDF threads to find great questions, either your own or those of others. Just make sure to give credit where credit is due.

Important Guideline:

- Keep the anger to a minimum. I know we are the KDF and that diplomacy is not our strong point, but in this case, the probability that your question will be selected is directly linked to your ability to formulate it in a civil, even-handed manner. This does not mean that your questions cannot be critical, only that they need to be civil.

If one of your questions is selected, you will, of course, be given credit. A certain level of editorial privilege, however, will be retained by Priority One.

This is a great opportunity for us to provide direct feedback to our developers. Please take advantage of this event.

To victory!

You said questions, so I assume we may submit several either by editing in later or more posts.

My first would have to be.
When will we see a complete faction for the empire? Starting at level 1. With a full set of missions(exclusive or shared) where the shared missions do not read like the Klingon empire fighting the mirror universe Fed pretending to be Feds. (I speak of the dialog still being from the Orions or whatever)

When will they have a more robust set of uniforms and off duty outfits included? (yes, like the feds came with. hangs head)

Will the empire see a larger fleet to select from while ranking?

Will the empire ever have a true science vessel to call their own?

What will be the next unique piece of KDF mission content? And will it be connected to Season 7?

What's the status on making more KDF ship designs, be they Klingon or non-Klingon?

When will more customization options (character and ship) be available? And can we have a future Season exclusively develop the KDF?

Will we see "Species Flavored' content for the faction that expands on the new additions to the Empire. The Gorn, Nausicaans, Lethians, Fearasans and the ever popular Orions.

Will we see these races better represented in the High Council?

Will there be any social zones for these species similar to Andor, Vulcan, and Bajor?

Will we see more costume options in the future, Armor graphics, Kit graphics, our own flight suits!

When will the full scale invasion of the Romulan Empire begin?

new fed ship new fed uniform new fed shuttle new ship uniform ship ship.

and what do the kdf get.... nothing.

how about at least trying to even things out

(fed ship kdf ship fed uniform kdf unform.)

i got money to spend and points yet where is the stuff to buy????

ps. i tried to get a freind to play sto and he gave up becuase he couldnt play kdf he had to lvl up a fed first he isnt a trek fan but plays lots of game and quit sto after he found out that he couldnt play with his firend in game til he lvled up.

maybe its time to let kdf be selected from new account even if the kdf doesnt start at lvl 1.

I have some I was saving for the next Ask Cryptic, I missed the last one. So here they are:

KDF Unifroms, there have been a huge request by both factions for more KDF uniforms, the Federation racing unifroms on the forums is very unpopular, going by the thread linked to the blog post about their release. Is there going to be a change in the near future with the KDF getting some much needed uniforms? Also will there be a change to allow more cross species uniforms including the currently available ones? Will errors on the existing ones be fixed, including the KDF Academy uniform, the only c-store costume we have currently?

Will the NPC KDF ships seen in the Federation campaign make it into the dilithium/requesition fleet line up for KDF players to have some more variety when levelling and also some possible kitbash options for their species (Gorn, Orion etc) c-store unlocks?

Will there ever be a 100 day KDF vet reward item to go with the Federation one?

For many of us, the KDF is the only thing keeping us in the game, putting money into the game, yet the lack of development and c-store releases is a missed opportunity for Cryptic and PWE to capitalise on and make money. Not to mention to please your customers, who are screaming for things to buy and bring something new to their beloved faction. Will there be a shift here to capitalise on this untapped market, bring in some new items like costumes, bundles and ships? If not why not?

The Varanus, Kar'Fi and B'rel Retrofit, 3 KDF ships that could qualify for a fleet ship and give KDF a discount. Why were these not added? Can they be added to give KDF players the discount option? Also as an alternative for those ships who do not qualify (Excelsior, Guramba etc) could it not be a requirement that a player would need the c-store versions to get the fleet version?

I have others but they aren't really KDF focused, or KDF specific so I'll leave those out.

I'll apologize if some of these seem harsh or rude, but I really would like to understand the current mentality towards the Klingon side of this game.

How do you expect the Klingon population to grow when you give players more and more incentives to play on the Federation side?

From having a completed storyline, that allows player to begin only as a Fed, more PvE missions, and ever increasing C-store items, seems like one side almost has it all.

