I find it so humerous to see comments like the op's on these forums. In STO you have nothing to loose in PVP.

To the OP: Go play EVE. I think you will love it.

Hate to say this , but the pet spam is what turned me off pvp (back in the days of the KDF spam) , so now instead of having fun in space pvp , I just pug for dilithium .
What can I say ... , it's just not fun when you can't see a single target because of all the spam .
But I have read 2/3 of this thread , so I'm ready to be accused of "butthurt" .
Enjoy the spam then . :o

You have to to better than that if you're going to be called "butthurt." Maybe you'd like to join in on calling everyone in general "Basement dwellers" :P

Yes, PVP is wandering merrily off into P2W territory, being a foaming lunatic about it won't accomplish much.

Just wait for the QQ when fleet ships start entering the fray :D

As the 10 console ships are fleet made , I'm not sure that that can be called p2w ... -- more like craft to win .

Yeah ... well , I do have a bit of a QQ there as 3 of my ships (galor/excelsior/grumba) are not gonna get the 10 console treatment . :(

Now if they would just add a windshield wiper for carrier spam , I'd be all for that ! :P

You are aware that you can set whether the enemy's pets are shown with name and rectangle around them or not? Under Options-HUD, just configure to not show enemy officers that way. And suddenly, all that you see with their names displayed are players.

Yeah , but when I try to click in said enemy player and all I manage to target is a pet (time and time again) -- well ... not so much fun .
Besidse , pvp is supposed to be player vs player , not player vs player AI .

I don't want to come off too negative , I just posted about something that by in large took the fun out of PVP for me .
If it helps , I did think that things were going to get even worse for me with Gozer's plan of non-faction pvp . All I saw there was a giant fed-kdf pet spam called pvp .

Low level pvp is where it's at for me .
Less build focus , less accusations of "god ships/builds" , more player skill focus . :)

You can still click on them though, even if you don't realy see them well, and tabbing will also highlight them. It's definitely an improvement, though, and I believe Season 6 will also bring a change to make pets t heir own category, so you can see "normal" NPCs fine, and pets without that.

I still think it would be better if pet wings were a single targetable group. That would reduce the clutter from 12 ships per carrier to 4 per carrier. That's manageable. (It could also apply to Photonic Fleet)

Then I won't post abusive lol-ponies at you.

I'm a bit confused on that, I though that someone would have to first buy a C-Store ship, then throw the fleet improvement in on top of it.

Though, to be fair, p2w is a bit of an exaggeration, the same ships are available via g2w (grind to win). :D

Yeah, I have a sad about the Garumba, though I don't have one yet.

hmm... but if you set the pets to be hidden, doesnt that mean you will not be able to see heavy torps, tricobs and tric mines? That sounds about as bad as a cluttered UI... :/

you know the pvp gameplay may not be perfect, some matches i get mauled in some matches i do the mauling, im not the greatest of pvp'ers but i believe i can hold my own. Sure some of the mechanics seem broken but all in all i still enjoy it.

but calling people names and making generalizations, really? You are not going to win every match you get in, but you will have some hard matches and some easy matches, my personal favorites are the ones where neither team steamrolls the other and you actually have to work for a win.

im not gonna tell you to l2p, but i will say this, learn from each and every battle, i cant tell you how many times i have tweaked my build to find a nice balance between survivability and destruction. still not the greatest but atleast im making an effort and not flaming everyone because i lost a match.

I was wondering about that myself. Targetable torps and mines count as "pets." And yes, I do want to see those...

LOL ... PvP... Ok I'm not the best at it but I am far from being the worst at it also ... I figure I am somewhere in the top 10 or 15% .... I only spam DPS on almost all of my toons because for real its suppose to be PvP .... Not player vs another player and a gazzillion pets or a bunch of P2W stuff but since that is what PvP has really turned into I decided to make me a spam toon just to fight against the ever growing spam that we are seeing in PvP and I discovered something in the process... There is 1 guy that has been able to repeatedly kill me every time I run across him when I am on 1 of my normal toons but yesterday when I was on my spam toon not only was he not able to kill me but I actually killed him twice.... So now I get it..... all this spam and P2W TRIBBLE really lets a lot of average or below average players compete with the above average players to a certain extent....And I must admit running a complete spam build is fun to horse around with..... But at the end of the day players that run these spam builds really need to ask themselves .... Am I really good or do I need the spam as a crutch to make me look good ... I personally know the guy that my spam build took out is better than me in a straight up PvP... So for you guys that really are good players but choose to use your spam builds or your spam fleets .... Shame on you .... I say lets get back to PvP ..... And not all of this Player vs spam and somewhere hidden in there another player BS.....

People people your missing the point of this thread. It is not about the hurting of the buttock or whether I (the OP) am good or bad at PvP. The point is that STO PvP in and of itself is bad. Is it even possible to be bad at PvP in this game? (the exception being the complete beginner) It took me about an hour of forum reading and 4 hours of actual game play to become good at being a healing cruiser capt. It took me slightly more time to become good at playing a high damage escort. I know a few others in game who had a similar learning curve. I understand the wish of some of you to make the game out to be something more than it is but come on now.

I see another common theme in most of the responses:

"I got me Skills, u don't byatccch". Lol a doctor has skills. An engineer has skills. Most of you on these forums are grown men trying to live in a video game (the mechanics of which are based on pre-algebra mathematics). I would venture to guess that it takes longer to train a McDonald's employee than it does to get "good" at STO PvP.

Yup, PWE forum does not come with "report" buttons. So the mods would have to read everything and all that is written on the forum in order to do efficient moderating. This would take the whole cryptic crew...

So for now (until cryptic goes to the zen store and buys a report button upgrade) only those threads that happen to be read by a dev/mod will be moderated.

Well, there's no fear of the PVP section being moderated then! LMAO.
