Klingon sound effects

One of the problems with the Klingon faction is that alot of their sound effects and stuff are reused Federation effects thus detracting from the more aggressive Klingon feel. From the tricorder, to the impulse and warp sound effects. Luckily Klingons got a new transporter effect a while back, but I think it needs to be a little more orange like it was in the series but the sound effect itself is spot on. So, some of the remaining effects that need to be replaced are:

Klingon warp effect. (both sound and visual need overhaul for both factions IMO, take inspiration from ST Legacy sound effect and DS9 sound effect)

Tricorder, Klingons still use the Fed tricorder I think its time Cryptic took the time to make klingons their own tricorder and sound effect.

full impulse sound effect needs to be redone for Klingons.

I wouldnt mind Disruptor cannons getting more of a DS9 sound effect either, I really dont like the current disruptor sounds in game for some reason.

Well, the sound guy for STO has to spend his time doing something...right? ;)

I tried to find some samples of sound effects on youtube but couldnt find anything decent and worth posting.

I'm a bit torn on threads like this. On the one hand this is all stuff that has been gone over and over again, and the Dev's are well aware of these problems. Cryptic is short on staff and fully realizes the depth of the task before them to truely flesh out the KDF side. They also have a healthy idea of what they will need to do to a third faction before releasing it to avoid a full on revolt from the player base.

On the other hand I can't support threads like this enough. It annoys me to love playing a KDF character, but always get reminded by the game itself that the core of the experince is a simple copy and paste from the Feds. A non sound example that bugs me often is my Engi away teams summon phaser turrets, when Klingon NPC's you fight clearly can summon disruptor turrets.

at 1:24 in above video, see....there is an audio guy on the STO team...whos job is solely audio. I wish he would come here and at least acknowledge that these are being worked on or are on some kind of to do list. We arent hiding pitchforks and toches behind us (well, most of us arent lol) , I wish he would interact with the community a little more than the silence we have now. Hell, im sure alot of players would be thankful for a new quantum torpedo sound effect, something with more punch and less of a TRIBBLE sound...quantums are the most used torpedo so there is enough a reason to change it.

I'm just happy we no longer have the Fed computer voice... We'd been asking for that since Klinks got introduced in Beta if I recall.

It sounds like the KDF one from Starfleet command.

Yeah, instead we got a Borg assimilated Klingon voice, not much of an improvement IMO.

Touche sadly all Klingon voices in STO are pretty lame, even the BO, voice overs they had in beta were not exactly right if I recall.

To me, the one Klingon Sound Effect that drive me the most crazy is the Sliding Doors with the ship's interior.

It doesn't sound like the clanky, mechanical Klingon door sounds you heard on TV.

    Totally ditto!

I mean, when they got the license for ST, didn't they also get license/access to all of the audio/sfx assets? How hard is it to get them to cut/paste? If I had a decent .hogg file editor, I'd do it myself for personal enjoyment.

Perhaps if they took the time to study instead of just watching the Star Trek episodes....

Well, seeing as how their sound team has their plate full. (their sound team works on all their games and not just STO so they are probably gonna have their hands full with the new Neverwinter thing) we probably wont see this fixed for a while...shame shame.

It would be cool to have the iconic Klingon attack music.

They probably won't get the liscense from Cryptic...What I have been doing though is playing that classic music when I play against the feds...It helps me focus on those feds a bit better....The current music just is reused battle music...yes, it blows....

There is a youtube video that has the whole frakkin song on it...but the quality is poor. I took an old Star Trek TMP LP (LP for those young bucks is a record at 33 1/3, not a 45). On there is/was a track called Klingon Battle by Jerry Goldsmith. I took that and used my music software to take and convert it to digital form...
I don't care it if it wrong to do, but meh...I did it anyway...lol

Heh, if no one pays attention, I'm sure they could just rip off the Klingon sounds from the various Starfleet Command games :)

The problem is someone always rats on anybody that does something wrong...it reminds me of what little children do...lol..

A change in music is welcomed though to tell you the truth...Maybe employ Jeremy Soule???

yea most of the weapon sound effects are generic.. non canon....the ONLY weapon sounds in game that do not need changed are phasers and photon torpedos.. i suppose tricobalt can stay too... its okay, but not perfect. the rest, however, need redone to match canon...

and yes.. please do something about klingon tricorders..

hey glad i found this thread

when i play my klingon character i am partial to using disruptor and photon based weapons, to stay in line with the shows...and i absolutely HATE the current disruptor sounds...it sounds like a failing drum bang then it does an authentic klingon disruptor cannon sound

I did a google search and quickly found this page

    http://www.trekcore.com/audio/

It has all sorts of iconic sounds (guessing sound bytes from the shows)

Specifically this disruptor sound needs to be applied to the klingon disruptor weapon
    http://www.trekcore.com/audio/weapons/tng_disruptor_clean.wav

Lots of other goodies there too...if some guys webpage can get the right audio, why cant a fully licensed game get it?

Would really love some feedback from Audio guys/devs on this one...im guessing updating a sound file cant be too difficult, and im sure that team has access to a large resource library to get the right sounds!

On that same note, pulse phaser sound should be in the game, possibly for the heavy phaser cannon (or perhaps its own unique weapon for defiant class?) right now it sounds awful too! Another quick google search found this:

    http://geneva.ships.acalltoduty.com/sounds/phasers.wav

Hopefully in the spirit of Polish-First that the Devs have been saying, the audio wont get left out, especialy for these iconic weapons!

    :D

Yeah, the old disruptors sounded much much better. On the topic, im going to keep asking for a Klingon warp out/in sound effect unique to the faction and a special rumbling, engine sound for Klingon ships when you zoom in close enough.
