Sorry I didn't want to make a new thread but thought this needed one of it's own? devs can always delete this if not.
Anyways I wondered if anyone had considered, and was interested in "teaming up" to create content.
Like a small developement team, now I know it will have limitations as it has to be done on one account(atm). Even so I figured it would be great if people have specific interests, somone might like the tools but not much like writing missions that kind of thing, Well in those instances why dont we team up to make our own little "dev" teams. for E.G. One guy who is really good making maps could work with another "conceptual" guy to create those maps , objects , placement etc, and another couple of guys could work together on writing content for said missions( i like the idea of having two writers or more to bounce ideas and make the content more accessible to more people).
I know a lot of people will want to do it all alone, thats fine. But the more I think about this the more I think I would love to work with 1 or more other people to create the best stories(that we are capable of) and translate them to missions that I hope would be as caried as the people contributing to them.
I have joined starbase: ugc and was plannig to bring it up on there. But this is just an early shout out to say that I would love to work with someone(s) on this and feel free to pm me if you think it's something you'd want to do. Also even if you dont want to work with me specifically I am curious as to if there are any other people considering this as an idea for building content.
But I am not suggesting this for speed, but for quality.
I'd be in favor of this. I'm more of a writing/scripting kind of person so being able to have somebody handle perhaps the NPC costume/modeling or even the terrain layout would always be nice.
But of course, then you have to have people who are committed to it and have the time or you end up getting frustrated that so and so did not finish their part etc.
thats why I am suggesting small groups rather than something epic. I think it would be easy for a few people to get along have some fun and do thier respective "jobs" with minimum hassle. As i would hope each person would want to do a good mission as much as the next..
I'm sure the Devs have stated that authors will eventually be able to work together on projects, so what you have suggested is a part of the intended plan that Cryptic have for us, although as you suggest, it is completely up to the authors to choose whether they wish to work together or separately, but at present it is best to wait and see what the first patch of "The Foundry (beta)" tools allow authors to accomplish.
When the tools are tweaked and updated to allow authors to work together on a project, then you can simply ask your friends or fellow "committed" forum members if they are interested.
You could simply post a new thread when the time is right, describing a project in brief and asking if any other authors are interested in working with you, rather than attempting to form "teams" before you know how the system will work.
Although, the idea has potential and I would approve, just not yet, as I believe it is to soon, but there is absolutely no harm in talking to players who are interested in your idea and starting to discuss potential team efforts.
One of the ways that I hope to facilitate corroboration is with the ugc blog. You can create a mission overview and categorize it under "collaboration." Then, others can comment on the mission, helping to add to it, etc. You can also use the pm system to share ideas.
There are two ways to team up. The first is for multiple folks to work on the same mission. Dan's said the tools will support this (perhaps not right out of the gate).
The second way is for folks to "reuse" content and build on each others work to create an even deeper experience as described in The UGC Starbase (not yet known if the tools will ever be able to support that).
thanks for the feedback. as you guys pointed out it IS early for a post like thiis, though please understand my intention was not to try and forge something in iron now. but just to see if anyone felt the same as me. If no one else wanted to team up then i'd have known right off the bat not to bother maybe. So just seeing there would potentially be future interest was my goal at this point.
I love what you are trying to to with starbase ugc, as you said the blog post's are a clear way to share ideas. I HOPE I can contribute in a posative way. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts
Most people are going to want to experiment, doing their own thing at the beginning I imagine, but yeah, I'll bet there will be plenty of people interested in teaming to work together on creating new content in about 2 months or so.
I can't really see the tools allowing two people to work simultaneously on a misison together... but collaborating with people and getting one to actually create it in the UGC is more than possible. I suppose the best way to do it would be to change an @-handle to something that reflects your group (like @52nd Writers Fleet or whatever) and having that person create the missions.
I think it is a fantastic idea, we over at OPG will be doing this with some of our veteran modders from past Star Trek titles for the very purpose (Anyone is more than welcome, we have forum already set up and you can find it in my sig area). While it might be a little early, i don't think it is too early to start forming such groups, while you cant work at the moment together on missions and so on, Dan has stated that it will occur at a later time, but that doesn't mean you can bounce ideas off each other in a productive place, that is how creativity works. Perhaps you can also link your missions together in that same system, making it a continued map?

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

So that's my bet, New Year!
Additionally I can see writer fleets starting up, sometime soon after it launches.
