I just noticed the new ship variants for both the Federation and the KDF are up on Tribble. I'm really excited that such things as T5 Novas and a Defiant with 5 tac consoles will be acquirable by earning fleet credits and leveling up your fleet base.
I am concerned, however, that certain ships do not (yet) have "fleet" versions. The Prometheus and Excelsior, in particular, are not represented: does this mean that two of my favorite ships are eventually going to be at a disadvantage compared to the ships with an extra console slot? Or, will "fleet" versions of those eventually arrive?
Then again, Oddys and bortas have an extra console slot already...
A part of me loves this, but on the other hand I wonder if ships like these are exactly what should be saved for Tier 6...though I'd have no problem with them still being unlockable through fleet base work.
One further question: many of the ships require 20,000 points and 1 other item. What is that other item and how do you get it?

all are good except the fleet/retrofit nova. fleet nova need better shields and one more console. compare the fleet saber to the fleet nova and u'll see what i mean. there both from the same tier.
Just an FYI, I listened to the Priority One Ship Yard Supplement podcast and from what they said this is a very early build of the Fleet Ships and they are already a few ahead. They didn't mention if the Akira Retrofit has the hanger bay so I guess I have to wait and see for an update ship list.

Cryptic should revise the Tier system. Given that you got Tier 2 ships at Tier 5++ (should be Tier 6), they should give you a choice to upgrade your old ships as you level up.
Anyhow, I'm not too happy with Sovereign Refit's stats. It more of an Excelsior slot than a Sovereign. Sure I love the LT Universal and the LtC Tactical, but it really lost it's tankability. Which is part of the reason why I love the Sovereign, it has a nice balanced nature of attack, defense, and manuverability.
With the Qin Refit, there really wasn't anything offered but an extra console slot. While the Somraw is the Tanking Raptor, the Qin should have at least an Ensign Universal slot.

In the latest Priority One interview with Al Rivera, he mentioned the difficulty of having upgradeable ships. Basically, it is far easier to come up with the same ship for every tier than add upgradability to the game since each ship has a specific model which indicates weapon slots, bridge slots, and console slots. Having upgradeable ships would either require building the engine from scratch or spend months on figuring out some type of workaround.
He also mentioned that if STO 2 came out, then it might be set this way where the warp engine will determine the tier level. A Mk II warp engine would give the same slots as a Tier 1 ship while a Mk XII warp engine would give the same slots as a Tier 5.5 ship. Would be using the same ship, but more power to run the weapons, consoles, and bridge officers' stations.
I'm gonna grab me a Scourge, only yesterday I wished I could trade the lance for more turn and murder-fish good looks. Where can I find out about the process of getting these ships?
Also, making the Somraw and the Scourge basicly the same ship, only one with less turn but more hull and a cloak is missing a trick. Lieutenant Sci KDF escort would be particularly nice.

Agreed. I'd also have like to have seen one on the Intrepid to allow a Bellerophon style BOFF layout.

No Galazxy X this round, they said if its a C-Store ship with powers build in, like the Phaser Lance, then they didn't know how to make a fleet version. Its suppose to be combine C-Store ship console with Fleet ship to make uber ship, but if its like the Excelsior or the Galaxy X then they didn't figure out this release, but they said they are working on future ship releases with updates.
FYI, from the Priority One interview I almost got the feeling that the 1000 day vet ship for the Fed is a tier 5 Conni, just from some of the things they said.

I totally agree with you regarding the Sovereign refit. I love the balance of the Sovereign as well, and with this boff arrangement the balance is lost. I hope this is only the 1st version and will change with further updates.
I find the sovereign interesting. However I am disappointed with the heavy cruiser and fleet heavy cruiser. Couldn't had we gotten either the science excelsior or something sovereign light, please?

You know, I think you might be onto something.
Pretty much we are stuck with ships we don't want to fly with configurations we want. Or ships we want to fly with configurations we don't want.
So maybe they should go back to the drawing board and revamp it where we could fly the ships we want with the BO configuration we prefer. And while they are at it, redo the Ship System where we could level up with the ships we want. That way Fleet ships won't be +2 over old T5 ships and +1 over C-store ships and making us feel like idiots for buying these things. (I sure don't want to pay $20 for a console and a ship skin I might never use again).
i have been wanting a refit version of the fleet escort for a long while but how are they going to make a version of the TRIBBLE little saber a higher shipyard tier than the refit derverish? and what exactly is going to be stats on the destroyer and fleet destroyer
For instance, the refit 'patrol' escort is T1, the refit Intrepid is T5. Both seem unchanged from their originals other than the standard hp, shield and console increases.

1) Teamwork and timing is #1
