From what I've seen so far, right now when you create a space map you usually enter it the first time from a door in a sector block map.
I usually use the Pi Canis Sector block and enter the map via the Xanatine system while I am building the mission, then change it later on.
What do you think about being able to place Doors in the various cluster maps? Ships are always being sent to explore the clusters. Seems logical that some missions should take place in systems off these clusters.
I would love love love LOVE to have UGC exploration missions that count towards completing the star cluster missions. That would be the perfect interim for improving the clusters further until we get the full overhaul in season 5 (or whenever it was).
I haven't looked but can you use the "edge" of a sector block as a door? I don't think you can, but if you could, this would serve as the same thing...approach B'Tran, get a popup to explore whatever custom mission you have.

You can't. It's only specific systems, or the whole sector.
Here's the trick:
Dstahl said they're redesigning Star Clusters radically (and hopefully sooner rather than later).
From his recent interview, dstahl said they're going for storylines in each Exploration Cluster, with more persistent aspects in each one - similar to the Deferi Sector Block but with your actions playing a much larger role.
He also stated that he'd love to hook Foundry missions up in those exploration clusters - possibly integrating them into the overarching storyline and nebula-wide events.
So, they might hook them up but there's no telling when they're going to start redesigning things.
Who knows what the new Foundry build will have in store if it hits before the end of January.
However, I was impressed by some authors who stated in their missions that System X was located beside Vulcan (for example)... so you would be like wtf? Checking your map, then going to vulcan, and its a entrance message for Vulcan called Warp to System X etc.
The best example I came across of such usage was where it was simply said "We should be able to get a triangulated fix on comet's present location if we align ourselves close to the Andorian Sun"...
Exploration sector doors would be a win if they could note that point.
Well, a system near a major one in-game would still be feasible. There's BILLIONS of stars in our galaxy, and the Federation has 150-ish member worlds in an area spanning almost a thousand LY. That means there's literally millions of other systems within their borders that aren't technically part of it.
