So, is the excitement of Fleet Projects gone already?

dracounguisdracounguis Member Posts: 5,358 Arc User
I was all excited about the fleet getting together and building a starbase. That was until I see how it's executed...

1.) You have to race your fellow Fleeties to contribute materials to projects. And it's an unfair race.

2.) The fleet ships require you to spend $20 after loads of mats spent on projects and grinding thousands of Fleet Marks. Come on, Cryptic. It's GRIND or PAY, not both.

3.) Fleet ships are just rehashes of OLD models with a barely noticeable new skin; & did I mention you have to spend $20 for them?

So for much grinding, maybe getting lucky to hit the project time just right to contribute something 'easy', & paying $20; I get the honor of running a re-skinned old ship model that has an extra console slot over other T5 ships. Did I miss anything?

Yup. It feels like some sort of Group DOFF system.

It's gone for me. After taking a good look at the fleet base system, my fleet and I decided not to use it. We haven't started any of the projects at all and have no plans to. It's just a massive long term grind. I'm back to logging on, check my DOffs, maybe run a STF or two, log back out. Will have to see about Season 7 now I guess.

for the record, I only have to spend 5 dollars for my fleet ship when we get to Tier 3 Shipyard. :D I already bought a Defiant Retrofit.

I stopped being excited the moment I saw how much fleet ships were going to cost even after all the grinding. I didn't even bother to join a fleet.

Oh, it's more than just a grind.

It's also a horrid resource sink! Yay?

Charging RL money *on top of* the time and resource dump is a bit (putting it nicely) greedy.

the huge numbers of duty officers required is a bit of a pain (As you can't GET white officers other than by buying hundreds of reinforcement packs)
the accad missions DO NOT START

Must admit im a bit miffed at this I thought it was going tobe If you unlocked the ship already all it would cost was fleet points. Theres only one ship i wanted anyway was a upgrade to the one i have already. anyway the GREED is going to kill my wanting to play. Gold is nice but maybe ill spend that money on Zen instead better returns!

    Grinding in an MMO? Unthinkable.

Seriously. While I dont agree with alot of it. What else is there to do in end game?
And who's to say they wont release NEW ships but in order to buy one you gotta have fleet credits AND ship modules in the future?

The amount of griping on these forums is getting out of hand. Hell they just ripped me off for $10 charging me a sub I didnt ask for(And only had active for 2 days), yet I still find all this griping a little crazy. If your not happy move on.

And posts about you didnt even bother to join a fleet? whats the point in an MMO if your not in a guild of some kind?

Other then Dilithium, you get more credits turning if fleet marks anyways over all the other "Easy" stuff.

Only gripe I have is outta the 8 ships I bought from the C store only one of them has a FLeet version. But having something for the fleet to build up and dump resources into is great.
I came from an MMO where you handed out resources to build up your Guild to get people to help. Here its hard to even get the chance to use them up as most easy turn ins are spammed as soon as they appear. Prob simply because they added a Leaderboard to it giving people credit for doing it, since mostly all you need is 20k for ships. Which again I see as a HUGE Possitive. Making people want to do it.

I see it as a heel of a start that will prob just get better as time goes on. If anyones actually thinking there will be a Free to play game thats fun that will NEVER have anything worth buying with real money, then its time to look for a new hobby.

But? BUT? That's exactly how it is at the moment.

I gave my starbase windows. Then I realized that the only thing I got from the "special fleet project" were 200,000 fleet credits that are way too easy to get. No XP for the starbase, nothing. I spend 200,000 dilithium for something I can do with the press of a button on my Constitution bridge. Opening the windows. Oh by the way, with another press of the button I can close them again there.

the accad missions will not work
they say they have a requirement (always the same for all of them)

and it doesn't matter how many of the required officer you have you CAN'T start the mission

Answering the OP, for me the excitement is kinda gone, because I expected the requirements to be like "either you give dilithium to build the starbase (for long-time players) or you give white DOff if you can't afford to give Dil (for people that just started), and, well, commodities that are easily affordable" but the fact that you have to pospone (sp?) your plans for Z-Store purchases because fleet projects ask for Dil AND get more DOff slots to recruit white ones so you don't loose the purples you already have... meh.

Not like I expected it to be easy (that would be disappointing) but at least I thought we would be able to choose whithin a range of possibilities for donations.

Are you griping about people griping on the forums??? If "your" not happy with people griping, why don't "you" leave the forums or ignore posts about people griping.

Sorry, I must have missed the Memo, where does it say I have to join a guild in an MMo?

It astounds me that anyone can defend the decision to charge full C-Store prices for a per character ship, after we were assured they wouldn't do per character ships when they were going F2P, after we were told fleet ships would cost significantly less. I cannot fathom anyone not holding a business to some kind of standard.

Can someone help me out here on understanding that?

Well, you do pay significantly less for a fleet ship if you already have the C-Store version of that ship.

Tell that to the Klingons. They have no discounted ships at all. Even for feds that's a minority of ships, since it only counts for T5 C-Store unlocks. No vet reward ships, no lower tier ships you paid for, only T5 and only if you already paid for it once.

Its also unfair to those that aren't fleet leaders because fleet leaders can see what's needed way before they even assign the project. Which gives them time to gather all the materials needed before they start the project, and then donate as soon as its started, giving them the much sought after Fleet Credits.
Make it so everyone can see before hand.

The OP still has it right, its grind OR pay, not both.

The way it usually works is:
Want something free = Your gonna have to dump a LOT of playtime in.
Want something quickly = Cash please!

Expecting both is just plain greedy.

Please excuse this aside but if you know where the button is, please share. There's another thread discussing this and we haven;t found it yet.

I think that the Doff missions from the academy might be broken

    I did them all . . . once.
Now they have been grayed out for about 3 days. All the info I can find says the CD is 24 hours, definitely been longer than that.

Ugg, those aren't exactly a source of doffs then are they.
    Max of 16 every 5 days, wonderful. . . .

The general recruitment one that gives you the 5 pack is shorter than the rest.

Which I always found to be weird....

The more I learn about the system, the less I like it. The more I play the Gozer grindfests, the less I like them as well.

It gave me something fun to do for a few days until Foundry returns. But it's not something that I'm going to fully participate in.

I'll contribute some dilithium and supplies here and there, but unless my fleet has a few masochists, the whole project is going to fizzle out.

And, unless some major changes are made, I can't imagine the starbase really becoming a social hub for the ugc community.

Maybe if they do something with the holodeck that doesn't involve mindless grinding, then it might have a longer shelf life for me.

You can always get your Zen by grinding dilithium. No one is holding a gun to your head to make you pay, you just need to adjust your grinding priorities.

Well I think I can vouch for {UFP} when I say we're all enjoying it and just got Tier 1 for Military!

Most of us hang out at the starbase as well so it is indeed a hub already even though there is nothing to do yet. I'm not sure what the rest of you were expecting, what other way could they have done it that didn't involve grinding, welcome to every MMORPG endgame. At least it involves doing it with a bunch of friends and fleetmates and not by yourself in some closed off instance with strangers.

The contribution problems are going to disappear in a few weeks once we get to around Tier 3 when the amount required to start a project exponentially goes up and I'm looking forward to it.

The saddest part is, all these ships are just nerfed pieces of TRIBBLE.
