Klingon Ships -- Suggest You Look At The Patch Notes....

I have followed the posts on Tribble regarding the new ships...and I would suggest that anyone who has done the same take a gander at the patch notes for tomorrow.

I spotted one difference right off of the bat -- the Orion Patrol Cruiser. It looks like the Devs listened to the feedback from the Tribble testers -- the fighters are now an "on click" ability, not something that spawns at 25%. The fighters also look like they got a bit of a boost as far as offensive capability goes....

It is enough to intrigue me. I was not planning on getting one for my Klingon Engineer...now I am seriously reconsidering. It might just be a very nice ship.

Edit: Looks like the upped the crew also. These changes might just make this ship viable...
Another Edit...the fighter wing ships also capture crew and disable systems...

I'm disappointed we did not get to test these revisions before they launched the ships.

for the lazy a link to the post and for the lazyer a cut and paste of the bit we care about

    New Klingon Ships!
•The new Klingon ships will be available in game and in the C-store:
•Varanus Fleet Support Vessel◦Gorn-designed Science Vessel with integrated subsystem targeting.
◦3 fore, 3 aft weapon slots.
◦Lt. Tactical, Ens. Engineering, Lt. Engineering, Lt. Cmd. Science, and Cmd. Science officer seats.
◦2 Tactical, 2 Engineering, and 4 Science console slots.
    ◦Crew: 750
◦Special ability: This ship can launch up to 5 Repair Platforms that will deploy drones to assist itself or allied ships.■Each repair platform can only spawn 2 repair drones. So a full complement of repair platforms can provide healing drones for every member of the team.
■If your drones get destroyed you can fly back to the platform and get more.

    •Orion-designed Cruiser.◦4 fore, 4 aft weapon slots.
◦Lt. Tactical, Lt. Cmd. Engineering, Cmd. Engineering, Ens. Science, and Lt. Science officer seats.
◦2 Tactical, 4 Engineering, and 2 Science console slots.
    ◦Crew: 1200 (from 800)
◦Special ability: The player is able to deploy a wing of Orion Interceptor Fighters through a click ability. These fighters drop mines, disable subsystems, and capture crew from enemy ships.■Known Issue: The Icon for this special ability is currently a plain white icon. It will be fixed soon.

    •B’rel Bird-of-Prey Retrofit◦Klingon Fighter.
◦4 fore, 2 aft weapon slots.
◦2 Lt. Universal, 1 Lt. Cmd. Universal, 1 Cmd. Universal officer seats.
◦3 Tactical, 3 Engineering, 2 Science console slots.
    ◦Crew: 30
◦Special ability: Enhanced Battle Cloak. This ship can use mines and torpedoes while remaining cloaked, as well as most Bridge Officer and Captain abilities

BTW there is some new skill info on the new patch note but you are going to have to use the link im being lazy now..

Until I saw the patch notes, I thought my Lethean captain with a mostly non-Klingon crew was going to be stuck with BoP skills until something better came along for one of the secondary races. I had been hoping for an Orion ship that would be worth a token and respec, so if the fighters are not hull HP locked, then I'll be going Orion for sure.

We don't get to test the revisions before they launch. I really goto stop giving Cryptic the benefit of the doubt.

    Indeed. Very nice. :)

Hybrid Cruiser/Carrier. That's how I always imagined this ship (-> like the NPC Orions in the game). <3 I'll stick to the Birds-of-Prey, but I can't wait to see the others in action. And who knows, maybe one day I'll level an Orion or a Gorn, too.

So you'd rather have no revisions.

Some people can really badmouth everything. :P I for one am happy they listened to us, and that they are finally available.

Have they already been released to Holodeck?

This is a matter of getting things as close to right from the start. I appreciate that they made changes, but the first versions of these ships had been tested internally and we can see how well that went over. These ships needed more time on tribble, as badly as many of us wanted to see them asap.

And this is not just about making them better, because there is still some potential that the B'rel is a little on the overpowered side with some of its cloaked abilities, this needed further testing too.

They are on the ship vendor currently. I do not see them in the C-store yet.

Well I've tested the new builds on tribbel and I'm Flying the gorn on my Sci capt and The Sic ship is a pretty good healer. I think it still needs a turn rate boost and the repair drones need a boost to the ammount they repair but other than that she seems to be a good ship.

