Hi all I thought of something recently I would like to see the klingon faction get:P Its different very klingon and should be fun. So heres the story cryptic are bringing out animals for planets in Season 3 or the future right?? Klingons also want somtething like federation diplomatic missions yes?? Lets be honest klingons are about as diplomatic as a ferengi surrounded by gold latinum!!!
But....
Why dont klingons get hunting levels for these new animals coming out??As in a klingon hunts creatures kills them and can use stuff from there prey to craft new sword weapons or clothes?? They can also get hunting levels such as novice hunter and the better the hunter and the more kills you get the more hunter points you gain and the higher grade of hunter you can be?? Let this activate transwarp conduits to places for klings like diplomatic grades do for the federation. And say once you reach the max hunter level you get a very rare skill or item or something good:D
Id appreciate any expansion to this you guys would have.
Here's a suggestion for that "something good", although it may be involved:
A Targ Bridge Officer.
Sounds nuts, huh?
They eventually added animals as personnel in the trading card game. The general design approach was to give them basic stats and a symbolic ability.
Now... Rather than tie up a console slot with an animal in space ("Set a course for the Gamma Orionis Sector, Mr. Fuzzpants"), maybe Klingon ships could have an animal slot added to them. (I could see this also being applied to some Federation Science Vessels and maybe some exceptions like the Galaxy class ships down the road, with "Civilian" and "Animal" slots being added and maybe even special BO slots for Escorts like a "Marine" or "Pirate" slot,)
These special BO classes would be ground-heavy, with a light symbolic ability in space corresponding to their special slot aboard a space vessel.
So a Targ or other tamed Animal-class would largely be a great addition to your ground away teams as a replacement for a tactical away team officer but might have some feature like a "Morale Boost" in space.
Down the line, you could introduce other prestige BO classes like Orion Pirates or Starfleet Marines or Ferengi Negotiators. Because they're designed as a BO, you could design a BO class much easier than a player class. (You'd just have to exempt them from any first officer or placement system aboard your ship.)
From these NPC-only classes, Cryptic might EVENTUALLY start adding a unique fourth class to every faction. (KDF Pirates, Federation Marines or Section 31 Specialists, Cardassian Interrogators.) But not every NPC class (like Animals) would have to make that leap.
I don't know. It may sound absurdly intensive. But I think BOs outside the Tactical/Science/Engineering paradigm (who DO take up away team slots while manning special roles in space) would make each faction (and ship*) feel more unique.
* -- On the subject of ships, people right now have made much over comparing the Excelsior to the Sovereign. But you could have more distinction between those types of ship if they utilize different prestige class bridge crew. An Excelsior might have a Yeoman or Crewman whose special space ability is to pour you a cup of tea (calming effect?) whereas a Sovereign might utilize an Elite Forces BO (with a variant on Boarding Party as their ability). Meanwhile, an NX class ship might be incredibly weak but have room for a Combat Animal onboard, something Federation ships normally don't get. And a B'Rel Refit might have room for whales and cetacean BOs "in a transparent aluminum holding tank", something you'd ordinarily only see on Galaxy class ships and Federation Science ships.
I like Leviathan99's idea of giving KDF ships Crew Mascots (for lack of a better name).
They could give a Morale Boosts acts in a way that's analogous to the Fed's tribbles ... except being crew wide they'd be more suited to space than ground usage.
Some might help boost hull repairs, crew recovery rates, or ship efficiency (to give some examples).
I don't know, a Targ as pseudo-bridge officer doesn't convince me.
What I would like to see is some knid of "Targ Fabrication Kit", maybe for Science or Tacticals. Something replicating the Klingon Targ Handler NPC.
Hunting in general I could see as the equivalent to the Exploration Missions that are now counted for Diplomacy XP on the Fed side. But the "primary missions" (The First Contact type missions) should be something else, I think.
In a system for "House Standing", such hunt missions would make sense. By hunting a vicious or cunning predator, the Klingons reputation grows. Gifting the results of such a hunt to a particular house might increase your standing with that house.
Well basically Klingons have diplomats and they are doing the same workd as any other diplomats of any other species. They are maybe not using the same languagahe and are maybe not as patient as some other species, but they have diplomats,.. so I don't see the point why klingons shouledn't habe diplomatic missions?!

I like the sound of this, but why replace a BO with another pet? They are all "pets" after all. Our Tactical Captains can call down a Security Team (uncontrollable pets) and our Science Captains can call in a Photonic Fleet in space (again uncontrollable pets).
Why not just add a controllable pet slot for Away Teams and "Ship Mascot"? Is there some real concern that it would somehow be so overwhelmingly powerful as to be balance breaking?

So having a Targ using an away team slot reinforces that idea without actually making them less powerful.
Also, it allows for Targ customization. :-)
