Video Tutorial - Idle Animations, Chat Animations and Chat Bubbles

I had some trouble with the video quality of this one, but hopefully it is useful to you, if you don't know how do some of it. You may have to turn your monitor brightness up to watch it.

NPC idle animations, chat animations, and chat bubbles:

Thanks!

    Awsoeme,

I didnt have a chance to play around with costumes much at all so this was very helpful.

Is the idea similar for ships?

Yes, I beileve that you can costume ships to different ones, but the ship will fire the weapons of what it used to be. So, a Romulan warbird skinned as a Fed Runabout (if that's possible?) will fire disruptors and blow you to bits.

I tried following your tutorial, but perhaps they've changed features. For one thing, Single Targ is no longer available, and secondly, no matter what, no Group NPC, even when changed to a Single Costume (of which there are very few now, and none of them Orion) none of them have idle animations anymore, or wander animations, or any other options beyond position, name, and behavior.

I keep trying to make a Ensign scan the wall in Engineering, but I can make single people, just squads...

hmmmm... that's strange. I guess that is to be expected with beta changes.

edit: I just logged into the foundry on Tribble and it's still the same. Single Targ is 2nd from the top of npc groups. All the animation options are still there.

Click on the group to change all that stuff, not on the individual within the group, except for costumes.

Therein lies the problem. I just want one person at a time. I don't want a group. Or worse, I want three, not five.

And this is why the single targ under npc groups comes in handy. Or, if you really want to use a Klingon just move the other 4 outside of the map or underground, if they're not part of your objective.

That's the thing. The Single Targ isn't there anymore... No single anything in NPC Groups anymore.

Thats... sort of what I said in the first post....

EDIT: Never mind, I looked again. There is still a Single Targ. But now if you try and change that targ to anything else, there are no other single things except Targ and Attack Saur. The rest of the options are all Groups, which you wanted to avoid in the first place.

So, in short, try running your tutorial again, you'll find it no longer works.

I just did it again on Tribble, and it works as instructed, Vulcan. Select the single targ under npc groups. Put him in the map. Click the little arrow icon beside the Single targ in the maps tab to bring a drop down list of the individual actors of the group. The individual targ is "Actor #1." You can change his costume to a Borg or anything else.

    To sum:

You can change the costume(s) of a group by clicking on the individual actors.

You can change the animation(s) and other fearture by clicking on the group.

The Single Targ is a group that consists of only 1 actor. If you want to use a different group, but only want 1 actor, then move 4 of the others into dead space or underground.

Sorry if something about that isn't clear. It still works exactly as the tutorial shows.

Aha! Got it! Your last explanation made me get it Kirkfat. Thanks. I just wasn't understanding that you'd need to use both the 'Group' Icon settings and the 'Actor' settings. For some reason I was remembering you only accessing one in your video.
Anyways, now they are working, at least in Preview. Unfortunately, every time I publish it and try to go play it on Tribble with a regular character, they just stand there and do nothing, even though ten minutes ago, in Preview, they were typing, cleaning, scanning, whatever.

I'm gussing this is a bug that they just haven't worked out yet. Or do other people not have this problem?

Yes, this is a bug. Hopefully it will be fixed soon. At least it isn't as bad as it was during closed beta when our npcs were all white hairy andorians.