Will we ever see another exclusive Klingon c-store ship?

I know comments have been made about the economic viability to do so.

Why not improve PvP and tap into the faction vs faction gameplay style that could attract a new market of players to this game?

This seems like a huge unexploited resource in this game, pvp right now offers little to no rewards.

Do you believe the game can continue to move forward by only releasing cross factional endgame PvE grind style missions?

Between the STF's and the fleet missions, seems like we have plenty to choose from, maybe I'm wrong and people want more missions and rewards to grind. The other problem I see, is that this offers no difference in end game play style between the two factions, which seems like less of an incentive to play another faction. So, maybe I should ask will we see more end game missions which are faction exclusive?

Is this game viable without the Klingon playerbase?

I ask this as a serious question to understand exactly where Klingons stand. If the answer is no, then I have to ask why do you conitnue to ignore us?

Is there a particular reason that the KDF are often portrayed as amoral sociopaths?

Given how warrior societies in the past have been able to function without coming across as criminals when seen from the inside, and how Federation only players perceive the KDF in a negative light because of many of the DOFF and player missions, would it not be better to take the cue from The Next Generation and weave in some of the more positive aspects of warrior cultures like the American Indians, Samurai and Sikhs, for example?

Even the Vikings and the Mongols had redeeming values once you got past the historical propaganda.

Is the long term plan to converge KDF and Fed or to focus on the uniqueness of each? It seems that the recent trend is to bring them closer together, in what looks similar to a corporate buyout. Is there a longterm future for a unique KDF faction?

Something which bugged me when I noticed it was missing was the Voodieh class cruiser from the Anti-time future in TNG All Good Things. The IKC Chang and IKC Fek'lhr fought the Pasteur and Future Enterprise.
The Pasteur got made (Olympic class)
The future Enterprise got made (Dreadnought cruiser/Galaxy X)
No love for the KDF on this? It's a nastier, possibly bigger, cousin to the Negh'Var so I was surprised not to see it at tier 5, or even as a Z-store purchase like the Galaxy X.
Is there any chance of seeing this in game in Season 7 (or sooner)? I understand the bigger need for more ships KDF-side in general but this ship has actual canon support and would, I think, create a true dreadnought for our side.
    Thanks for reading.

are there any intentions to keep unique features to the KDF. Feds now have carriers, All we have left is the BoP and in the raptr QnA you hinted at that coming to the feds as well.

Since the KDF is an unlock, we need something unique to give an incentive for the switch .Can we get something that the feds don't? Otherwise, where are our 5 tac console raptors, and where are our sci ships.

How to you intend to give a unique gameplay experience to players if you give progressively all the KDF features to the Federation? In other words, as a player, I enjoy both factions, but what would be my interest in playing as KDF if I can get the same exact features, and even more, with my FED characters? Also, if the Federation is getting the KDF features, do you intend to toss all the FED ones into the KDF to make the balance?

As features, I mean consoles, abilities, ships with universal bridge officer slots (fleet aquarius), very aggressive ship layouts (fleet defiant), etc.

If factions are just skins and costumes, I may just quit playing as KDF, because this faction is obviously getting less attention.

    1) Since seasons 7, 8 and 9 are looking to be the "seasons of great growth" for Cryptic and for STO, can we KDF expect some love?

    2) Missing KDF PvE, on Raptr Dstahl suggests that one method that Cryptic may use to enrich the KDF leveling experienc is to create a "Typhoon pact" situation with the races in the KDF. Can we expect to see missions covering the Gorn uprising, the Orions true purpose for joining (like what secrets did she tempt J'mpok with) and wether the Nausicians really care?

    3) Undine to the left of me, feds to the right. I'm stuck in the middle with you. Can we expect to see some KDF specific Undine missions that better portrays the KDFs hunt to eliminate these foes? Do you envision a agnostic STF arising from this idea that may have a decidely KDF flavor?

    4) Hurq? Will we ever see more of these classic bad guys? What about the other races, will we ever seen thier racial nemesi in game?

    5) One particular player had an excellent idea for a new KDF tutorial where the new player kills his Captain for being an Undine, takes the ship and that is how the player (at a low rank) becomes Captain. Any chance this could be a possibility? Its certainly sounds more fun than what we have.

