We all know these words, what it means, the chill that went down our spines the first time we heard it on TNG. But mere text on a screen cannot convey the sense of "a billion voices speaking as one". So in this thread, I ask the devs: is it possible for you to add audio files that would be able to be used in a variety of missions, such as the title?

text ..hmmm maybe not.
It is possible that certain sound bytes from the game might be available to us...like that one,
to be triggered when a borg cube shows up.

just a guess...but is possible
exactly. I can't remember, is the standard Borg greeting already in the game?
i believe the reason for the new Borg is because that was the original intention of the writers but due to budget we got the "soft" Borg.
can anyone confirm/deny that the standard Borg greeting is in the game?
Well I know there is a borg greeting in the game already. Think back when you did the tutorial you heard the greeting the moment you began to engage the Borg cube, don't beleive me go back and do the tutorial.
Ive never seen the typical Borg greeting other than in the tutorial or am i mistaken? Just a side note, i would welcome the Borg being a playable race.

ahhh yes...I thought it was in there SOMEWHERE. thanks for the tip

The Borg aren't individuals. How would playable Borg make sense? It's perfect that the Borg stay mindless NPCs.
Yes their traditional greeting is in the tutorial. Is it just me or does the sound byte in the game sound unimpressive compared to what we have heard in the movies and tv shows?

It's one of those audio clips, like the Guardian of Forever's bits, where it sounds close'ish but just not quite right.
Sort of the auditory equivalent of Uncanny Valley. Close enough that it reminds you of what it is supposed to sound like but far enough away that it is a bit jarring and offputting.
I hate to say it, but the "scariness" of the Borg is gone. You can already solo a cube in game, so hearing that recording would be more of a joke to laugh at than something to be afraid of.

I think 3 cubes in front of me or just one tactical cube would do the trick.
Also, in "Infected" The Borg geniunely suprised and creeped me out when I heard her say "I bring order, to chaos. The one who is many, the beginning and the end. I am Borg"
If I (and I will) use the Borg queen can I use her soundfile?

I hear ya, they need borg like in Next Generation
A massive cube zips up next to you and it makes your galaxy class look like a shuttle....pod.
Something so big it takes up the whole screen if your facing it.
Then pause for effect....weapons do nothing <at first>
How about a voice editor.... Input our voice and change it? So say "we are the Borg, resistance is futile. We will add your tech...etc etc." and make it sound scarier or something. Just a thought. Also with the UGC I think if you are gonna make a borg based mission, make the enemy more smarter than the usual borg. Just saying.

Thoroughly.
Whoever's decision it was to make the Cube a soloable NPC completely killed the Borg as anything but same old trashmobs.
Spawns of them being less potent and durable on the ground than circle-healing Romulans or Mirror Starfleet, or for that matter a single Reman Guard Captain, didn't help either.

