Cryptic has said that STO is "soft canon." So, does that also mean our UGC missions are "soft canon"? They will occur in the main universe of STO. They will be part of the game.
Most likely not considering that two people can create the same type of mission with different details so you could not have them all being considered that. I would assume just the main story events are considered that, not user generated missions though maybe some really good featured missions might be :-)
however it has ben said that if a mission stands out to both the community and cryptic, there is a chance it could be integrated into the canon
If that's true then it'll only be game canon. I expect Foundry missions to fall under fan-fiction too. People can create missions that might directly contradict each other or established canon so it wouldn't make sense to have them all considered any form of canon.
I forget who exactly said it, but I recall one of the devs saying that the better missions would be offered by starfleet personnel (the "Hail Starfleet" dudes) to the greater community. In that case, missions would become soft canon
i would say no but where hard canon is basically one path, soft canon can be multiple paths each contradicting the last, so maybe it will.
the thing about soft canon is your free to believe what you want. if a mission sounds right and you like it then why not regard it as soft canon. its your choice.
in honesty though, does it matter what its called?
If any missions get integrated into the game directly (which will be very rare) they will become Canon for STO, but in general, missions created through The Foundry (Beta) for Star Trek Online, will not be considered canon nor soft canon by CBS.

You did not have to respond to this thread. Seriously, this was even debated? Was somebody from CBS actually consulted. I feel so sorry that they have to deal with us.

This has to be a first (at least to me). Someone starts a thread, asking a question about the game, and then tells a Cryptic employee that they didn't need to respond... Normally, thread starters are looking for Cryptic input on their questions...

I know, lol, I just thought the official response was funny.

Though I get your point, I think Kirk's was that since this particular question was SO common sense its surprising it was chosen for a response rather than another.

I hope you take the best KDF Foundry missions and add them to the official game.

This is how I think of it.
