Weapons Stop Firing

I'm still attempting to track down solid repro steps on this. I'm spinning the topic off into a new thread because it became obvious that Confuse effects (while originally the most likely culprit) have turned out to not be the true and only cause of this.

I have a few questions for anyone that has experienced this. Please think carefully about the answers and only answer if you are certain it is the truth. Good information will help lead to a solution to this problem.

1) Did you experience this as a Fed or KDF (or both)?

2) Which ship were you flying at the time?

3) Were you on a PvP map? If no, were you on a queue'd map of some other kind? If yes, has anyone experienced this outside of PvP?

4) If in PvP, which faction were you engaged against at the time? (FvF, FvK, KvK)

5) Did it affect all weapons? If no, which were left active?

6) When you were affected by this, did any of your other abilities stop working? If so, which ones?

7) Did you notice any other active UI elements at the time of shutdown that normally are not active? (e.g., the Need/Greed Loot window, or accidentally hit ESC to bring up options, etc)

8) If you managed to fix the issue, what was your solution? (I've heard dying and relogging, but does changing instances work? How about turning the UI off and on again with Alt-F12?)

    This has been a problem to a much lesser extent than it is now (so whatever it is has gotten worse over time), before I used to only have my Torpedoes lock up. Now everything but 1 or 2 weapons can lock up.

    1: Both

    2: Recon, Assault Cruiser, Vorcha Refit, MVAM, AE.

    3: I have never noticed it outside of pvp maps. Admittedly the only pve I do is the Fleet stuff now, with the odd STF hoping I get a purple drop.

    4: It seems about even. FvF and FvK. I even had it happen in a KvK on all maps.

    5: I have had it happen to 1 weapon (most commonly was my torps.. and this has been an issue since at least Season 4 that I can remember), but I have had it happen to all of them but 1 or 2. The number of unusable weapons seems to very from occasion to occasion, but most commonly if it happens to more than 1 weapon it happens to all of my forward weapons.

    6: My bridge officer abilities occasionally go white boxed. Things like EPTS, TSS, Tac teams. No stuns, or disables necessary. Much more commonly however is having a bridge officer ability fired off, and all you get for your trouble is an expired cool down with no ability activation, or it will kick itself into linked cool down and still not give you the use of the ability. The only things I have not had it do this with are my Captain Abilities. The two issues, at least on the surface do not appear to be related, as they do not happen together very often. (thankfully, at least for us players.. probably something that is going to make it a nightmare for you guys)

    7: It does not seem at least for me, any more prevalent in one instance or another. I have had it happen with extra windows up or not.

    8: Dying, and relogging seems to be the best bet. Never tried turning off the UI.

    Let's be specific -- only include answers from events that happened AFTER Season 6 launched. I'm aware that this may have been happening prior, but the circumstances that caused those previous outages may have differed from current code.

    Focus your experiences to the past 2 weeks.

    This is all stuff that is still occurring now, I only mentioned that it goes back to at least season 4 that I can remember, to at least hopefully give some idea of where to start looking. I don't know if I carried that point across properly or not.

    I wouldn't have mentioned stuff like expiring boff CDs with no ability granted, if it were not happening now.

    In the last 2 weeks I have had all of the above happen at least on 3 distinctly different occasions. On all of those ships, in all of those matches, and all of those maps. I don't know how to consistently reproduce it yet, since it seems like after going over my combat footage, that there's alot of different things going on, in each video. I did manage to have it happen right after Jesse Logged and I did catch it on camera. I'll comb over the footage frame by frame and see if I can isolate it or not.

    Also @Thissler had it happen to him as well. We were farting around with @Sivar in the same match Jesse had left, to go work on things.

    3) Were you on a PvP map? If no, were you on a queue'd map of some other kind? If yes, has anyone experienced this outside of PvP? No, Pi Canis Sortie Alpha. I thought is was from a Phaser Proc but a use of Engineering team didn't fix it and it lasted the remaineder of the mission. Leaving the mission and returning to it fixed it.

    4) If in PvP, which faction were you engaged against at the time? (FvF, FvK, KvK)

    5) Did it affect all weapons? If no, which were left active? Not all weapons

    6) When you were affected by this, did any of your other abilities stop working? If so, which ones? not sure, the weapons affected in the weapons window got a white highlight box around them

    7) Did you notice any other active UI elements at the time of shutdown that normally are not active? (e.g., the Need/Greed Loot window, or accidentally hit ESC to bring up options, etc) did not notice any

    8) If you managed to fix the issue, what was your solution? (I've heard dying and relogging, but does changing instances work? How about turning the UI off and on again with Alt-F12?) changing instance did work, as noted in #3

    well im in a no win for fleet advent, as i used my extends i got hit with psw. after that i could not use my extends. the power is greyed out. so i assume its when use using something and a power interrupts it.

