You can get them when you go to the Borg Space. You know there are this big fleet in the sector and one of them is a equipment dealer. You need to do daily missions to get the marks.
Ships can have different resistances to different damage types. There also seems to be some other subtle side-effects to the different types:
Space energy types:
Phaser: Chance to disable a random subsystem
Disruptor: Chance to debuff damage resistance
Plasma: Chance to proc a fire based DoT
Tetryon: Chance to proc Shield damage
Polaron: Chance to drain power from all subsystems
Anti-Proton: Bonus Crit damage
Also Ground based damage types:
Phaser: Chance to stun
Disruptor: Chance to debuff damage resistances
Plasma: Chance to proc fire based DoT
Tetryon: Chance to proc Shield damage
Polaron: Chance to proc weapon disable
Anti-Proton: Bonus Crit damage
Projectile:
Photon: Less damage but faster fire rate. Regular boff effect.
Quantum: More damage but slow fire rate. Regular boff effect.
Plasma: medium damage with a chance to apply a DoT that ignores shields (decent against both unshielded and shielded targets). Plasma's version of High Yield fires a Plasma Ball that can be targetted and shot down.
Transphasic - low damage, but more of it penetrates shields (very good against shielded targets, mediocre against unshielded targets). Comes with standard Boff powers.
Chroniton - can slow down enemies. (nice for making enemies' weakened shields harder to protect, or as a rear launcher to use when running away). Comes with standard Boff powers.
Tricobalt - very high damage, and a short disable effect (stops target from using any powers for a moment). has a very long cooldown and doesn't get modified by Boff powers.
Anti-protons are good (I suppose) from a pure dmg standpoint, with their greater than normal +crit damage. They tend to be about the same in +crit chance as other gear their level, but the main consideration is the skill point investment. Compared to say, buffing phaser skill, buffing your anti-proton skill is a serious point investment, meaning you've got less to throw in other stuff, like weapon performance, or ship-class skill, etc.
weapon skills give an increase based on points spent
anti proton weapons dont have a 2.5% chance to do some rare effect, they just do more damage instead
the weapons come in purple, meaning they have x3 effects built in, compared to x2 on blue x1 on green or none on white
they come with higher +crit sev, so for tacticle who can buff to nearly 100% crit chance, these are the weapons to crit with with things like beam overload or cannon spam
if you dont like AP weapons you can get other purple weapons now, they added them to the vendor, you can use anything you like and i wont insult your choice.
thats not a shield bypass, ive done it many times, crit overload 3 with ap dual banks and full decloak/attack buffs and you can crit 50-60k, if hes running rsp and no resists, it burns the shield, scorches the hull, and then the shield heals, still get anything > then the shield facing through to hull with rsp running, its the bleedthrough from hell when i crit
I like the anti protons for my cruiser and disruptors for my escort but all of the beams are good and the differences are not great enough to make anyone of them so much worse as to make you weaker then your foe's.
A nice thing about some of the less used damage types is people are less likely to have shielding against them.
Comments
That's polaron, not anti-proton, which has an increased chance of a critical hit, not a power drain.
the only mk11 gear which can be said is "worth" it to 90% of the veterans on STO.
Consoles - especially that Field generator with +35% shield capacity.
Bean Arrays - [CritH]x2 <--- WOOT but [dmg] <--- Booo dmg is the most usless modifier... but its mx 11.
With my testing only the beam arrays will give u a higher dps then the purple mk X gear u get though Honor points.
Because the MK X gear though honor points give a [critH] [critD]x2 on DHC, DC, and Torps.