    6) A lot of fans are upset over the percieved lack of balance between Fed vessels and KDF vessels, in that many feel the federation is less handicapped and has stronger choices. How do you maintain balance to the ideology of the factions? Do you think it may be time to relook at some KDF vessels, like the BoP, to make sure that in the rush of "new" brought to the game the KDF vessels of the line have not be neglected? \

    7) Can we hope to see new Non-Klingon racial vessels? Like Orion Escorts, Gorn battle Cruisers, Leathean Cruisers and maybe even an Alien choice?

    8) KDF bundle packs, Why haven't we seen more? Even if the resources where scarce before surely you can create some for the future under the new growth? Once made they could offer a good source of additional game revenue.
suggestions; Costume Bundle pack, Melee Bundle pack, Targ/Saurian Handler bundle pack.

    9) Factional Exclusivety? Many are upset over the Factional Consoles being thrown around in lock boxes, concerned with balance becuase of it and loss of factional draws that may effect player numbers. Do you have plans to leave some things exclusive to the factionas they come from or is STO to end up one big eventual free-for-all? How will you maintain the KDF feel of individuality?

    10) Storyline, Gadsukes!! The federation has nearly 40+ missions outlining the Fed/KDF conflict yet the KDf has 4. How do you plan to tell the KDF player they are at war with the federation in the lower levels of the game? Are you going to expand on this excellent backstory or let it die of neglect?

    11) Many reasons have been given to slightly handicap KDF vessels in the past, use of Universal slots, Claoking, Higher turn rates, the lower shield but high hull of the KDF design, in order to make trhem fair to federation vessels in combat. With the use of these abilities now on the federation vessels will we KDF players see a lessening of the handicaps that where once meant to bring balance, becuase frankly now they do more harm than good?

    12) In the Raptr Q&A it is hinted the feds may see a BoP-like vessel, Why? Why does an orginization designed for exploration and peace first and defensive warfare second need a vessel designed strictly to raid, harrass and strike enemy targets behind lines and with stealth? Have the feds become a bunch of warriors, raiding and conquering as they go? Shall even the ideology of the KDF be given away to them? How does the Defiant not fill this role, sans Battle Claok?
The KDF Bird of Prey is the most flown KDF vessel, as the last bastion of KDF uniqueness, why would you copy/paste it to the fed side and cripple KDF draw?
    EXCERPT:
rodneyddalton: What about allowing the humans to Play on the Klingon side. I also thought that Like the bird of prey on Klingon side it has all universal bridge officers. What if you could make a ship like that on the Fed side? Just a thought.
Dstahl: Both interesting ideas. It wouldn't necessarily add more content to KDF, but something to consider nonetheless. Like the ship concept too.

    1. The K'vort battlecruiser appeared in various episodes of TNG and was also mentioned in the DS9 episode "Penumbra" (showing it not only exists in the alternate universe of "Yesterday's Enterprise").
It is the last canon TNG-era KDF ship type missing from STO.
Will we see it in the future as a playable ship?

    2. While we have a ship called "Negh'var" in this game, it is actually the version without the ventral pods from the TNG season finale.

    http://images.wikia.com/memoryalpha/en/images/f/f8/Klingon_attack_cruisers_flank_the_Pasteur.jpg

Will we see the version from DS9's "Way of the Warrior" that was actually called "Negh'var" any time soon?

    http://images.wikia.com/memoryalpha/en/images/6/67/IKS_NeghVar_attack.jpg

    3. There are various Gorn and Nausicaan NPC ships unavailable to us.
Since we already have several ships without customization options or mix-and-match function, why are these not made useable for players?
Their level of detail is actually quite nice.

BUGS!!...KDF has way more bugs than the Fed side from what I've seen. A good example of one is when you are cloaked and a NPC and or any click-able window comes up and you click it or collect an item your ship will de-cloak.

Also if you are cloaked and you warp out of a map shouldn't your ship remain cloaked??...

