The original STO logo has a tactical sign on it

snowlilisnowlili Member Posts: 34 Arc User
I've noticed that the original STO logo has a tactical sign on it.

The latest ST movie poster also has a tactical sign on it.

It is the same sign that STO has for a tactical career choice during its character creation.

Does this mean that STO favors a tactical career path? If not, why the tactical sign?

Thanks.

Pretty sure the Original Delta logo in your first link was the original Perpetual design (I really don't like it myself). STO is currently using the blank Delta to promote the game. Yes, the Tac sign is used to represent the Tac career (also for certain powers eg Tactical Team).

The star actually is for the Command division, not tactical.

I was just about to say this, and then I saw this comment.

It's merely Cryptic who in their extreme lack of Star Trek understanding thought "OH MAN... If he is in command he must like tactical".
Don't look silly... Don't call it the "Z-Store/Zen Store"...
Let me put the rumors to rest: it's definitely still the C-Store (Cryptic Store) It just takes ZEN.

I don't think it was lack of understanding. I think it was a deliberate change to align Star Trek's three iconic colors into Tank, Heals, and DPS to attract RPGers.

I believe its simply marketing. The command symbol just makes a whole lot more sense in 2012 then the weird circles of the sciences or the funny arch thingy of operations. Both those designs are far to 1960's to make sense today.

Also, a star with a longer north point. its a pretty universal symbol of awesome.

Yeah one of my top 10 failures in this game :D

I' am totally surprised when I hit SECURITY escort and get 8 of my commanding officers beamed to the ground instead of yellow-shirt security officers. Ok the Redshirt-joke is funny, but thats too much.

That's not the original logo. In fact each department had their own.

I hate to link to a store but this is the best example I can find right off:

I think it was called Command back then as noted up above. Sulu wore it as well:

But yes, most commanders would be coming out of there. At least for combat ships.

As others have said it meant Command, everyone in charge of ships eventually went to Command school but the people in Command division were usually the ones that were going to get a ship.

In a game where everyone gets to command you needed a tweak so folks could fall into easy to understand groups that were color coded so Command is tactical. Security and tactical (combat/fighting)being linked are easier for people to understand so it was moved. Department colors were changed a few times in trek, and info is easily found on the net.

The first link on the first row is a chart that shows the color changes we saw from the cage through TNG

In one of the futures shown command ends up blue in the 2800's. The 1st one on the second row has the Blue command uniforms..

In addition to this each ship also had its own logo. The familiar delta was not the official Star Fleet logo. The Delta was adopted as the Official logo to honor the contributions of the Enterprise 1701, under the command of James T Kirk.

If you close out the popup of just the picture, it should drop you in on the page where those pictures are.