    This just happened to me about an hour ago in Starbase Fleet Defense. After using Beam Overload 1, both of my forward facing DBBs stopped firing. The problem corrected itself after I died and respawned.

    3. Not a pvp map, I was in Starbase Defense (against Gorn NPCs)

    5. Not all weapons, just my two forward facing DBBs. Forward torp and Quad cannons were unaffected. Aft weapons were unaffected as well.
    6. Not sure about all of my abilities, but I was able to use my shield and hull heals
    7. Did not notice any
    8. The problem fixed itself after dying and respawning

    Same here, to add occasionally happens in starbase defense and freighter escort PvE maps as well, and effects only forward weapons.

    Also have similiar problem in 'the Vault' event but I've noticed at the time weapons cease firing is when target lock appears to 'unlock' or targets nothing at all.

    6 all powers still worked
    7 no
    8 deselect target, fly away out of combat range of all hostiles, smash space bar repededly while a energy weapons power was active.

    While this has happened to me while i was mostly fighting the KDF npc i was not hit with the disable weapons power some of the NPC have. I have popped an engi team while i was unable to attack, a weapon battery, and red matter. My weapons power was not at zero it was well over 75% i could still move and turn. I thought it was that power but when i fought the Romulins in No-Win several instances my weapons would stop firing with me at most 8km away from the nearest target while running cannons and cannon powers.
    what the hell is up with the crappy "f" at the end of my name was never there on either website till the crappy change

    3) Arena map (I believe cracked planetoid)

    4) FvF (can't remember whether I was red or blue)

    5) It affected only 3 of my 4 forward DHC's. Row 4 columns 1, 3 and 4. Aft weapons unaffected.

    6) I did not notice other powers non functional in this instance, but I did have this issue where Evasive Maneuvers was similarly unresponsive early in S6.

    7) I did not notice any unusual UI elements.

    8) When the match ended and I re-zoned back into sol system, the problem had resolved itself. I did not die in the match, and didn't try relogging.

    Point of interest: I know for certain that this happened immediately after I got hit by a tricobalt mine and the disable resulting from that expired. I approached another player and activated a variety of buffs including APB, CRF and APA, got one regular volley off and was then hit by the mine, after the disable expired, only 1 functional DHC.
    (without making assumptions, perhaps when a disable occurs while a weapon is mid cycle has something to do with it?)
    Maybe irrelevant, but this occurred relatively near the 'edge' of the map. Above, or perhaps slightly outside the boundary defined by the large transwarp gates.
    I haven't tried reproducing this myself yet, so I don't know if it will reproduce the effect.

    1. KDF (I hardly use my Fed Toons though, and haven't used them since Season 6)

    2. Not sure but at least 1 of the following: Kar-fi, Heavy BoP, or B'rel

    3. PvE Fleet Event

    4. N/A

    5. All weapons (which were all energy Weapons)

    6. Not sure, I had flight response and at the time I was only interested in firing

    7. The effect was most similar to trying to activate a series of abilities too fast. In other words assuming there's an activation time for using an ability, and you must wait for it to procede prior to using a second ability or the second ability won't take effect, it was if there was something waiting to clear from the ability "queue" if you will.

    As I mentioned in a previous thread there was a lot going on graphically and I wasn't sure if my weapons were actually firing, but I wasn't the results were taking place, but my UI wasn't displaying the results of the fire. There was no indication from enemy health & shields nor any other display this was the case though.

    8. I just waited several seconds before trying to use any ability.

    Unfortunatly this happened before I notice the thread yesterday so I didn't think to take note what others were using around me. If I come across it again, I'll try to take better notes. I don't have the system resources to record w/o effecting my game play though, so I prefer not to attempt a video capture.

    this is happening on all my ships. with random weapons being locked out.

    this morning, it was bugship, 3/4 front dhc's, in a starbase defense.

    a while back, my weapons would go on cooldown even if they werent firing. now it seems they can get stuck mid volley somehow.

    i am uncertain of what i was being hit with at the moment, or what buffs i was trying to run.

    so far all in qued maps, pvp and fleet events. haven't had it happen in stfs, but i have played those maybe twice since season 6. haven't done non qued content in quite a wile come to think of it.

    its been completely random what gets disabled on me. one time on my vorcha my DBB was the only thing disabled, another time on my excelsior 3 single cannons and 2 turrets were disabled. i don't think beam arrays have ever been disabled for me yet, but thats the only exception so far.

