  I have the same problem Ive updated my sound and video card and its still not working.

  have you made sure your speakers are turned on?

  I have absolutely no sound in the game, loader or menu (I hear sounds in windows so my speakers are on :P).
  
  Sound device (codec): Realtek ALC889A (excuse my lack of knowledge in sound devices)
  OS: Windows XP 64bit SP2

  Looking further through the problem I found a thread to fix sounds for XP 64bit users and it did the job for me. If you are also using it here is your fix.

  My Star trek online has sound but it's all screwed up. For example instead of the phaser fire sounds it does normal background music. And then when I'm listening to people talk its all phaser fire! Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
