Klingon - Between PvP Queues ?

Klingon leveling question.

I have had a lot of fun leveling my Klingon character but would like to know from the Klingon community what to expect as I play my way up through the ranks.

I played STO when it came out and then was gone for 6 months and started playing again when I returned. My first session with the game was about 2 months long then 6 months gone. Now I am back and have been playing for about 8 weeks.

OK, I have been playing Fed and have a VA upper half to great enjoyment. I then started a Klingon account and have been having a little bit of a hard time keeping myself occupied in the game. I have seen the posts about a lack of quests for the Klingon and no crafting and so on but as I am now a Commander I am wanting to know if what I have experienced so far is going to be the same for my future ranks.

I do enjoy PvP and the sole reason I started a Klingon is because I have never won a match as Fed, PvP I mean... As Klingon I have had a ton more fun in PvP but while waiting for a PvP queue to join which has been no less than 45 minutes up to an hour and a half I am getting a little disturbed as how to keep myself engaged when I cannot find any questing missions or crafting.

Yeah I know I am spoiled with the Fed side and having a lot to do but the only complaint I have about Fed is I never can win PvP.

So a long circle back, the reason I am liking Klingon is I can win PvP a lot and thats really cool but, I am missing all the other fun stuff in STO. What am I doing wrong? What am I supposed to be doing as a Klingon between PvP queues? Will what I am doing now (Kill Fed Fleet) be the same until the highest rank?

If so I will unfortunately go back to Fed and have to not play PvP.

Ok Klingons, what is this young pup not doing right between PvP Queues?

Thanks for the guidance and I am totally inexperienced with the Klingon side of things.

Your not doing anything wrong. KDF play is a grind wrapped in pvp, with very little in the way of storyline pve missions.

Klingons do have exploration missions like the Federation (with slightly different "plots" and non-functioning tricorders). They have only very few (8 unique + 5 faction neutral + the weeklies) PvE storyline missions, which is a big issue.
The Empire Defense missions are similar to the Federation Sector Defense missions, except suckier because they are not open instances - try to find someone to team up with for them so it's more interesting and maybe even train your teamwork.
You can also go to Ker'rat for some "Open" PvP without Queing.

At higher tiers, I suspect that the Queues will pop a little more often since more players on that level engage in PvP (particularly on the Federation side- most are busy wtih all the PvE content before.)
You can try to look for a PvP Fleet among the Klingons to see if this increases yoru chances for PvP.

Yeah just get yourself past the grind to the upper levels, just the instant teamwork with strangers you've never met in pvp makes it worthwhile :)

Welcome to the KDF side of the world, Eisenhorne.
    And don't be discouraged.
When you have questions, you've come to the right place.
When you can't find something just ask.
Given the current state of the KDF it's probabaly not existant,
but who knows sometimes it is.
It's just so well hidden that it takes the experienced folks to point you to it.

There is one small and obviously uninteneded benefit Klingon side, especially in PvP. To get to the top end you need to be very deternmined and probably have already levelled a fed that far.

What that means in game terms is a pack of top end Klings are likely to be much better in PvP than and olld VA fed side.

Right on! Thanks for the awesome feedback. I will look for those Exploration type missions more, that should keep me going between matches.

    Thanks

Rather then start a new post I'll add my questions here.

I started my Klingon the other day and right now he's a Lt 7, about 50 odd points from Lt 8. So I've really done next to nothing with him yet.

But it seems I only have 4 things I can do to level up.

PvP, Defend the Empire missions, Space/Ground Battle missions, and Explore the Nebula missions.

I entered a PvP queue last night, but being a Lt I have no idea how long I'd have to wait to get a game.

The Explore missions seems to be almost pointless to try since you can't scan for the objects. Unless I want to spend 20+ minutes trying to find all the objects.

The Space/Ground battles are actually worse since it seems like no one else is there. I tried one last night, with some Borg stuff in it. I did that one as a Fed and I can't see how I could possibly swing it solo. I'm guessing the ground battles are the same.

Last is the Defend the Empire missions.

Mostly what I want to do is get to Lt Cmdr so I can do the weekly stuff. But the only way I can see to do that right now, is with the Defend the Empire missions and hope that a PvP match actually happens.

Is that right? Or is there some other thing I'm missing?

I want to jump in here real quick and set the "expectation" of what I'm currently doing to Pi Canis.

At the moment I'm just looking at the 8 or so Fed Patrol missions in this sector. The patrol missions are low hanging fruit so to speak. It won't take a significant amount of time to convert those missions to Klingon PVE content. However it's still going to take a few days per mission to convert them, test them, and add a Klingon spin to them.

I've always liked playing the Fed Patrol missions as they were something I could jump on and play for a hour or so when I had some free time. For the Klingon versions I think we can add just a twist or two to make them something you will enjoy replaying multiple times as well.

The basic story for the sector is that the Federation is getting stretched a little thin fighting on multiple fronts, so the KDF is going to take advantage of that and start sending over guerrilla forces to strengthen their position in the sector. The old fed patrol missions will be converted into a series of repeatable Klingon missions. I'm trying to work in a few "extra" bits to the converted patrols that give you extra rewards for doing extremely well at the tasks that the KDF give you.

Once I have a good idea the time investment required to convert the old fed patrols, I'll have a better understanding of how long it might take to convert a full episode like City on the Edge. For now we are going to take it one small step at a time and get you guys something new to chew on with the converted patrols and see how that goes.... :)

    Goz

    i'M SO HAPPY:D

That's about it, though there are a few extremely awesome PvE story missions in every tier, too. I think you can take them at Lt10, LtC10 and Cdr10? Not sure. It's not much, but it's something to look forward to!

In addition to that, also take a look at what Roach quoted. :)

No, that's pretty much it, except for warzones and fleet actions (though I can't remember which FAs are open to you at that level). Defend the Empire missions give pretty good XP. The only drawback is that they have a 5 minute reset timer - complete one, and you'll have to wait 5 minutes to get offered another.

My usual thing was to run a Defend, then drop into T'Ong to finish a set of 3 missions. Explores aren't that bad - if you get an outdoor "destroy X things" mission, beam out and pick up a new mission.

As I recall, Tier 1 PvP was fairly active as well.

That, and they're boooooring. In Exploration I at least have a change in scenery and enemies, often enough also in tasks.

Usually, much like the fed side, if you look at the mini map theres a "path" usually an oddly shaped and different coloured than the rest of the ground, pretty much everything will be along this path.

Having said that exploration missions will get you the marks which you can get some pretty good equips with while you're leveling up for nothing. I didnt spend any EC while leveling up since anything that was in price range on the exchange wasn't as good what you'd get from the exploration marks/badges/whatever they're called..