    6) When you were affected by this, did any of your other abilities stop working? If so, which ones?

    the only ability strangeness that i have noticed since season 6 is with tractor beam and tractor repulsers. after the effect countdown ends it appears as though it is ready to use again, theres no cooldown counter. if i click it again though it shows the correct cooldown time. this is unrelated to weapons going off line though, it happens every time i use these 2 abilities

    7) Did you notice any other active UI elements at the time of shutdown that normally are not active? (e.g., the Need/Greed Loot window, or accidentally hit ESC to bring up options, etc)

    no. though i seem to notice offlining happen to me when abilities that stun hit me, like when people use PS and those fed npcs in fleet events spam those PS torpedoes. the KDF npcs that shoot that pink immobilizing thing too.

    i have never been able to correct the off lining wile alive, i think getting killed fixed it for me though. i haven't had a chance to bug out of combat and try swapping weapons around to see if that does anything though yet, it thankfully hasn't happened to me in a week

    First of all; With this specific bug I've seen a different bug right after this one, I think its very important for you to know, I'll explain this right after the initial questions;

    1. Experienced this with Fed, two times in the last few months.

    3. 2 times in a PvP map. The one I'm certain of where it happened was Solar Wind.

    4. At least last time when I was Fed, I can clearly remember fighting Klingons.

    5. Im not exactly sure what happened, but since this bug occured and i was in heavy fight with my fellow opponents i took the time to switch to my 4th tray row where my 7 weapons were located to see what was going on with them (4x DHC, 3x Turrets). The thing I do know that even when I was pointing my escort in the 45 arc range of my enemy not all of my weapons were firing. The things I clearly DID notice was that some of my weapons where darker green then the others (The autofiring stuff that colors your weapons green) even if I had my enemy in clear 45 arc range. And I clearly saw 2 of my turrets not firing, and only 1 was firing really. (Visually on the tray, with the cooldown animations)

    6. Im sure that my heal and tank abilities still worked. (RSP, EptS, TSS2, BFI)

    7. I was happily playing PvP and I cannot remember any Loot window open, nor did I use the options menu and stuff before the incident.

    8. I did not try hiding the UI at that time. For the rest of the answer it requires a bit more explanation on what I did:



    - My weapons stopped reacting, Im not sure if all my weapons stopped, It could be that I still saw some visuals but Im not sure about this. Next thing I knew i was disoriented and finally I was killed because of frustration and trying to get my weapons working. I tried minimizing the game, press escape a few times to go to the options menu, I might have tried some others things as well.

    - After I died however, something else really strange happened. After respawn my ship was totally invisible. I could fly and steer my ship, but since Im an escort player I didnt really know where my ship was pointing at anymore. So I was trying to fly blind.

    Really strange all, the only thing i can clearly remember was that i was either AMS'ed but probably scrambled at some point where I died, and when i respawned i was still scrambled. But im unsure if this has anything to do with it.

    But Im pretty confident that when my weapons stopped firing the first time, and next thing I knew I was invisible and could only see the beams and bolts from opponents targetting my invisible ship, I was pretty confident both problems were related to each other.


    I must say tho that I didnt try to relog after the match AFTER this one where the first problems occured, where my weapons were still acting strangely and my damage output was considerably lower, i knew the problems werent over.

    I changed my Autofiring option from Maintain back to Toggle, change cancels, logged out, and logged back in. And my problems where gone. (This because I thought it might be related to my auto attack method I picked because we all know they arent exactly working as intended)

    I'm surprised to see a thread and post from a dev for this issue to be honest, and frankly I didnt bother posting a bug report because it seemed like a bug that was hardly if ever to track down. Im glad though that a developer itself actually brought this forward and asks the communty for this bug.

    4) If in PvP, which faction were you engaged against at the time? (FvF, FvK, KvK)

    5) Did it affect all weapons? If no, which were left active? Just cannons

    6) When you were affected by this, did any of your other abilities stop working? If so, which ones? All else seemed to work okay

    7) Did you notice any other active UI elements at the time of shutdown that normally are not active? (e.g., the Need/Greed Loot window, or accidentally hit ESC to bring up options, etc) Not at the time, but there were many loot windows throughout the match. No scrambles or AMS that I can remember

    8) If you managed to fix the issue, what was your solution? (I've heard dying and relogging, but does changing instances work? How about turning the UI off and on again with Alt-F12?) waited for the mission to end. worked fine next mission

    2) Which ship were you flying at the time? With a Hegh'ta Heavy BoP in KDF, and in UFP in a Ferengi Marauder (D'Kora) and with a Prometheus (the Dilithium one, not the C-Store one) only in the Marauder all my weapons stopped firing

    3) Were you on a PvP map? If no, were you on a queue'd map of some other kind? If yes, has anyone experienced this outside of PvP? I experienced this in the middle of a No-Win scenario with my prometheus along with some pug teammate that said it was happening to him too when I told them one of my weaps wasn't firing. In my Marauder it happened at Ker'rat.