That wouldn't be the case if it wasn't an NPC that was using tactics, though it would seem most people are afraid of there being a playable Borg faction. Comparing going up against an NPC Borg is ridiculous to even claim what you do.
How strong do you want the cubes to be? As strong as lets say for example you were a Commander rank and the Cube would be at least as strong as a rank above (Captain)? And I do think they should of raised the volume on the Borg voices...cause after I fought them once it was like....the Borg....huh....*phaser phaser quantum, explosion...* ....Assimilate that...
There are a few points to consider with the danger the Borg represent.
When they first showed up they were the unstoppable force. They could be damaged but they adapted to the point of invulnerability, repaired at impossibly high rates, and their ships were simply huge. And of course... the lack of individualism was a scary prospect.
The fear they instilled went downhill from there. In Best of Both Worlds they were TRIBBLE and told to go to sleep. While a clever victory, it revealed that that the Borg are basically Goliath and it was all a matter of hitting them in the right spot.
Once the Federation knew it would take immense resources to go toe-to-toe, captains started to focus on exploiting their weaknesses. This lead to many more victories.
Then Borg started to become liberated, negating the fear that being assimilated had.
To the bigger picture...
We've seen Borg improve technologically only slightly since their introduction. Considering they evolve only through assimilation, it stands to reason their evolution would grow stagnant as they ran out of new, advanced technologies to take from others. Their advancement has effectively grown stagnant.
Meanwhile Starfleet has been improving in leaps and bounds, in part due to the confrontation with the Borg. So the huge technological gap between Starfleet and the Borg has significantly lessened.
So I think a Miranda class should be able to blow up cubes? Heck no... but Starfleet would do a lot better against the Borg now than they did during Best of Both Worlds. The fear the Borg once instilled is long gone, and it makes sense that it is.
I remember somebody on the Cryptic Staff saying that they are reserving the "We are the Borg" audio for cinematic moments. Which might mean they are going to put those in when they are revamping some of the existing missions.
I also have to agree, the size of the Cubes are a little bit on the small side, but Cryptic also has to note different computers, they want everyone to be able to play STO with little to no lag.
I do agree with the idea of Borg ships being a little bit too....weak. There should be some sort of super Borg vessel that appears, like the Super Tactical Cube from Armada(?). Now that would be cool!!
They could create one or two new ship types for the Borg. Spheres would then become the new Borg Battleship, Probes stay the Borg frigate, two ship classes in between fulfill a Cruiser and a Science role, and the Cube becomes the "Dreadnought" of the Borg. They might still be killable on Normal when you're alone , but with the challenge of an Advanced or Elite difficulty Cube.
They could simply create a "mini-cube" for the Cruiser (with some visual alterations to a normal cube aside from the lower size) and a pyramid design for the science variant.
Probe: Frigate, encountered in 3 typically. I think powers are Emergency Power to Engines and Borg Boarding Party?
Pyramid: Borg Escort. Powers: High Yield Torpedo, Beam Overload, Evasive Maneuvers
Mini-Cube: Borg Science Vessel. Powers: Shield Neutralizer, Tractor Beam, Science Team. Hull and Shields like current Borg Sphere.
Sphere: Borg Battleship. Powers: Tractor Beam, Emergency Power to Engines, Borg Boarding Party. Hull and Shields like current Borg Cube.
Cube: Borg Dreadnought. Powers: Tractor Beam, Shield Neutralizer, High Yield Torpedo, Borg Boarding Party. Hull and Shields like current Borg Cube on Advanced (Advanced like Elite, and Elite even worse )
Tactical Cube: Borg Super-Dreadnought. Powers: Tractor Beam, Shield Neutralizer, High Yield Torpedo, Beam Overload, Borg Boarding Party. Hull and Shields like current Borg Cube at Elite (advanced even worse and Elite even worser )
Though I am not really a big fan of the shield neutralizer. Maybe they should change tha tpower to make the neutralizing process a little slower or increase the Borg cooldown? Instead the Borg should have an "adaptive" shield power. They get +25 % shield resistance against the energy type they took most damage from the last 10 seconds. That makes them tougher to solo, and rewards teams with different weapon choices.
if you want a REALLY big cube, they MIGHT have a scaling function
basically, you grab a borg cube...put it there
then under 'edit' tab (if they have it) go to scale...should say 1.0.....change it to 4.0
ta-da one big honking cube
borg generic base...build it out of cubes and spheres...make them inert
slap some defensive guns on it
There are limits to the game engine and the tool
but there is no limit on your imagination
also, very often in tools like this, if you make the cube...or anything else inert...or
non-functional, you might be allowed to overlap models, so you could make...say a long
cube by meshing 2 cube 'keep in mind, would just be for show, then at one end bury
a borg sphere with just a bit showing at the top

Also can we use the older Borg models used in the tutorial? Personally I am more a fan of the original look than the new "zombie" Borg.

agreed, but this isn't a thread about playable Borg. lets stay on track
It is in the tutorial, the very last thing you fight is a small weaken borg cube and on arrival
it gives its usual 'friendly' greeting

really loud We are the borg........
As I understand it, part of the agreement with CBS on this is that mission writers can only use stuff already in the system.
our voices are not part of that...sorry
BLAST!
Well there goes that idea....
