I Want To Start A Thread About What Cryptic Has Done RIGHT

levi3levi3 Member Posts: 1,663 Arc User
So many threads are here about all the faults and problems - so I thought it would be good to start one off that you can post something that has improved in the game that you LIKE

I will start off:

over the last 4 months at least I can't remember more than 1 unschedulated down-time - before this it seemed to be weekly or more than weekly sometimes -the old tuesday unscheduled downtime - every tuesday thing(or maybe it was Wed I can't remember)

So is ther anything you have been happy about?

I do have to say I like the somewhat steady release of new c-store items. I don't buy them all, or find them all terribly useful, but it is encouraging to see new items come along fairly regularly.

And I also like the devs providing us with new forum/game memes. Thanks Zero! :D

    I like the DOFF system.
It provides a different layer to this game.
I am the CO of a starship and I get the feeling I've got an actual crew that I need to manage.
Paperless future? Perhaps but it does not make the demands on a CO to use the crew to its fullest potential any less important.

To my total surprise I also like the Vault Shuttle Event.
I'm farming datalogs to help me build a ship with a set nowhere else available to build a setup that would not work like this otherwise.

    :)

I do like the apparent efforts some of the devs are making to communicate with the gaming community to a certain degree. They've been chatting with folks in RedditChat every now and then, and it's nice to see 'em communicating. Keep up the good work, folks! :D

I would say the biggest thing Cryptic did right was space gameplay. After that, I would say the Featured Episodes.

Cryptic realizes that since they don't want to put effort into building KDF content, that there is no need to put out KDF Cstore ships like the feds get on a monthly basis.
Two years and one T5 CStore ship and one mission is what Cryptic has done right!

Not fixing cloak after 18 months! I mean, it sounds like it too hard so why bother.
Should I start posting again after all this time?

DOFFs, I like that as it adds to my role playing. I go to the bridge to sign out work etc. I love how you can beam onto the ships, ground, etc and play around. Not to mention space. So your not stuck with the same thing all the time. Those explore clusters I love as you don't know what to expect. So I can keep going in there without feeling like a grind. How your other officers interact with you as you do your mission. The ships are very nice from what I see. I don't have complaints about any of the ones I flew so far. They are very close to the ones from the shows/movies. Granted the weapons firing could be worked on to make it more realistic. But I can let that slide. Seeing new stuff coming out a good pace for the store is nice. As that shows the game has good health. And chances I will buy from to have fun with.

I really love this game. Best computer game I played in a good while. I really enjoy it. Only thing I like to see is the KDF can get more support. As I love to play that faction as well.

    Things I like in STO:

    *It's Star Trek themed.
*Most of the story Missions in both Factions are entertaining.
*The game has some beautiful Zones/Maps.
    *Space combat is very good.
    *The Foundry is excellent.
*The C-Store selection is broad enough that just about everyone can find something they like.
*It has one of the easiest grinding-to-game-store-items systems of any FTP game I've played.
*The DOFF System is an entertaining little mini-game for those who like that sort of thing.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.

I like the costumes. While it is disappointing that Boffs and KDFers cannot use Off Duty outfits, the amount of costumes that exist, and the fact that most of them look awesome, is very neat. In most other MMO's there's maybe one or two outfits that look boss, and everything else is just filler. (DDO/LoTRO I am looking at YOU!)

But in STO, all of the costumes look very cool. (Even if the players tend to make poor colour choices. :P)

I'm glad Cryptic added the ability to buy DoFFs at our starbases to make it easier for us to fulfill the requirements for our construction projects.

Hmmm. Now, I don't know what to think about this post. Is it just an innocent post by a player who genuinely isn't aware of the current situation....

Or is he ok with things working as intended?

I'm not sure either... I was tempted to break the bad news, but I don't think this is the thread to do it.

Back on topic... Am I the only one who thinks Tykens Rift is now really pretty?

Personally I think you are being sarcastic - but I am sure that next week Cryptic will fix this by making them contibutable to fleet projects again - just not dismissable for CXP and dilth - which is fine.

