For those asking, Brandon recently posted the concept art for the Romulan Colony map.
Now, if you could only get that into the game looking that good.
STO is about my Liberated Borg Federation Captain with his Breen 1st Officer, Jem'Hadar Tactical Officer, Liberated Borg Engineering Officer, Android Ops Officer, Photonic Science Officer, Gorn Science Officer, and Reman Medical Officer jumping into their Jem'Hadar Carrier and flying off to do missions for the new Romulan Empire. But for some players allowing a T5 Connie to be used breaks the canon in the game.
Based on that picture, I now want to play a Tholian.

Oh please... We all know Concept Art tends to look far different than the finished product. In this case, the finished product will look like ***** compared to the artwork.
No offense Taco, but by the developers own statements, the STO engine is far too limiting to even come close to being able to produce such artwork in real-time.
Don't get me wrong, I have no doubt the Romulan Colony map will look good. But it will look significantly worse, than the posted concept art, due to the limitations of STO's game engine.
You wanna take offense, go right ahead. I'm just stating my opinions.
See?! You can NEVER be offended when THAT is said first.

I didn't read what was written as a personal attack, Taco. It isn't your fault that you're working with a severely limited and outmoded game engine. I'm sure you do the best you can with what you're given.
I'm sure the zone will look good. I have absolutely no concerns about Taco's abilities
As far as my daily routine:
- Complete DOFF recruitment missions (rinse/repeat)
- Fly in circles for a while and chat with fleeties
- Possibly queue for a series of fleet missions (Incursion is my fave)
- Possibly do an STF or two
- Possibly do a fleet PvP match or two
- On rare occasion, a foundry mission
- Wish for the day for my ship interior to be beautiful, with my own decorations
I guess the end-game has become a little stagnant for me too. Ideally, now that the fleet Starbases and new fleet system have been implemented, it would be nice to get two or three new fleet missions every month or so.
I know that I probably don't realize the amount of work needed to make this sort of content, and probably have unrealistic expectations, but it's kind of what would be needed to keep my interest in the game until Season 7.
I've started playing Diablo 3, which had been sitting on my shelf, unplayed until now. It's holding me over until new content comes out in STO.. Hopefully a few missions before Season 7
Don't take it too personally Taco, meurik is fairly... cynical of Cryptic in general.
We all know the in-game representation of that artwork, if/when it gets in-game, will be completely different in the art style. But that's okay, as we'll love it anyway, even with whatever nitpicks people can find
Don't take it too personally Taco, meurik is fairly... cynical of Cryptic in general.
Well yeah, i'm a bit cynical regarding all things Cryptic. I lived through the "year of drought" and "broken promises" of 2011. I see a fairly straight path in a downwards slope, starting around the time the game went F2P. Nothing since F2P has suggested Cryptic is on an upwards path of improvement.
Season 6: Under Siege, is really the Season of "uber grind for Fleets". Seeing as most things regarding Fleet Starbases is cosmetic, I see no reason why they needed to make things so damned expensive. The ONLY thing of significant value, is the gear/ships requisition. The base itself, and it's content is purely cosmetic.
WTB "Tier 5 Visual Upgrade" in the C-Store... oops, did I just give them an idea for more milking?
Usually what follows is pure genius, and most definitely *never* offensive.
Take this as a cue... if you feel the need to start a sentence with no offense, there's probably a 90% chance that you think what you're about to say might be offensive.

Like I said above, if people take offense by my comments, that's really not my problem. For the most part, I am rather constructive in my comments, and supportive. But I am also critical of things, when I see them headed in (in my opinion), the wrong direction.
I've spent more than my fair share of money on this game, I feel atleast somewhat entitled to voice my opinions so long as it doesn't conflict with established forum rules.

This is pretty close to my activities in game as well. Thou i'll amend it with managing duty officers for CXP and Dilithium.
I lived through both of those events, but my opinion remains the opposite of yours. Probably because those events did not truly affect me I played, yes, but the drought didn't bother me, and the 'broken promises' were me understanding that things aren't set in stone, even when the devs try to make them so.
But I'm not here to have either of us argue about each other's opinions. I'm here to make sure Taco didn't take offense
Was named Trek17.
Been playing STO since Open Beta, and have never regarded anything as worse than 'meh', if only due to personal standards.
With the exception of the "Cardassian buildings" concept, all of the above images show single rooms/corridors. You know as well as I do, that the "Romulan Colony" image depicts an entire CITY, as well as the surrounding area. Quite a bit different than a single room or corridor, isn't it?
But I'm not here to have either of us argue about each other's opinions. I'm here to make sure Taco didn't take offense
Pretty sure Taco can defend himself, thank you very much. If he was so offended by what I wrote first in this thread, then I guess he doesn't have a particularly "thick skin". It's been my experience, that devs are OFTEN criticized for a multitude of reasons, alot of it is unjustified. Devs NEED to have that thick skin, in order to "withstand" being subjected to the community.
I think it looks great Taco! Please don't give too much weight to the ramblings of people who don't understand the true point of concept, the true value of concept, and especially the amount of work and effort that goes into quality concept work.

I hope we can see more soon!
Why do you presume to speak for me? Why do you think you have the slightest clue what I know, or don't know? I know full well, the meaning of concept art, and I also know there is not a chance in hell, that the finished product will look anything CLOSE to what was shown in the Romulan Colony concept.

I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
This is weird how so many of you ask more content for this game... While, according to this topic, most of you are not even using 50% of existing game content.
Personally, I find enough content in this game. This is PvP, Stf's, Foundry, Nukara, Defera and doff stuff of course. PvP could be better tho.)

Concept is generally beautiful, but rarely reproducible in an entirely different format like a game. I fully admit this holds true here. The idea for this map has already changed from when the concept was drawn, so the concept is already out of sync with reality. In addition, you are correct that I cannot duplicate the concept in game. This is not due to "limitations of the Cryptic engine," but rather due to the inherent nature that different things are different. i.e. a painting of an apple will never, ever, ever, replicate the apple entirely.
My beef is when someone says that my work is going to look like #*@!.
No, it won't match the concept perfectly, but I'm at least 23.45% sure my work isn't @*!#.

Sorry for the derail, what do YOU do in STO?
No worries friend. I am soooooooo glad that I don't have to read these sewers the way the Devs need to. There are some real jerks in here.
But I will say that these bafoons are really not that many, just loud. Just like being tail-gated by a tractor trailer. It really only rarely happens, but you sure do remember it.
Well, I think its a pretty good rendition of the romulan colony maps I've seen in game.
Other than that, its some pretty awesome artwork.

Too bad the game engine is to limited to pull that off nearly that well.
