Kind of a skewed Poll considering that the KDF has been considered player poor in numbers for quite some time and therefore will never match the fed playerbase for shear number of voters.
This poll may have gotten a completely different array of resposnes had this been asked at or before launch, 2 years late is not gonna give a fair assesment in my opinion.
Though I voted KDF only (big surprise), I am happy to see the "both Equally" is in the lead. More full factional play can only help STO grow.
Prior to release would be skewed.
Any ip game would have people voting for the faction that is most represented in the ip at first.
Like everyone did with wow. Go alliance.
Same with war hammer.
But afterwards populations even out.
Cryptic didn't want to know that.
All they heard was "17% of ppl dress up as klingons at conventions".
In a baseball game, cryptic wouldnt even have went up to the plate to try.
They won't even release equal cstore stuff. Lol
Which is why cryptic is well known for creating the worst faction in mmo history.
Fed is a bit bland. I do enjoy my Feddie, don't get me wrong.
And don't let the "16%" thing fool you. This has NOTHING to do with what I prefer from the Star Trek IP! This isnt a Con, its an MMO. I'm always the Redsider. SWG Imperial, WoW Hoard, CoV, SW:ToR Sith, therefore STO Klingon.
Of course, Cryptic seems to prefer a 1-faction game...
Oh, and its a bit difficult to have spent an equal or greater amount on KDF gear on the C-Store... But to say "The Odessy outsold the Bortasq exponentially?"
PUT A (good, worthwhile) BoP SET UP AND SEE WHAT HAPPENS. KDF is known for the Raider first, then the Battlecruiser. The Federation is best known for its Cruisers.

Personally I see the content issue as a red herring in that you can easily cap out on only a very small fraction of content. Beyond that, if you are interested in stories there is the Foundry and if you are interested primarily in drops and cool new gear, you are less likely to be concerned about the stories.
(Yes I know there are people who want both. To them I say Voyager was the only series with significant ship modification and was so so for plot.)
To Levi: I disagree on the concept that most missions should be distress calls. The Enterprise was more often than not ordered to check out a lost ship or a disaster. When you are the closest ship (which is the usual premise given why they were asked) you don't tell your superiors 'no thanks, we have shuffleboard scheduled." Both Star Fleet and the KDF are organized fleets. Why would at least the illusion of fleet coordination break the IP for you?
oh and i would like to add, i actually LIKE that the KDF has less annoying story content to go through so that we start at a higher level -> less level grinding to get an ALT up.
Give me a new reason to make an ALT, fed or kdf, and i will choose KDF!
...but really after 3 years i think it's time for Romulans!
With the dedication Cryptic shows the Klingon Faction we will wait forever until the Klingons are "finished".
Can just as well start working on the Roms now, maybe in 2 years they might be somewhat enjoyable.

