Well there are many ups and downs to the KDF...however this one locked me in:

    Raptor Class.

Defiant's BO/Weapon Layout with cloak and 45,000 Hull Hitpoints (PS: and it turns good too.)

I have logged in over 400 hrs so far in this game, played a fed tactical escort captain up to VA, a fed Science Captain in a nebula up to VA, and a KDF Engineer up to VA, I am currently working on Gorn Science officer who is lvl 35.

In my experience and personal taste I find playing a KDF engineer in a battle cruiser the most fun in the game. Dual Cannons, cloak, can put 3 turrets and a torpedo on rear, and all with survivability. I just love it, and am salivating over the fleet Vor'cha.

Science officers in a BoP are a blast too. Cannon rapid fire & crowd control abilities, yum!

I will admit I haven't made a Klingon yet, playing a Gorn science, and my Engineer is an alien made to look Andorian.

But yes, Klingon Cruisers, throw 2 RCS consoles, and you can fly like an escort, have more hull, more weapons, and an integrated Cloak.

My only wish is that the BoP looked better, I just want a K'vort class. Upsize the b'rel, take the enhanced cloak away, more hull and call it a day.

You can do alot of leveling through Doffs and collect contrabands as well.

Here's a decent reason: Naked greed.

Empire Defence is 1440-5760 Dilithium per day depending on how many are open(More open up as you level-you start with Federation and Romulans, then progress to Cardassians, then Borg), unique to KDF, and are simple space battles. Thus KDF generally have more Dilithium to play with in general, to convert to Zen or use for power gear or use for Starbases, etc.

KDF also gets lots of Contraband-an Uncommon commodity gained via the Duty Officer system and via the Advanced Orion Slaver carrier pets. Contraband is used for various KDF-specific Duty Officer missions and can be turned in to a Security Officer NPC(A special Duty Officer mission at places like Earth Spacedock and Quo'Nos) for 2000 Dilithium on either side with a 4 hour cooldown. This makes them seriously valuable to yourself and others. This contraband isn't bound-you can trade it to yourself via mailing or the Account Bank, or sell it on the Exchange.

In short: Klingons get the money. Which means they get the power.

Also: non-Zen Carrier that's earned earlier(40 vs 50). The Vo'Quv is a hulk in terms of movement, but in combat is fairly beastly in offence and defence, and that's before you get into the fact you can throw 4 escorts at things(Birds of Prey), drain everything's power away(Siphon Drones), and help allies(Shield Repair Drones) as you choose.

The community on the Klink side is generally much more friendly and willing to help out new warriors. That has been at least my experiences. Out of my current characters, I have 3 Klink toons, and 2 Feds, and I visit my Klinks wayyyyyy more often.

Because we care about one another. We value each other and share commonality. The KDF, in its nature, spirit and temper, can be compared to that "mocked young ATOM."

The only question that remains, when you are playing - are you truly content with being in the "favoured" corner, or do you share an incredible sense of pride on taking up the challenge of being like "ATOM"?

    Great! Some hints...

    - Play with a good fleet. Playing with friends is 50% of all fun to play with a KDF.

    - KDF roleplayers are good, and you can have the pride to do more with less stuff.

    - KDF players have the pride to play with a limited faction, without enough original content and uniforms. This force you to become more creative and skilled, having less C-store stuff to cover you.

    - We have orions dancers.

    - We have carriers for free. FED have to pay :)

    - We have cloak system in our ships. Fed have to pay :)

The role play is really good. Since KDF is lacking missions to level up. So you have to be more creative.

I like how the KDF has their own "uniforms" as well. Like a Gorn has their own looks, Orion, etc. If you chose that. I did and gives my crew a very unique look. Plus it gets you away from the "Standard" look like Feds usually goes for. As most of their looks they want you the same.

The Bat'leth says it all. It comes standard with your Klingon, and you learn how to use it from the start. Nothing is better than hacking into your enemy. Lot different role than just shooting a gun.

    - Vor'cha Refit. Best friend a TAC captain can have ingame.

    - No Diplomacy.

    - Less talk. More Pew Pew Pew.

    - We were meant for PvP in the first place. Which is why even our worst is better than most of the Feds.

