A question: pre-play through.

Back when I last dabbled with an "MMO" It was the Original Neverwinter nights. That contained something that seemed very like the Foundry system. One thing that you could do was play through your game off the bat, before releasing it. This allowed you to spot any errors and fix them, and generally allowed an improvement of the quality. As the point of view from the Players perspective is different to the POV of the editor. It also gave you a feel of the flow of the mission and where you needed to tighten up or not.

But the issue I see is that the NWN editor and game was local to your computer, with STO its on their server.
So will you have the ability to take the game out in a local mode and play though your mission? Or is it down the blind luck?

a writers play test has always improved the missions. This has been the case with several games with similar mission editors I've used. Especially when your trying something new. For example Take the episode name. Could we put the place holder text for the Characters name insert and put it in the episode title? Would that work or would you get a code stream.

    At any time during the creation of your Project you can exit the edit to play your current in progress mission. You can start at specific points in the story, or just go from the beginning. You can pop back and forth between the editor and game this way.

    This is also how our internal development tools work as well. The game editing engine is a layer on top of the game and in dev mode we can pop in and out of the full game editor at will to alter it as we're playing. (although they don't give devs enough access on Holodeck to do this - only on our internal testing shards).

    The Foundry gives players a very limited subset of these tools so that even though the content is on the server, you are playtesting your mission locally and only you can see it. Once you do make changes though, it is not until you publish your Project that everyone else can see it.

    Once a mission has been published, tested and goes live and then something like a spelling error or any other bug that was missed in testing is found. can it still be edited to fix these errors?

    That's a good question. I'd think that we'd be able to edit them but that it would clear the approval history and would have to go back through the process.

    To add to this question can we get bug reports or a copy of them in our game mail or personal mail if someone plays the mission and reports something? If it's a non-important part of my mission and it causes a problem I could remove it if I know about it...

    You can continue to edit your mission after it has been published, and publish again later. While the old version won't be forcibly dropped from players already in progress, any new players taking the mission will get your new version.

    I don't know if we have a definite policy in place yet to determine what happens to existing ratings, and the mission might have to be vetted again to make sure no inappropriate content has been added.

    Well, I'm sure the Approval Process can run a DIFF command (or somesuch) that will highlight the changes so the reviewer doesn't have to look over the whold thing...