    In my KDF it happened to me in a patrol map included in the Pi Canis Sortie Alpha or Bravo "daily" missions.


    4) If in PvP, which faction were you engaged against at the time? (FvF, FvK, KvK) At Ker'rat I was on fed side but don't remember much details, the other two happened on non-pvp matches

    5) Did it affect all weapons? If no, which were left active? On my fed toon in the prometheus it only affected a Phaser Dual Beam Bank, in the UFP D'kora it affected all weapons (turrets and cannons) and in my KDF affected 3 of my 4 forward weapons: two Disruptor dual cannons and a disruptor heavy dual cannon.

    The weapons that were left active in my prometheus were 3 turrets, and 2 dual cannons and 1 heavy cannon, in my Hegh'ta two turrets and one cannon were unaffected


    6) When you were affected by this, did any of your other abilities stop working? If so, which ones? None that I was using at the time, although not all of them were being used.

    7) Did you notice any other active UI elements at the time of shutdown that normally are not active? (e.g., the Need/Greed Loot window, or accidentally hit ESC to bring up options, etc)
    In the No-win scenario (Fed one) not a clue because there was caos everywhere at the time it stopped working, but I'd guess different kinds of loot were dropping. On my KDF there was no loot cause the NPC ship hasn't been destroyed yet but I had just used the "option" for Jam Comunications (for the mission optional) and I had the "Beam supplies aboard" option active from the cargo container the NPC was defending.

    Don't remember anything of the sort on the D'Kora

    In my prometheus and in my Hegh'ta, when I managed to get out of combat the issue was fixed by replacing the non-functioning weapons for another ones (random ones) from my inventory. In my D'kora I warped out to sector and re-logged in, didn't try the changing weapons.



    I'll edit this one so I don't make new posts about the same:

    Edit: 4:33 PM. I think it just happened to me again, but not exactly the same issue: my weapons didn't stop firing, but they did stop autofiring. Was on my Hegh'ta heavy BoP in the transport attack mission from Pi Canis sortie Bravo group of missions. Didn't try to fix it because the mission was finishing but I did try toggleing on and off the autofire, didn't work.

    Aaaand last time I edit this post: 5:33 PM. Happened again with same toon, same ship as last time. I was finishing Pi Canis Sortie Alpha and a disruptor Dual Canon stopped firing. Tried pressing F12 twice and ALT + F12 twice too with no result. Didn't try anything else to fix it 'cause the mission was almost over.

    1) Did you experience this as a Fed or KDF (or both)?

    2) Which ship were you flying at the time?

    3) Were you on a PvP map? If no, were you on a queue'd map of some other kind? If yes, has anyone experienced this outside of PvP?

    4) If in PvP, which faction were you engaged against at the time? (FvF, FvK, KvK)

    5) Did it affect all weapons? If no, which were left active?

    6) When you were affected by this, did any of your other abilities stop working? If so, which ones?

    7) Did you notice any other active UI elements at the time of shutdown that normally are not active? (e.g., the Need/Greed Loot window, or accidentally hit ESC to bring up options, etc)

    8) If you managed to fix the issue, what was your solution? (I've heard dying and relogging, but does changing instances work? How about turning the UI off and on again with Alt-F12?)

    1, Fed

    2, Gal-R (the one that comes with the saucer sep console)

    3, It was in two different arena's, one was solar wind, the other I think was cracked but not positive.

    4, Both were FvF arena matches

    5, I was running an 8beam load out, it effected 3 beams on the front and 3 on the back both times. It only allowed a single beam to fire fore/aft. I believe it was the third from the left still worked fore, and second from the left aft still worked.

    6, Everything else seemed to work fine, I don't usually play with sound so I wouldn't notice any audio errors, but I didn't notice any issues with other abilities, the UI, or anything else not related to the nonfunctional weapons.

    7, repeat of 6, didn't notice anything unrelated to the weapons being effected.

    8, relogging seemed to work. I just got away from the combat, relogged, and it fixed it. I died and respawned (before relogging) and it didn't seem to change anything.


    Both times this occured I was target swapping very often specially between friendly and enemy targets, and I think that might be the source of the issue. But thats just my theory.