It isn't even remotely a red herring. The fact that Cryptic is rushing everybody to cap on a very small fraction of the content is not an answer; it's part of the problem. Honestly, the notion that "KDF or Federation can hit the cap with current content, so there's no real problem" is the biggest red herring in this game right now. Of course we can hit the cap with current content if you ramp up the XP, toss in Duty Officers, and speed everyone to level 50.
I am primarily interested in stories. I enjoy some Foundry missions, but they do not have all of the tools available that the devs have. The devs can do so much more with mission design and are professional writers. While the Foundry is a *great* supplement, it is not the prime story content of the game. If it is, there is a problem. Please don't say that player-designed content with inferior tools and fewer resources should be the primary source of storyline content in the game, especially since it does not advance the official story and does not offer the rewards that dev-created content offers.
There are also plenty of players who are greatly interesting in "drops and cool new gear" because it will benefit them while playing through the episodes. Drops and cool new gear are meaningless if you don't have anything to do with them once you get them.
Star Trek is Federation. Every show and movie is Federation. When people hear Star Trek, they think of Kirk or Spock, Picard, Sisko, Janeway. Worf usually doesn't top the list. Other Klingons (other than maybe Torres or Alexander) would barely be known.
I was very surprised to see the KDF as an enemy faction here, I kind of expected them to be playable allies, especially post-Dominion War. What with the Borg and Undine and such...
I would play both, but mostly Federation. If there were a fully fleshed out KDF storyline, I would definitely spend more time with KDF than I do now, but Federation will always be my preference. KDF is a good change of pace and would be better with more KDF-specific content.
I go for roughly equal game-time, but probably play KDF a little more if for no reason than I love my tactical Bortas and the fact that my fleet's Klingon starbase needs more work than our Fed one.
I remain empathetic to the concerns of my community, but do me a favor and lay off the god damn name calling and petty remarks. It will get you nowhere.
I must admit, respect points to Trendy for laying down the law like that.
Seriously though, I partially fall in the 80% of Trekkies\Trekkers\STO players that want to live the life of a Federation starship captain.
The other part of me falls in the remaining 20% of Trekkies\Trekkers\STO players that would like to play one of the other factions in the ST galaxy.
While I am hopeful that someday in the future, I'll be able to play the "Green" faction, I'll just continue to make do with what we have available and enjoy the entertainment it provides.
p.s. just realized I responded in a month old necro-posting.
If they ever actually add Romulans to the game, I'll create you a poll with them as an option. But it looks to me like this poll is about the factions that actually exist, not the ones that dont.
Even now, I prefer the KDF faction to the Fed faction for a number of reason so my vote goes to KDF.
In my opinion, what few missions that the KDF has now are really well written and are among the best missions in game. I feel that there is a true driving force in the KDF missions and, in my opinion, is something that the majority of the Fed missions lack.
Aside from missions, my favorite Star Trek species belongs to the KDF Faction. I know I'm in a minority now with my Retro Gorn, but I still love the Gorn.
I voted 'both equally', but honestly it would depend on the nature of that content.
If I take 'EQUAL content' literally, then that would mean just more of the exact same stuff I do as a Fed. I think I'd rather that playing KDF was a more distinctive experience (that's why I keep going on about piracy).
If the KDF content were fun enough, I could end up playing nothing but that.
So, I just want to point out that 87% of the community who chose to take this poll actually stated they play Klingon, either exclusively, equally, or occasionally.
Not 16%, 87%.
25% total Play Klingon Exclusively or Primarily, with an additional 39% stating they play both equally.
Devs take note, of this particular sample, development intended for KDF-only would reach 87% or your player-base, and purchasable content *should* reach 25% (or including half the "equal" players, ~44%), plus the completists with decent disposable income.
I admit that Federation is far and wide the more popular, and therefore Federation budgeting will always take some priority, but I doubt I see even 25% spent on KDF development.
Admittedly, an actual breakdown of hours-played is more likely their basis - but why would anyone log in to play (KDF) if there is nothing unique/more to do?

"We all change, when you think about it, we're all different people; all through our lives, and that's okay, that's good, you've gotta keep moving, so long as you remember all the people that you used to be."
I un-fortunately I said Federation only: even after having a Klingon Character, even after purchasing a Klingon ship and some duty officer packs. The reason is simply, it is way too late for that, at least for me. I?m of the crowd that played this game since BETA. The time that they should have created a viable Klingon Faction was pre-launch of the game.
Now, now is the time to introduce another real faction that is larger than the content of the Klingon Faction and on par with the Federation. Sure it will take away players from both the Federation and the Klingon Empire, but to counter this drawdown from both of the old factions, the Kittomer Accords could be put back in place.

I'm going to have to disagree. I am fully against the introduction of any new factions until both existing factions are either equal or one of the two is cut entirely (No delusions about which one it would be). No compromises.

If there was more missions klink-side I'd want to check them out more, I might even be persuaded to buy some of their ships.
But we all know it's never going to happen.
*sigh* If only Cryptic didn't spread half a dev team across three games...
