Is there a way to change my character's rank and ship, etc for my Foundry character?
only way is the long way: rank up. but be warned- it takes a while unless you go through the attack on vega colony tutorial again. however, you can work the system, and make things easier by equipping yourself with non- standard issue weapons through using dropped loot in map testing.
Also, is there a way to share a mission with a friend so they can test it before I publish it?
nope. not yet. there is the future option of allowing people to import your unpublished mission for them to help work on with you and play test, but its not active yet
Some more questions:
Is there a way to change the project name permanently? Every time I change it and save my project afterwards with the new name, it has the old name next time I'm starting the foundry again.
Is the number of maps I can make for one project limited to two maps? I could not save my project as soon as I added a third map.

Try to publish the project after you've changed its name. If this doesn't work then you're probably experiencing a bug. If the project has never been published, I think that's a bug as well!
Next question:
Is there a possibility to copy and paste a whole map or even the whole project? I found the options but they are grayed out.
I want to make an English and German version of the same story and don't want to design the same thing from the scratch only to change dialogs.
I can think of a lot more cool functions like beaming NPC in and out, or changing hostile NPCs to friendly ones vice versa or teleporting in different places on the same map or making non linear story lines ... or ... or ...
Nevertheless the FOUNDRY is a really fun story telling tool.

Very true, and here are some links to more cool Foundry stuff:
I think once I managed to duplicate my project by importing it.
I'm not sure but on Tribble I haven't been able to locate my project so I could import/duplicate it, perhaps it was a bug that allowed you to do this. I'm of the firm opinion that edit functions are necessary for us to be able to produce anything with efficiency and this goes beyond mission/map export/import and sharing/collaboration issues.
BTW thank you for the links. http://starbaseugc.com is a great help resource. The star base attack tutorial was new to me - I'm gone try that immediately.
I have definitely imported my own mission and used the maps from the previous one and then renamed it and kept whatever I wanted. Renames are not effective until published... so I had 2 missions in the editor with the same name for a while... Use the "last modified" option for listing them and make a note on the title page so you do not TRIBBLE up the original.

I have a question of my own. Sorry, to the OP for the hijack.
Not sure if its been asked, but will we be able to transfer our projects to holodeck when foundry goes live? Basically dont want to lose any work...im planning to do a long term project.
At this point it seems highly unlikely for a direct transfer from one to the other. Many authors are doing cut and paste jobs into .txt files in an attempt to make the eventual transfer easier...
Others are simply holding back on doing major epics and just trying to learn to use the tool set. I've just been going for broke and trying to break the thing and find out what is possible and to find ways to make things work for my needs so that we'll know what is really required before release to Holodeck.
I always believed that practice makes perfect. Seeing as the ability to share projects between co-operating authors is not available, the editing process for one individual is very difficult at best and next to impossible for people using English as a second language. The current limitation of 8 missions lends itself to getting the editing and polishing up to par instead creating lots of individual missions.
As far as importing any project, including one of my own... I think I just got lucky and it was a bug , as I could not repeat this last night. Thank god for small miracles... copying any kind of intricate map placements with many, many different objects tied together is a nightmare at best and impossible to get exactly right without some kind of copying method...
I've seen it suggested that having two Foundry editors running simultaneously was used to copy from Redshirt closed beta to Tribble open beta, but I don't have access to Redshirt to try this.

Well that's sad news - so we have to wait for some patch.

I'm here to confirm both statements. Copying a very detailed storyboard and/or map is a very inefficient process. (and I'm being kind here!)
Using two STO clients to port my mission from RedShirt to Tribble was a lot better than copying the mission first to a text file and then back to the Foundry, so I would recommend using Tribble and Holodeck STO instances to do the same when the Foundry launched on Holodeck; of course this will be a moot point if Tribble Foundry missions are purged once the Foundry launched on Holodeck, but I refuse to panic before panic is justified!

I didn't want to wait because as NB said, practice is valuable in its own right. I prefer to practice now, perfect later, but YMMV.
Alright. That sounds about what i expected....well hopefully they wont purge everything outright. I doubt it anyway, there's a good amount of quality work floating around already.

Yep, I totally agree!
I now can confirm that changing between the same two maps for several times (like f.e. beaming in and out in several places on the same map) is not possible too. At least I found no method.
It seems that the first spawn point of a map is the one the system is always referring to as the default one of this certain map. As soon as I've added a second one I could not change maps any more. I tried it with rename spawn points, adding respawn points (so this worked, but just for one single time). I then thought of copying and pasting the entire maps but the C&P options are greyed out - so I 'm in a little bit of a dead end at the moment.
Just for not being misunderstood: The Foundry is a great storytelling tool!
I've been out of the game for a little while but I'm back with word of this Genesis project and this Foundry I've heard of. I've updated my game and everything but I've got one problem....
I can't access the Foundry!! I got to the part where it says "Content Authoring" but I can't create a charcter because the "New Character" switch is locked out. I see it but I can't click it on.
Am i doing something wrong? Did I forget to download something?

Guess I'll just play the main game....
It's only available on Tribble Test Server - the main game has the interface for it, but it's not turned on. It's in beta testing on the test server. So if you want to try it, hop over to Tribble.

I think I'm finally signed up but it seems they are having difficulties with being able to copy characters to the server and I'm not the only one reporting that.

Yes. But you can log into Tribble and create one from scratch if you want. The only downside with that is that you have to play through the tutorial again before it lets you access the playable missions (if you want to play some other people's Foundry creations) but otherwise, you can just get in there and start creating stuff using the Foundry tools.
You need to create an ensign test character for the Foundry anyway - it doesn't accept a real character or a copy. So it doesn't matter if you can't copy your real character to the test server if all you want is to test the Foundry creation tools.

No, that's definitely a bug, or you're doing something wrong, somehow...
edit: Multiple maps are definitely possible. It was my fault - not at bug. I did not name the new map. As soon as I did so I could save the project.

Yep, will do so. At the moment I'm working at this teleport problem I've mentioned. As soon as I have a solution I am happy with I'll post it there.
