Today, I consecutively played the 20-man Starbase Fleet Defence a total of three times and observed an sound-related bug.
After the first Starbase Fleet Defence, voiceover from the event continues to play after I left the zone and entered Earth Space Dock. The voiceover just keeps playing on a repeat loop every minute or so regardless of where I am.
While playing a second Starbase Fleet Defence, I noticed a slight jerkiness in my graphics that wasn't there during my first attempt. I also noticed the voiceover sound seem to be stacked, as if the two voiceovers was played at nearly the same time. After I left the game map, the "double voiceover" effect continues to follow me from zone to zone.
On my third attempt at Starbase Fleet Defence, the game was nearly unplayable. I was getting one frame of graphics per second and this time it sounds like multiple voiceovers were being played simultaneously, resulting in a jumble of voices.

Aha! I posted about a similar issue a few hours back. It seems to be causing a massive amount of cpu usage that predictably chokes out your fps.
EDIT
here is the thread I posted. Seems I should have looked harder before posting! xD
I'm getting this bug too. It's fine during the mission (I think) but when I leave when it's over, every time I load into a map like 10-15 voice overs all play at once then subside, then if I stay in the map long enough a voice over might play randomly once in a while.
But yeah, FPS gets bad and eventually the game crashes. Probably due to the CPU load captainoblivious mentioned.
Also, during that mission during the big battles it gets to a point where the sound FX seems to just give up. All the firing noises, explosions and things just fade into the background and all I can hear is the 'dramatic' STO background music playing. Can't hear my shipboard computer giving warnings either (like "hull below 75%", or "shield facing down" etc).
YEesh, I heard that bug, often. However, it made me think my computer just couldn't handle so many starships flying around in one instance, firing all those weapons... and my computer is pretty beefy.
Hope they fix this soon, don't want to have to reset the game everytime I want to play one.

I've had the same problem and the first time I got a laugh out it because it was funny until I left the battle and the voices were still going in sector space. The only way I was able to stop it was to exit the game and restart. Now every time I go into that battle I almost want to turn off all my audio because it just gets out of hand. The times it really starts go haywire is also when my fps becomes so bad I can't move much and I just want to smash my head on the keyboard.
I have been experiencing this issue as well, I see from the forums people have been saying this is not server lag, but machine processing lag.
Well this is my Machine specs
Desktop
Intel(R) core(TM) i7-2700 CPU @ 3.50GHz 3.50 GHz
16 GB (4 x 4GB) DDR3 SDRAM Corsair Vengeance
3 TB 3 x 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM 6Gb/s 32MB
AMD Radeon HD 7970 GHz
Window 7 64 bit
If you are telling me that my Machine can't keep up with this game. What the hell are they running in the background code.

I've observed this as well as the aforementioned bug of audio loops. But this and missing FX is by far the more problamatic issue, it' killed me a few times as i've taken a big burst, not instantly notcied, (lining a good shot up with grav well or focusing on a TBR run), and then died before i can pick up on it and do anything.
I've also noticed when this starts happening the cooling fans on my computer kick into overdrive just to try to cool down my computer because of the heat created form working even harder to try and keep up.

It's machine processing lag caused by really horrible code -- basically it pounds your machine with sound files.
It's not "server side" because it's your computer, not the server, that's being forced to try to play umpteen copies of the same sound files over and over.
No, it's not saying there's anything wrong with your computer. There is however, something wrong with Cryptic's software.

re: fleet defense- The overlaid sound re-occured for about 5 secs whenever I changed maps (moved sectors, entered new event, etc). Haven't done that event since as it was so broken. Shame, as I like it.
Even idling in sector space afterwards, CPU was working much more than normal (48%) on all 4 cores trying to keep up. (normal load ~20-30%%, even in events).

Do something about this Cryptic!
