One of the things I would like to do more of in ground combat is a bit more melee for then you get ganked by a swarm of mobs. Nowas a tac you can go for a judo kit and do a bit of that, which is fine, but for everyone else its the Bat-leth.
Then I came across an odd piece of loot, a pistol with only 1 shoot option. The otehr option ratehr than an exploit/expose attack w to punch them in the face.
Now... how about blade and pistol/ LMB shoot the pistol, RMB shank em.
I really dunno. I'd like to see a few more close combat weapons (combat knife for Feds so that they don't have to steal our Bat'leths, and a d'k'tagh for KDF), but I really do not see some sort of pirate-like swashbuckling style with gun and blade fitting to Trek.
Whilst I mostly agree with this fact there is a cavieat. I just cannot see a Klingon warrior going into battle choosing to be armed only with a d'k'tagh if he had a pistol in his belt.
I do agreeI wouldn't want to see the place swarming with 'sword & pistol' we do already have a large number of dual-wield characters which is no better. This dos not justify my comment, I accept.
What I would hope is this would appeal only to certain people under certain curcs - such as Me when fihting melee heavy enemies. I really don't like the 'swap to aux weapon' concept we do so freely in STO and this, to me. seems a betetr option. Most of the time I would just be shooting the pistol anyway.

Definitively - but we already have two weapon slots, and whilst I have seen lots of Klingons with either a pistol or a dagger in hand, and the other weapon sheathed, I have never seen one who has drawn both at the same time.
Obviously this is largely a matter of taste/opinion, so all we can do is describe our individual perspectives:
The matter is complicated by STO ground combat not working like it did in the shows. A Klingon with a disruptor pistol should be able to disintegrate his target at once, so why should he hold a dagger when he doesn't expect to get into close combat? And likewise, if he seeks close combat, why would he keep a gun in the other hand? To cheat when he's about to loose? Not very Klingon as well.
It's the game that puts us into situations where ranged combat often turns into close combat in just a heartbeat, but I'm not sure if our equipment should reflect this "out-of-character" game mechanic.
Yeah I am largely with you on this one. I guess my motivation was largely to find something clsoe to the Trek concept that fitted the problem in ground combat as you describe. Range become melee in a heartbeat and you really should be pulling a Batleth out of your pocket interchangeably.

If not a bat'leth, perhaps the beloved KDF pocketknife...lol
OOOOOOoooooooooooooooo I had a thought. No idea how hard it would be to impelement though. Perhaps for some weapons you leave buttons one and 2 as they are. You change button 3. This would work for one handed pistols quite well maybe? You dont actually wander around 'Pirate Pete' style, but your button 3 instead of beng the very camp 'slap in the face' is replaced with a shiv move.
Would this not better relflect the occasional use of the KDF issue pocket knife?
I still think the most Klingon expression is a fist in the face. Although a headbutt would be fun, too. Or a kick. I could imagine a lot of cool moves without the need to quickdraw some small dagger .. then put it away again .. and draw it once more when the button is pressed a second time.
Also, KDF knives are way too large to be carried in pockets. What are we, Romulans?