I have bought half of the Fed side costumes with the costume slots and for the KDF side i have bought the ONLY costume there is on the c-store and have LOTS of empty costume slots that i would love to fill with NEW KDF costumes. I understand that for the KDF it's harder to make them, but if you guys make the effort people like me WILL BUY them (costumes for the Klingons, Gorn, etc. etc.) and give more toon creation parts like different hair, ridges, facial hair styles for the TOS, TNG, etc. a good example of this is the Gloves Klingon use. They don't use the same gloves the Feds use.....here are just a few examples.

Give people the chance to START a KDF at Level 1....how in the world are you going to possibly make another faction i.e. Romulan if you haven't even finished and refined the KDF...
If you finish it (KDF) people will come n' buy...

Give the other races on the KDF side more ships like the Lethean's need more than just the carrier, the Gorn also need more ships as well the same goes for the other races.

Give the KDF MORE melee weapon packs in game or C-Store
some of these weapons may or may not be cannon but it's an idea booster...

The UI needs to be more Klingon like..for example:

    http://t5ak.roblox.com/825c11cc1742a690911e68da5437ba09

Sorry i know these are NOT questions but more like constructive feed back, at this point I'm done asking when? and why?...but here are some examples that barely scratch the surface. There's a LOT of work to do on the KDF and I'm not talking about "End Game" content but just content period.

I know that Star Trek's main focus is on the Federation but this is a MMO with 2 playable factions. Give the KDF the attention to detail that it deserves.

    thank you for your time.

This is a great opportunity for us to provide direct feedback to our developers. Please take advantage of this event.

    To victory!

    Questions:

1- Klingon faction has been devoid of costume visuals in ground forever. When will this be taken care of?

-- In a similar note, can we PLEASE have the option to remove the visuals on the mk 12 ground weapons? Seriously, a nice, sleek looking rifle or pistol with a FUGLY protuberance made from holographic/glowy crapola.. c'mon man this is star trek not teletubbies on acid.

2- Ship options for KDF: I am one of those that believes KDF has a much better ship variety and uniqueness than the Federation. I do however wonder why the Federation receives all the new ship releases whereas KDF is left with ships a year+ old.

The HoHsus and BortasQ are really our 'new' ships for more than a year.

So my question is: Will there be at least an effort to release a KDF ship along with a Federation ship from now on?

3- PVP : This is a Klingon's greatest desire. Will Cryptic allow players to submit ideas on how to implement PVP and make a serious effort to introduce PVP as a gameplay option?

4- My pet peeve: Carrier issues. There are two.

A- (Visual cosmetic): Zoom level on the VoQuv carrier. I know the ship is very big but even on my 29" screen running 1920 resolution the ship still blocks half the screen.

Please allow these large ships to zoom the camera out some more. Heck allow a free zoom amount... it not only helps everyone but for those of us who like to make videos of the game an unlimited zoom-out would be SUCH a good tool!

B- Pet AI issues: Borticus probably rolled his eyes when reading this. :P

Pet AI has been severely broken for a long time and currently it only works because a haphazard band-aid-on-gaping-chest-wound fix made it 'mostly functional'.

It has been a chronic issue with pet AI that the developers do not listen to the player feedback and end up making it worse every time.

Can we please have a serious effort to resolve the pet AI issue? One where developers interact with the players on tribble/forums and crunch the problems out?

Seriously guys, you HAD fixed the pet AI. It was beautiful..orgasmic... and then you borked them while adding a silly cosmetic 'formation flying' routine. :(

Finally, THE most critical problem I have with KDF:

7- Color blind issue- KDF red interface is horrible to navigate for color blind players. When its red on black space background its not a problem but when the ship flies in green-background or green fx all around the interface simply VANISHES. Blurs out view.

I know for a fact that it is possible for KDF to use the federation interface because a bug had KDF using Fed interface in PVP maps for a long time.

Can we PLEASE at LEAST have the option to switch to Fed interface.. or add a color palette slider for the interface so we can choose the colors?

(note: color blindness is not just red/green. Others may be yellow/blue..so a color palette choice ..even if it only changes the color of what is currently red in kdf interface... will be an amazing fix).

We appear to have had forward movement. Dan Stahl said that they are now taking a "If you build it they will come," approach to getting a tutorial and 1-50 leveled play into the KDF in this month's Ask Cryptic.
    AskCryptic wrote:
Q: (fedwarrior) For two factions at war, the feds and klinks don?t appear to engage each other much. Is there any plans to improve PVP and make it more a core part of the game?