    I'm still attempting to track down solid repro steps on this. I'm spinning the topic off into a new thread because it became obvious that Confuse effects (while originally the most likely culprit) have turned out to not be the true and only cause of this.

    I have a few questions for anyone that has experienced this. Please think carefully about the answers and only answer if you are certain it is the truth. Good information will help lead to a solution to this problem.

    3. Not in pvp. Was in queued map no win scenario.

    5. No, forward antiproton beam array and bank were dead. Rear turrets and beam array were active. All torps normal. Un-equipping and re-equipping did nothing.

    8. Could not fix in instance. Leaving instance and joining another fixed.

    3- No, doing Ground Zero while leveling an Alt.
    5- Yes at first, after a minute or so the forward DBB and 2 Photons came back. I think it was after I activated Beam Overload and High yield. The rear turrets remained unable to fire until I changed maps.

    Happened again... third time today. Fed side, D'kora marauder, two turrets stopped firing and the other turrets and cannons stopped autofiring.It was at kerrat while trying to destroy some probes between scans.

    Fourth time today... looks like a bad day to play the game today for me... luckily most of the time it's happening to me in PvE maps. This time was, again, in Pi Canis Sortie Alpha, same mission as my previous post, almost same spot as previous post and same char with same ship. This time different weapons stopped firing and it didn't fix itself after substituting those weapons: they were my two aft disruptor turrets and I changed them by two different disruptor turrets but this time it didn't get fixed. When I warped out and got into another system they worked again.


    I don't know if keep posting this stuff... it's the same every time and I don't want to be tiring.

    5. first time all Front Weapons stop shooting, while the After Turrents still working.
    second time only 1 front Weapon are disabled
    6. On the Intrepid the Traktor beam where disabled from middle- till End of the game.

    This was a private challenge match with mav and siv.

    I'm in the sooper sexy ship.

    I didn't try the "die and respawn" fix. I just swapped out a cannon for a beam and moved on from there. I don't normally get hit with psw like, ever. So really this is the only time I've seen this since season six.

    Had this happen again in similar circumstances today

    1) Fed

    2) Bugship

    3) Arena map (I believe cracked planetoid)

    4) FvF (can't remember whether I was red or blue)

    5) This time it affected only 2 of my 4 forward DHC's. Row 4 columns 1 and 4. Aft weapons unaffected.

    6) I did not notice other powers non functional in this instance

    7) I did not notice any unusual UI elements.

    8) When the match ended and I re-zoned back into sol system, the problem had resolved itself. I did not die in the match, and didn't try relogging, as it was almost the end of the match

    Again, this happened after buffing up and firing upon a ship while getting hit by a tricobalt divice, shortly after a PSW.

    3) One times i had been in PvP (Briar Patch) and another time i did Ferderation Fleet Alert
    4) Fed vs Fed (PvP), Federation Fleet Alert (PvE)
    5) At first the Front weapons 2 Tet Dual heavy Cannons MK XII a few mins later the last Dual Heavy Cannon and the Tet Dual beam Bank MK XII
    Turrets have not been afflicted ( Weaponsdisplay: all afflicted weapons have been marked in a higher green colour like neongreen.)
    6) I dont detected that
    7)No
    8) relogging helped.

    btw after respawning with this weapon bug on me, my ship has been invisible. I could not see my ship anymore (PvE - Federation Starbase Defense). But that occured just one time with this bug. But it appeared 2 more times after respawning in a PvP map without that weapon bug. Solution was relogging.

    3. No PvP. This problem happens about 1 out of every 3 STF missions, and sometimes during Mirror Universe events.

    5. All weapons. Although, there was one instance where a torpedo kept firing every second. I think it might have been the transphasic flux torpedo. This happened in CSE while under the nanites. Cannons and turrets would not fire, but that torpedo kept rapid firing.

    6. To my knowledge, no abilities were affected.

    7. Does target clearing when clicking BOFF skills count? If not, nope.

    8. Usually I can wait it out and it will end after roughly 6-9 seconds, which leads me to believe that it's a lag issue. I've noticed that weapons stop firing but skills can still be used when there are connection problems. The last time this happened was yesterday during Khitomer Space Elite. The first incident was caused by lag since almost everything else went wonky and wouldn't work properly. It eventually caught back up and corrected itself. As a side note, this happened a few days ago too, and that was littered with sporadic server unresponsive messages until I logged out and then back in. The second incident was fixed by moving the ship. Turns out there was a space rock a third the size of my ship between me and a gateway, but that's the first time I've ever noticed that problem and space rocks in unison. Perhaps a coincidence.
