I currently have 2 Klingon faction characters (both now LTC 1 and LTC 9)
Since levelling up from LT6 there seems to be lack of helpful loot to help you upgrade from you standard issue klingon items you get with your first ship
I play the game on the Normal, not for the lack of challenge but for the amount of bugs in what few missions we have *cough* Tarsen not dying in Heir we go again *cough*
Any way this morning, aside from the PvP match here and there, Ive been doing the empire defence missions, against Federation spies and Romulan ships, and days before that Ive been doing nebula explorations,
The loot I get is as follows: Battery, Component, Component, Battery, Component, Battery, Battery, oh and another batterery for good measure
I have a Red matter capacitor which shares cool down with the batteries, so thats them ruled out of usefulness as by the time the batteries are ready the RMC is off cool down
The component, well seeing as how I dont play on advanced or Elite then theres no point for me to be getting them
But wait Genex, you can sell them on the Exchange I hear you type, I could but currency in STO is so worthless, theres no real value to energy credits so theres no sense of an economy
As our missions wield little to no reward could we at least get some better drops?
What are you using your PvP badges for? When leveling my KDF, I had all of the equipment I needed in my tier less than halfway through the rank. The complaint back then was that the badge vendors didn't offer comparable components or the vendors were completely broken (two console vendors instead of a ship equipment vendor and console vendor). Eventually that was all hashed out so you could get everything you needed just from PvP. There wasn't any PvE to speak of and each nebula was scaled to the lowest rank/grade for that destination.
You should have plenty of exploration badges and/or PVP medals to buy stuff from the vendors. That is what those are for, so you can do strictly PVP with no drops or lousy drops in PVE and still upgrade all your equipment.
You can also buy and sell on the exchange. If you think energy credits are so worthless, take a look at the exchange again, because that is where energy credits are useful. Buy yourself white equipment and you can resell it once you level out of it.
Speaking of loot, I've been playing my fed a bit more lately and I've gotten a few things while PvPing. I have yet to see anything drop on the Klink side during a PvP match. Am I just that unlucky or am I seeing thigns? Do Klinks get drops in PvP like the Feds do? lol.

Drops come from NPCs only. That means fleet support and photonic fleet, or even carrier pets. Kill them and you might get drops. Kill only players and you won't see any drops.
Excuse me, yep, I'm confused, lol. I'm pretty sure Feds can by all the even-mark items they want at Earth Space Dock where they acquire new ships. Or am I mistaken yet again? >_<
You can trade exploration badges in the shipyard for green, even numbered gear, but you can't buy it for energy credits. The gear sold for energy credits at ESD are odd level and white in rarity. You can trade exploration badges in the Klingon shipyard for green even numbered gear, but there are also merchants in the Klink shipyard that sell white even and odd level items, along with batteries.
But if you want items to drop in the missions, you are going to have to step up to a higher difficulty. I see a lot more items, especially greens and blues by playing on Elite. I even looted a purple mk6 armor the other day. You can also check the exchange for gear and spend some of those energy credits that are weighing down your pockets.
Get one character a rank above the other, and you can just keep handing down any unbound gear to the next one and save some money that way.
Your first character is the hardest one to work up, after that you have so much EC sitting around and nothing to buy with it, that you can bankroll your alts. Whenever one of mine hits a new grade, I max them out on gear for their level
I'm finding myself in an odd situation that I'm wondering is as intended by the game.
I have an admiral fed alt, who's more or less gone through the memory alpha chain. As such, he can craft blues that far exceed mostly whatever I can pick up on my KDF lt commander side of the game. On KDF By sheer force of necessity, just to earn skillpoints to level you end up grinding nebulas over and over, so he's got alot of badges to buy the green stuff back at home, which I suppose is useful for alot of the consoles, but yeah, in general, because we have less story-pve options that offer loot like on the federation side.
Note, that in some cases Feds can buy even mark gear, its not universal, but there's quite a bit available at memory alpha.

I am actually not sure that photonic fleet drops anything. Fleet support might. Carrier pets definitely do.

Yeah I've been having my Fed charcter send stuff to Email and having the Klingon character collect it.