The Orion ship Is ok it still has issues with weapon hardpoints (beam's com out randomly from the hull) and I think the Interceptors need a boost to shield/hull but other than that she's a solid ship.

BoP one word SQUISHY. Yes it can fire torp/drop mines from cloak and use a wide array of skills while in cloak but a broadside from a cruiser can kill them. (no shields when decloaking to fire/ use BO Skills). So it comes with a price. I'm sure some will find uses for this ship but I won't be one of them.

I just tested on the B'rel again, now a number of self-heals reveal you. Given the fact that no torps or mines can do enough damage to shields to really make the enhanced cloak worth while, this ship has just now become the biggest of the niche ships ever introduced to STO.

Ok, I've been messing with them on Tribble for a few days (and have just completed a test of them in their release config so I know what to use my freebie on), and here are my experiences:

BoP = Obviously we LOVE to remember General Chang attacking the Enterprise while cloaked. However this BoP, definitely in PvE and probably in PvP, the skill is novel at best. First, you are revealed for 3 seconds when firing, giving a cruiser enough time to rip through you broadside, or get a lucky HYT3 shot on you. Now there are a few skills that also reveal you when you use them. The fact that every ship, when you first encounter them (ie entering a zone) has it's shields up, the skill is fairly useless. You MIGHT be good in one of these as a support vessel for a group in PvE or PvP, but on your own, not so much.

Fleet Support = I like the style of the Fleet Support Vessel, it's a a KDF Science ship (in that it can target subsystems, and has 1 CM and 1 LC sci slot), so all of you Fed Sci fans will like it. It's unique ability, you can launch a number of Repair Platforms, that spawn 2 Hull Repair Drones. In my test, the enemy target ALWAYS destroyed the platform, however the drones usually lasted a while (sometimes getting destroyed by a Heavy Plasma, or a cannon spray. I Think the hull repair drones could use a little nudge in their heal ability.

Patrol Cruiser = By far my favorite of the bunch (even if it is the ugliest). She's got plenty of firepower (I tihnk the default 4 torpedoes is a bit much though) and it is an Engineer Captain's dream (1 LC and 1 CM eng). It's quite a slow mover, but hull and crew make up for it. THe best part of this ship is the "Interceptors" They really DO do it all. During my test earlier, they launched mines, fired wha tlooked like cannons, lowered the ships shields (they also say they take crew from the other ship, hard for me to tell), the best part of it, they seemed to do a good deal of damage to the shields of the enemy ship, they also lasted for the entire battle, it seems the enemy craft stayed focused on me. The major drawback (other than sluggishness) is that the Interceptors are on a 3 minute timer.

I just think it's not very constructive to have such a negative attitude. Your avatar alone speaks volumes.

I don't like what they did to the B'rel either, but ... come on. This forum has far too many people acting like they are deliberately targeted by a company headed by evil supervillains.

I think that is simply people reading too much into things. I've not seen anyone suggest this was a conspiracy, instead it was stupidity likely driven to meet a deadline they had pushed back so many times already. Still stupidity.

Let me clarify, the stupidity was not to test them again. It is very possible the things done to the B'rel are unintentional, but a quick test would have revealed this, but they hit live with the changes before those same changes hit tribble.

I know, I know. And I agree to an extent. It's just that sometimes it feels like regardless of what the company does, it'll get criticized. Especially by the Klingon faction.

Of course there is a reason for why some people feel that way in the first place, and a lot of things went wrong, but I do believe it's getting better, and I'd wish for the community to reflect this. Lest we risk alienation. There will always be a drive for Cryptic to deliver content for the Klingon faction solely due to monetary reasons and because the KDF is a part of the game - but it goes without saying that the developers and designers will put more love into it if they feel that their efforts are appreciated.

What I'm trying to say is ... cut them some slack.

That Avatar was earned by Cryptic, that alone does speak volumes.

It would have been easier to cut them some slack had there been a single post from a dev in the feedback thread. Take for instances Gozers new Pi Canis stuff. We're running into bugs, but he's been more than receptive to these things or even criticism regarding the potential problems associated with the "optional" goals. Now I don't think everyone expects every dev to be as talkative as Gozer, but at least one post in the original feedback thread created by a dev would have gone a long way.

Does this mean that we should string Cryptic up and never trust them again? No, but they continue to dig holes with the KDF community, intentional or not.