    - Far easier to acquire dilithium. And, when we have enough, we have ships which are worth spending it on.

    - KDF players are generally much friendlier and far less self centered.

    - The Fek'lhri missions are very challenging and enjoyable.

I'm levelling and hate the way most Klingon related stuff is literally too dark! >.< Had to buy a brighter bridge for my ship because I couldn't see.

I love it for the following reasons though:

    - Ferasan look awesome with sabre teeth and proper armoured outfit instead of a uniform.
    - Costume options are basic but can make some neat stuff, like the flight suit with body armour for my crew.
    - The KDF doesn't actually feel like Star Trek to me. It feels more like Serenity with guns, lots of guns. And a cloaking device.
    - Birds of Prey are so much fun.
    - You can do anything you want without thinking "But Starfleet wouldn't do this." KDF are do some nasty things, even duty officers can be executed or granted permission to go kill themselves for being crippled and useless. :D

    ^this :D

Most of the obvious reasons have been pointed out...

I've found a better pool of players who better understand the game.

    80% Fed > 20% KDF playerbase

Roughly 55% of Fed only players have no idea what to do.

Roughly 30% of KDF players have no idea what they're doing.

Granted a large part of KDF players play both factions..

^The above is just my opinion from what I've seen...

Once I finish the storyline (just about to start the Undine missions), I'll be making a Klingon character. And having a fully Klingon crew. In a BOP.

See what all the fuss is about.

I may make exceptions for some Orions in the Galley.

Well considering the first reply was less than helpful (No wonder Cryptic feel KDF is a lost cause with responses like that)
I play both FED and KDF and as a major Klingon fan I do also tend to complain. However the upsides to KDF instead of exploring missions you have defend the empire missions. You can also have unique species that you can't get as a fed Also ships some are equipped with a battle cloak (Which I believe just KDF has) . KDF is mostly PVP based as mission content that is not foundry is in short supply but you can always do STF's as KDF as well to get the honor guard equipment also another character means more dilithium and more zen if you convert them.

I believe it is worth it just to get the feel of a little different to your fed character but I will leave the choice to you.

Everything about the game design railroads players into playing fed.

If this guy needs convincing to try kdf, he's not going to make it anyway.

    I vote for TRIBBLE off...

No convincing should be needed, you have character slot that can only be used for a Klingon, so you may as well make one.
Klingons shoot first and don't bother with questions later.
Klingons can advance in rank by killing their superiors (not implemented in game, but would be interesting if it were)
You get to fly some of the best tactical ships in the game.
You can have half naked Orion slave girls in your bridge crew.
You can play as a half naked Orion slave girl if you're the kinky sort.
You can play as freaking Godzilla if you're a Gorn.
    Diplomacy? What's that?
Bat'leth makes a great bottle opener for Gorn beer, otherwise a sledgehammer and explosives are required.

Oh that is fun, my first KDF character is a Lethean and unlike my first Feddie that went bye bye Naymor is still around with an entire crew of Lethean's who all use their physic powers on the enemy. They are quite effective too. :D

I have noticed around Qo'Nos and the Academy there are more and more Lethean's appearing which I find great.

You'll find the 55% and the 30% overlap in character ownership by a significant margin.

KDF duty officer missions have the following words:

    Pillage
    Plunder
    Raid
    Bombard
    ---also---
    Bribe
    Extort
    Blackmail
    Assassinate

The following activities involve a disruptor:

    Negotiation
    Counselling
    Discipline
    Diplomacy

KDF has Marauder missions instead of diplomacy. These missions allow you to gather a significant amount of commodities, random loot, and many prisoners. Prisoners are a very useful resource. They can be sold to slavers for sigificant experience and GPL or used as forced labor for extra dilithium. Marauding missions are good for your bottom line.

You can also look at Klingons as Space Vikings and Nausicans as Space Biker Pirates if you don't want to look too deeply into them.

    Gorn are....big.

You will find that the pretty Federation ships make just as pretty explosions.

    Bravo !
I would have said quite simply.

Because the KDF centric story missions are hands above ANY story mission for the FEDS and that includes the ones I really like, such as What Lies Beneath. Oh and the most important reason of all, because it's fun.