Dstahl: Even though this question pops up every month, it is important to note that I?m taking the ?build it and they will come? attitude towards the KDF. Despite the fact that a minority of players play KDF, there is still a dream that we can build up the two factions into two healthy adversaries that could warrant the ?war? that is going on. This is why I?ve been actively pursuing all of the resources necessary to tackle the biggest issue first ? which is to allow players to create a KDF faction character as their first character. As it is, you must create a FED, level it to 24, and then you can roll a KDF toon. Problem is, you?re already invested in your FED, so it makes it more challenging for you to want to play KDF. This means building a KDF tutorial and ensuring that you can play KDF from level 1 onward. Once this happens (which I hope it will in the future) it will warrant the type of PvP Battlegrounds that PvP fans (and PWE) are wishing was part of this game.

Read it for your self here... http://sto.perfectworld.com/news/?p=665391

Then they killed the discussion thread that was started for it. :(

Sorry, but this appears to be working as intended. Seen here in the Ask Cryptic:

Q: (tovalmorgan) Are you ever going to fix the decloaking bug? Whenever your bridge officers talk to you or any kind of interaction window pops up on the screen while you are cloaked, the pop up window forces your ship to decloak.

Dstahl: To clear up some confusion about this issue, let me shed some light on how cloak is intended to relate to interactions within the game. It is our intention that any interaction within the game will remove stealth. Anytime you are expected to take a game action of clicking on a button to respond, whether it is to scan something, or acknowledge a bridge officer, or make a command decision via a contact option, it should pull you out of stealth. With that said, there are undoubtedly missions out there that were made prior to the inception of the mini-contacts (the ones that fly across your screen) which are just providing information and shouldn?t need to be acknowledged. One reason we created mini-contacts was to allow information to be given by your bridge crew without you needing to acknowledge it for game design purposes. If you feel that a specific mission contact could be switched to a mini-contact that doesn?t need acknowledgement, then that is the type of suggestion that should be made. We can then look at the mission specifically and determine whether it warrants a mini-contact or not.

I'd also like to see the various ENT era Klingon ridges from the first two seasons added for the Klingon and Liberated Borg species. They are much superior to the current ridges. Also what about the costumes from the said series, they were more cloths than armour, which I think a lot of KDF players are after.

Could the Liberated Klingon Borg, a perk for being a Lifetime Subscriber be given the same traits as the standard Klingon (warrior and honourable)? I feel the Liberated species aren't worth using for anything other than resource characters to help with my fleet. Alternatively and a better idea, could they be made more useful perhaps with no forced traits and a huge trait pool to choose from (all KDF side traits perhaps, including trill and Ferasan) to show they regained knowledge from the collective. I feel this would also encourage more people to pay for a lifetime, given the game more development income.

The Federation has retrofitted NX and Constituted classes, could the KDF get the D5 and the ENT BOP as low tier or even higher tier ships? Considering how the Klingons use vessel designs for hundreds of years a D5 Battlecruiser as a high tier vessel wouldn't be unusual. The ENT Bop could even be added as a costume option for the B'rel and B'rel retrofit. KDF players want and somewhat need T5 ships to stay competitive with the Federation and all their new toys.

Could the BOP line up be given a buff, the Battlecloak (and Enhanced Battlecloak) and well as the Universal stations aren't that much of an advantage when your hull is closer to butter than steel?

Now that the Federation has an cloak emission seeking torpedo to tackle cloaking could the B'rel retrofit's enhance battle cloak fire torpedoes while still cloak with perhaps a % chance of the cloak disengaging for a few seconds like what it is now when firing a torpedo?

    I have 2 questions :

Since the story of the game involves the destruction of the Romulan homeworld, leading to a war where the Klingons try to take back old Klingon territory since the Romulans are weakened why not make a series of missions where the Klingons fight the Romulans over territory?

Since the Klingon side has way fewer ships than the Fed side why not just release all the NPC Nausicaan, Gorn, and Orion ships already ingame since the models and powers/consoles are already here all you'd have to do is figure out the BO layout?

