When will npc animations function for published missions?

SystemSystem Member, NoReporting Posts: 178,019 Arc User
So? When? My missions look TRIBBLE with people standing on chairs or just standing around in general. How are we supposed to rate missions when basic functions don't function? My Orion Queen can't Seduce me with her dance... It really ruins the experience for me... I can only imagine the grief other players have as well.

This is a basic functionality issue... How can we know things are working when they don't work at all?

Why should we even bother with them at all?

Please turn the NPC animations on... You're Killin' Us over Here...

They're either working on releasing a bunch of Foundry improvements together as a new patch release or they are having their Christmas party. Either way, we're going to have to be patient. :)

Are they not functioning after publishing? or only while previewing a map?

NPC animations only function in the editor... When published and played normally they do not.

well considering i can get npcs making interactions with things such as consoles, get them to beam in (kind of) when I see fit(I still need to throw a pop-up dialog to make them do it properly), warping in, and I haven't really played with much else in my mission(tried warp out/beam out- but they are currently broken) as of yet.

SOME animations do work properly, while others don't. Its just a matter of working around the limitations. instead of having them sit there, have them stand up by the bar and engage in conversation or something. Just find a way around until foundry gets its update

    UGC
    • Many stability improvements have been made.
    • Misc improvements to the Project Editor. Moved the buttons, improved the layout, etc.
    • Fixing exterior map snaps that were missing after a publish. Also should eliminate an error about map
    • snap resolution being too high.
    • There has been a UI pass over the Story Editor:
    • Titlebars on all every node describe what this node is
    • The whole node is no longer draggable, so you don't get the flickering hand.
    • Consistent Play and Trash button in the properties window.
    • Consistent title in the properties window.
    • Better looking Grant Mission Prompt and selected node highlighting.
    • Fix for bug where you could no longer interact with a mission node.
    • Adding a scroll bar to asset library description.
    • Make asset library picker windows modal. Should prevent awful things like maps being deleted while open in the picker
    • Fix problem where having a deferred UGC mission would incorrectly re-init all missions instead of just the UGC mission on the player.
    • Fix for crash when deleting a component off of an objective would cause the map the objective is on to change.
    • Fix for encounter system crash that shows up in UGC map preview. (COR-11850)
    • Fix a positional bug with the UGC search details text"
    • Search UI Improvements have been made
    • Fixed the duplicate Marauder Battle Barge ship costumes. They have been changed to properly show
    • "Varanus Fleet Support Vessel" and "Vulcan D'Kyr Vessel."
    • Disable foundry search tabs in mission UI until fed players have completed the tutorial

well apart from the last change, i am liking the sounds of what bthey have done to UGC. a shame my interwebz is on my mobile phone until Jan 17th(i have about 7GB access left before i pay through my teeth)- i would LOVE to sink my teeth into this

I'm asking for calrification. Things ahve changed since I was in Closed Beta.

For me, NPC mob animations still work work (though wandering doesn't work until after publish).

Not quite sure what the OP was getting at, so I asked for clarification. :)

NPC animations do not function in published missions outside of the editor... What part of that do you not understand? If you have an NPC sitting in a chair... when you play the mission outside the editor they will be standing on the chair... Is that clear enough for you?

My NPC that cowers in fear is now cowering in fear properly on the published mission.

    But......

Now the NPC mob ships that I costumed so that bad guys could appear to be friendly aren't wearing their costumes.

The foundry giveth, the foundry taketh away. :D

Interesting... I lost my NPC costumes in space & my ground NPC just stand on their chairs and medical beds... My Dancing Orion Girls won't dance either... and something with ground combat feels different...

Hmm, I only have the one cowering NPC. The rest are stationary. Maybe certain actions work and others don't? Or maybe its just my mistaken rememberance. If you get a chance, play my mission and tell me if it works? When you beam down to the planet, you have to talk to an NPC doctor and her cowering research buddy. Let me know if she isn't cowering. Facility of Fools is the title.

What is your mish and I will test it out and see if they behave diff for me...

Hmmm... let me think... My problem is that I have 6 connected episodes...

Dancing Orion Girls are a feature at the end of episode 1 - Rescue - .

    Episode 2 - Re-Ani-Rescue - is fine.

Ship skins are not an issue until episode 3 - The Gauntlet Falls - The Orion Queens Flagship should be an Orion Dreadnought

Episode 4 - Into the Breach - has ship skins issues - the same as above

Episode 5 - My Thorns Have Roses Has Ship skin issues the same as above and animation issues with the Queen's Flagship Dream Sequence.

Episode 6 - Memory Alpha and Beta - Has Ground NPC animation issues with the very first map Memory Beta and the next to the last Map with the Queen's Bed Chamber & the Ceremony Hall.

I also had issues with NPC's getting killed after taking collateral damage in some of the fights... I solved this by changing to a pop-up dialog instead of talk to contact. So Maybe I'll give them weapons as well...

TRIBBLE. Went to play rescue, got to Honad, and got a message saying tribble is coming down in 5 minutes. I'll hit it agin as soon as it comes up.

Are they actually doing some kind of maintenance or patch?

main issue was NPC actors set with idle animation of sit in chair or sit + anything else

they would not be sitting, either they would be standing or running around really fast

    after publish

not all NPC animations are crippled in this way:

I know the decloak, warp in, and beam in animations work, as well as the various interaction animations.

sitting in chairs and beam out/warp out may be broken, yes- but that doesnt mean every animation is broken

I just played rescue. The green ladies dance when they are supposed to be dancing. Too bad I didn't have any singles to tip them with....

I just tried my mission again and none of the NPCs are doing any animations still.

Do you have to republish? Because I tried that yesterday and they still weren't doing animations. How about chat bubbles? Are they not working still either?

I think some of the more complex animations might still not be working...like ones with snap-ins to onjects like lying down (on a bed). All I have seen work are Napoleans green dancing ladies and my cowering research assistant.

Give me a mission name of yours and I will play thru it and see whats up if I can.

Anyone want to test mine for me, its "Facility of Fools". Thanks.

My medical patients were laying down... my "chained to wall" beasties were working and my "scan standing" & "scan kneeling" were working fine as well as "clap". "Hover clawing energy" did not function as well as space ally ship skins... space NPC Contact skins funtioned normally.

Over All I'm very pleased... My missions function very well now. Close enough for full enjoyment...

You can test my missions in my signature if you want, but today I withdrew them completely and then republished them again and now the animations are working!

My Orion slavegirls dance and the background characters chat! :) So now I'm pleased with those.

Now, the only things broken again by the latest patch seem to be NPC Ship Contact costumes (the all show up as alien cruisers no matter what you set them to) and NPC space groups don't seem to wander any more.

hopefully my withdrawl and republish of my mission will have also fixed the delayed warp in animation.

Unfortunately for me- i wont be able to test it myself, since I will be spending too much time rubberbanding