On Topic : I also like that they have uped the graphics on most BO space power - ie - transfer shield strength - all the science skill effect actually

I know some people find it irritating but Borg Spheres - which are ment to be fast and manuverable - will actually chase you down in many cases now - instead of just lingering around - more realistic

Yeah, I was noticing a few of those changes myself. Tyken's Rift looks cooler now, almost has a 3D/transparent look to it despite me using low-medium graphics settings.

Well, we did have the ability. I thought it was decent of Cryptic, so what I said was entirely truthful. I like the CXP to Fleet Marks trade as well.

I am sure that soon we will be able to permently add this to the thread as something they did right - like making them contributable again - because right now a lot of people are very angry and the exchange has basically shut down for doffs- anything that puts people off starbase construction is NOT in their best interests - the longer it carries on the worse it will get because of the exchange issues.

Although I have been very vocal on this issue I believe rather than listening to us the players about this being a bad idea - they looked at the data and saw the amouts be converted to cxp/dith and did a rush move based on data and not player feedback.

again I think they will restore the ablity to contribute them again - which is the RIGHT thing to do - even if they make them cost more Fleet credits if they are worried about speed - it's a feature that was the RIGHT thing to put in the game - maybe just not in the form that it was.

the Missions. In most MMOs I have to sit and ask myself WHY I am killing 7 wolves and bring the pelts back to the village leader. But in STO, I have a sense of urgency about my missions. If I don't go back in time to stop the Devidians... who will? then.. all of time will collapse. I can see how my actions will effect the rest of the universe... even if it is only in my head.

I also have an emotional reaction to some of the NPCs. I dash over to help my Bridge Officers when they fall. I groan in disgust whenever Franklin Drake shows up :P There are few games that can do that to me.

Also, the Space combat. Not the most scientifically accurate model, but since when has Star Trek ever been concerned with silly things like "Realism". But it is fun, fast paced, each class does something different while being flexible enough to do most any role effectively.

Good Job Devs. May we have many more voyages together

Well that's easy, just make them cost more to buy than what you get back. Duh.

As for good things...... Bajor looks cool. ;) The mission that takes place there isn't the most exiting thing ever... But Bajor is really pretty! :P

Many people hate the storyline, but I like it. All the missions have a interlinking enemy - the Iconians. All the story arcs that span through out the game are mostly because the iconians' tampering with the timeline.

Also, I'm kinda fond of shooter mode, and the weapon revamp, I'm not the shooter mode kind of guy, but most people use it.

Finally, the skill revamp. Much less complicated now.

Shooter mode would be awesome if it were mandatory.

    However:

    1) It makes the controls much more different between space and ground.

    2) It's generally a liability without any perks in terms of hitting targets. If you give people RPG mode as an option, it's simply easier gameplay.

I'd be a fan of, say, a social mode and a shooter mode if the game launched that way and the abilities were built for it.

I get the impression Neverwinter requires shooter mode and the controls/powers are built from the ground up to support it. (For example, you get three active abilities and keybound daily cooldown "nuke" abilities on the number bar.)

What would work for me in STO is if shooter mode also enabled "aim mode" and perma-sprinting... and outside of shooter mode, we walk (can't run) and "aim mode" is disabled. That's a big change to thrust on players though.

The Top Ten Things I Like About STO
    1. That there is a KDF
    2. That the KDF has Orion chicks
    3. That the Orion chicks can wear bikinis
    4. That the KDF not only has PvE content, but that said PvE content has superior stories than most Fed missions (IMHO)
    5. Featured Episodes
    6. Breast slider
    7. Ship kitbashing (thank you for the option to choose)
    8. Duty Officer system
    9. That you don't need a degree in MMO to play STO
    10. That there is great potential in STO

    Flat out WRONG.

Those of us with RSI appreciate RPG mode + Autofire. Mandatory Shooter Mode would mean the death of the game for me and anyone who has problems from constantly clicking and holding buttons.

Optional Shooter Mode was done RIGHT!

    Body wise, yeah. Face-wise... Hm.

I guess I'm just a glass half full/glass half-empty kinda guy. For me, the glass is almost never TOTALLY empty and never TOTALLY full. ;-)
