Nightly Lessons Learned

edited October 2012 in PvP Gameplay
I remembered there being a thread like this for one of the old RTS games I used to play. Thought I'd put one up here.

Pretty simple: post one or more lesson you learned in PvP recently, or comment on somebody else's. No flamebait, please.

I shall start off:

Using the Devidian Cane in front of an engineer running Enemy Neutralization gets me blown up with mines. Bad idea.

Separating my MVAE in combat keeps me from turning, and is probably not very wise.

Tricobalt Mines are more fun then tricobalt Torpedoes, because you can get away from the TRicobalt mine, but you can't always move away from a torpedo since your usually moving towards it's target.. :D

Don't Battle Cloak while in weapons range, and for goodness' sake, do NOT do it while someone is shooting at you :P

Dont let your bloodlust make you stay to fight one versus five, no matter how much fun it seems.
Get help, get organized and use teamwork to achieve victory.

If you're running shield strippers and torpedos on the RSV, you can tell your teammates exactly what spec and equipment the enemy escorts are running just by the shield damage you do with CPB3+Tachyon Beam 3 @ full Aux:

Shields blown away to red: Non-Borg Deflector (probably Omega, lesser chance others), no ranks in Insulators. Priority Target.

Shields blown away to Yellow: Either Borg Deflector with 0 in Insulators, or maxed or Insulators. Please direct your team to this target.

Shields still Blue: Borg Deflector + Skilled into Insulators. Dammit, another one who knows what they're doing and has obsoleted my drains. Move along, nothing to see here (well, at least I can still spam tractor beams at the target).

If I hang back a little in my group, I can catch most or all of an enemy team with Graviton Pulse at the first engagement. This might be better than using it reactively or as part of focus fire.

Never underestimate your opponent no matter how good your fleet is or you are at pvp. Can lead to a domino effect for you or the rest of your team which you may not be able to recover from.

    Indeed ^^

And on the flip side never count your team out against a premade, you never know how they might react to your curveball builds :)

    In Kerrat:

It is okay to run with 75/25/75/25 in a cruiser as an engineer captain when in Kerrat running from three trailing BOP?s. It seems they have trouble dealing damage, while moving fast and while getting hammered by Beam overloads.

It made me realize, ?No wonder why the Enterprise in the TV series Enterprise always kept moving fast while firing on all those little ships? :P

When your in a cloaked ship, if your too close to some one who has their game sounds on, they will hear your powers as you pop them while cloaked. Best to stay away when buffing in cloak for an alpha strike and only buff as your decloaking. :)

Time to turn game sounds to max when PvPing. :P

When you give up on a game starting and leave the queue, the queue will suddenly fill up, and when you re-queue you'll get left out... (It happened. More than once.)

Is the same for ground, when a cloak tact is going to hit you can hear the sound of the Power Cell for miles, of course if they use it :D

Sitting still with engines at 0 and Defense setting at max, really makes some BoP players angry o.o

Edit: Did I mention I wasn't firing back?

Ground Lesson! The major importance of being crouched or sprinting for extra dodge (ground defense value) when taking fire from an enemy. Doing so makes even tacts almost seem tanky with high enough damage resist and total dodge values.
