So I made a new fresh starfleet officer and attempted to search for missions to play, after some difficulty finding any of the top rated I think maybe I have figured this out?

If we don't have access to the sector the mission is in, is the mission restricted from our search?

For example the longing is in a sector the new player won't be able to access,so when searching for the longing I get no result.

is this how it works?

if this is how it works at what levels do you unlock travel to different sectors,

I know I have no option to vistit the orange sectors on the map.

Yeah for the most part missions are level restricted. The exception being Federation vs Klingon missions. I think they're open to everyone. If you're playing as a Klingon, I think there's a particular mission you have to do first before you're allowed to play community authored missions.

So yeah, that's how it works. You won't see "The Longing" because it's level 41 I think and above. Though it's not based on the sectors. I think you open up missions based on your levels. Klingons are unrestricted. Though the presence of Romulans in the level will bump the level cap up to 21. The presence of True Way Cardassians/Jem'Hedar will bump the cap up 31. Then Borg/Undine can only be present in missions for 41 and above.