    1. The Raptor class has had an issue with it's pivot point since beta. The pivot is rather far back on the ship (roughly where we would find it on a Battlecruiser), combined with the firing arcs located in the long nose, Dual and Dual Heavy Cannon arcs come to bear on a target far, far slower than the turn base would indicate. Add to this the slower turn rate when compared to a base federation Escort, and the Raptor becomes a very difficult ship class to captain.

When can we see a review of the Raptor Class, if not to move it's pivot at least to find a better balance?

If not a pivot change, consider these: The Enterprise episode we first see a Raptor in seems to indicate extraordinarily strong hull, so a much higher base hull could help. Alternately, the color text at the ship vendor describes the Raptor as having a devastating front arc, so perhaps moving one rear weapon mount forward would be the balance for the far shorter time on target our pivot and length provide?

    2. There are several examples of Klingon costuming on the NPCs in Qo'nos and Klingon Academy we cannot use ourselves. While I believe the sleeveless greatcoat has an issue of being designed for the old Alpha character modeler, more recent NPCs are sporting Federation Off-duty robes (the Great Hall guards, for example) - can we at least see access to these robes, and the handful of other items we have mentioned elsewhere on the forums that are already established in-game, on NPCs of our races? Moreover, can KDF aliens please have a broader range of items available to them from the sub races? Seems odd to spend time/resources creating armors and clothing items to have them only apply to that one race and not be available to the Aliens at least...

    3. Would it be possible to re-purpose areas in the game for more Klingon activities? I personally would like to see the fighting pits in First City and Klingon Academy opened up to PvE and PvP dueling (using a similar system to CO, but with the center of the duel area limited to the center of these rings, with the sphere ending at the ring's edge), and the arena on Forcas III re-used for an actual KvK Bat'leth PvP tournament event.

    4. First City seems to have plenty of untapped content! When we take the Tutorial chain which leads us about First City, we are introduced to a long list of named NPCs and areas of the city that are never again used. are these NPCs intended for something grander, perhaps as we see KDF 1-20 brought back into the game?

    5. Where are the Fleet Advanced/Elite Bat'leth??? Fleet ground weapons lack a melee category. With the daggers, Mek'leth, and both plain and decorated Bat'leth models displayed behind the vendor, I had hoped Fleet ground weapons would be highlighted.

    6. No KDF Fleet ship is eligible for the Ship Module discount. When can we expect to see C-Store variants of our tier 5 ships? (A C-Store Qin with menacing cannons off the hull like the Puyjaq and a wide-arc Dual Heavy cannon? If it looked like a mean love-child of the Puyjaq and the Birok I'd be a VERY happy Raptor driver... :D )

...In case I think of anything not already dismissed by the devs, completely ignored, or otherwise informed that it will never happen because resources are too small to waste on an insignificant portion of the playerbase.

This, this, this, WHY is the K'Vort not in this game? It is one of the most common appearing alien ships in the entire genre, plus it is so ridiculously easy to implement, its just a large, fixed wing Brel.

Seriously, sometimes I think the only reason it is not on here is due to all the emails I have sent DStahl asking for it. I think its just not on here to spite me:mad::mad:

    1. Is there a hypothetical plan of what kind of missions you would want to add to the KDF? (What I want to know is if they already have created something like a spreadsheet with possible arcs and missions to implement once they have the time to do so.)

    2. Would you be willing to work with the STO community on the creation of new missions for the KDF? (Things like creating threads with basic ideas in the KDF section or asking for a list of well made Foundry missions to either use or get inspiration from.)

    3. Considering possible future ships: If we were to get new ships would it be possible to give a nod and helping hand to KDF sci captains considering that they are forced to use BOP?s most of the time. (E.g. if you were to make a c-store Neg Var like the Regent Class could we get a Lt. Commander Universal or if it is tac/sci have the same tac/sci lieutenant slot be universal? [LTC Tac/LT Sci/LT Universal])

    4. Will we see any kind of tweaking or modifying for existing equipment sets?

    5. Will there be new sets available from STF?s? The current KHG set isn?t bad but seems to be geared mainly towards science captains.

Will the annoying transporter bug be fixed, the one where you beam fro the academy to the first city and end up in the shipyard? Also will it be possible to add a shipyard transporter option so one can beam from the academy straight to the shipyard?
