Character Ranks beyond RA - "Dahar Master"?

Greetings, fellow warriors, allies and subjugated species!

"Recently", Cryptic has announced the coming ranks for character progression beyond Rear Admiral. You can read up on it in this announcement. Whilst I would have preferred that advancement should stop at the rank of Captain, I applaud this decision, for when the developers already gave us lesser General ranks, then they can just as well let us go for the highest echelons.

However! There is something which confuses me, and it is my hope that this thread, together with your support, may get the attention of the powers that be, and possibly result in a change of a small, yet important detail.

According to the table presented to us, the rank corresponding to a Federation Fleet Admiral will be a "Dahar Master" - actually a social title earned by displaying great skill and exemplary behavior on the path of the warrior. Whilst it is true that a Dahar Master commands great respect amongst all his (or, much less frequently, her) peers, it is not a rank within the hierarchy of the Klingon Defense Force and grants no official privilege or authority. Was it not that Dahar Master Kor has served as a subordinate of General Martok? How, then, can it be that this rank is supposed to be superior to a full KDF General?

It is my opinion, fellow warriors, that the name for this rank has been chosen unwisely and should be replaced by a more proper term that preserves the dignity and exclusiveness of the rare title of Dahar Master. Having it included in the formal hierarchy of the military is in no way better as if it would include a title like Bat'leth-Champion. Whilst certainly interconnected by ways of martial tradition, social and military titles should never be confused. So stand with me in this plea for preserving the True Klingon culture!

However, as any good warrior should, I am not only here to accuse, but also to offer viable alternatives. So, after just a few minutes of thinking, these are the options that came to my mind:

#1 High General: This one I first stumbled upon in the Star Wars setting - but hold on, don't let the petty "rivalries" between ST and SW affect your judgement. Its somewhat "archaic" sounding is the very reason I list this as my prime choice. It sounds very Klingon ("High Council") and goes well with its Federation equivalent (Admiral -> Fleet Admiral / General -> High General).

#2 Captain General: This term is of European origin and has been used to describe various levels of authority, ranging from a full General up to a Commander-in-Chief or even a governor. As it can also be confused with a normal General (or even a Captain if one interprets the term incorrectly), I hesitated a little before deciding to put it here anyways.

#3 Marshal: Also of European real-world origin, the rank of Marshal has evolved in meaning from a feudal lord's trusted stablekeeper to the leader of armies, outranking General officers. To me, this term somehow doesn't sound very Klingon (although I could imagine a similar evolution on Qo'noS), but I at least wanted to have it listed.

Now, it is up to you. Feel free to speak your mind - both regarding the "Dahar Master" rank question as well as the alternatives I have suggested. Of course you are also welcome to share your own ideas regarding potential rank names.

*rolls a barrel of blood wine into the thread*

Qapla'!

I say either do it right or dont do it all. If its wrong, then correct it...its that simple.

Dahar Master sounds like it should be a special title one can add to their character, likly based on some achievement(content, objectives, mission strings, etc)...but nothing else.

I tend to agree on Dahar Master, while I'd love to see this as something we gain from a House system or something similar I do not think it fits as a Rank.

I would go with Fleet Marshal, they are using the British Army ranks for system for all of the General ranks. The highest level for the British Army is Field Marshal, I say just change it to Fleet Marshal and you have yourself a rank.

Just to bring the memory alpha info into this

    http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Dahar_master
A Dahar Master (da-HAR) was a Klingon warrior who had reached a legendary status among his peers and subordinates.
Kor, Koloth, and Kang were all Dahar Masters. (DS9: "Blood Oath")

Nothing about that indicates a military rank, in fact Kor had trouble getting a commission as an officer in "Once More Unto the Breach" despite being a well known and highly praised Dahar Master. (to elaborate on what the OP stated).

Agreed on the Dahar Master being earnable as a title! Perhaps as some meta-endgame reward after having completed a set of selected accolades? It should include both having completed the PvE story arc as well as notable PvP achievements.

I have updated my suggestions in the discussion thread and posted a small list of details that I'd like to see changed in terms of ranks, including two more nitpicks on the Klingon side. Take a look and add your comments or ideas, if you feel like it!

Today is a good day to post! :P
